Doctor Can Stakes

(SP)Wyoming- The Sister Independent Stakes is in the books and it lived up to the naming. It was a nice race but nothing to write home about and the speeds were reminiscent of allowance racing, just like the stakes non-winner it was named for. As a matter of fact there was even a claiming race with better speeds, not to mention a couple of better actual allowance races. Not to take anything away from the young ladies who ran last Saturday, as they gave their best under the circumstances. All in all is was a pretty mundane event with all three places unchallenged. The Irish filly Funky Dixieland(IRE) showed the extra distance was not a factor as she cruised to an easy two length win. Lamentations jumped out to the early lead as expected but was not able to maintain her pace and faded to place. The Irish filly Leader Of The Pack(IRE) had a lack luster day and only able to show another two lengths back.

Up this week is the $60,000 Doctor Can Stakes also named for another weak retired mare. At least this one had a stakes win among her four wins, all of which came at two. She did manage to be in the money on another seven runs but in all an unimpressive career. It has left WHOA shaking their collective heads again knowing they will get no response from the WRC. Anyway, it is a six and a half furlong sprint on the turf for four years or older mares. Here is the small field of the competing women,

Abigail entered by kobras4. This lady by Strike The Gold out of the mare Italy Rat comes in looking for her first turf stakes win. She has shown a strong liking for the dirt and has run well there winning at stakes level. She has been running on the grass for a few races now and not done well at all, although she has an allowance win. She will try once again to find a handle on the grass.

Nighthawk Lust entered by 4nighthawk. This lady by Cryptoclearance comes in off a stakes win last time out. She is a horse that has been on the grass only five times in her career, but still has two stakes wins and never been off the board. She is even rated 73rd on the grass in her age group. She is a front runner and will most likely be there at the end of the race.

Storming Tate entered by bigtate2. This lady by Crowning Storm comes into the race with a slight edge running on the grass as opposed to the dirt. She has only three wins in her 23 runs and those came at the beginning of her career. This is her first time in Wyoming and it appears like the altitude may prove a hindrance like it did for her in Colorado. Will need a good break from the gates for any kind of a chance here.

Allie It‘s A Girl entered by arning. This lightly run chestnut by Storm Cat comes in as the favorite. She seems to have attained this distinction solely on the name of her sire. She was once on the grass and ran poorly coming in third in a four horse field. She is a much stronger runner on the dirt but seems to have a stamina problem this year. Maybe that is why she has been moved to the turf for this run. She will probably try to dominate from the front.

Charity entered by jaytrotter. This grand dame is a chestnut sired by Miesque’s Son. She comes into the race still running strongly on her old legs, only off the board ten times in her 51 races. She is a front runner and likes to sit on the shoulder of the leader before making her move for the lead. Her speeds are still competitive so expect to see her near the front at the end of the race.

French Kiss II(GB) entered by ebbe. This British dame is sired by Sharpela. She comes into this race off a $35,000 claimer, but has been struggling lately. The trainer is hoping the claim run is a wake up call to the old lady. She likes to close on the leaders and will probably use this on Saturday. There are rumors floating around the stables saying she is headed for auction if she doesn’t perform well here.
