Seven Fillies To Contest Ninth Con Special

A field of seven 3yo fillies are entered to run in this week’s Ninth Con Special. The race will be run at 6.5 furlongs on the dirt course for a purse of $70,000. Let’s take a look at the runners.

In post one at 9/1 is Scotian Tiff(Saf) owned by dougiec4. She is by National Emblem(Saf) and out of a Proud Truth mare. She has a record of one win and four thirds in five career starts. She ran third in two stakes races leading up to today’s race. She ran her top speed figure of 78 last time out in France, and has never been more than 2-1/4 lengths back at the finish. T. Ranger will be riding.

In post two at 3/1 is V’s High owned by fusion. She is by High Yield out of a Gone West mare. Switched to dirt after an unsuccessful debut on turf, this filly has one win and two seconds in three starts on the surface. She last ran second in a stakes in Hong Kong with an 85 speed figure. This is the first time she will start on dirt in a post position other than on the rail. L. Montgomery is in the saddle.

In post three at 2/1 is Literal Connection owned by blueangels. She is by Storm Creek out of a Captain Steve mare. She was claimed by her current owner for $50K, and has proved to be quite a bargain, racking up one win, two seconds, and two fourths for her new trainer, all in stakes competition. She ran second in her 3yo debut in Maine, running an 89 speed figure. With Z. Kentucky in the leathers, she looks like the one to beat.

In post four at 20/1 is Guesss owned by albarace1. She is by Full Mandate out of a Prince Tenderfoot mare. Don’t ignore her simply because of her long odds. They have a lot to do with two terrible outings on turf, one in which she likely was injured. Her record on dirt, however, is one win and one third in two starts, winning a maiden in Germany and running third in a stakes in Italy. Her top speed figure to date is a 75, and N. Schreiber is riding her.

In post five at 2/1 is Indian Whiskey owned by quietgrind. She is by Indian Charlie out of a Cure The Blues mare. She is coming off of two consecutive stakes wins, has one other stakes win to her credit, and placed third in the G3 Little Momma Debutante. She is ranked #44 in the 3yo filly dirt sprint division. She ran her top speed figure last time out, an 87. C. Rice takes the reins.

In post six at 6/1 is local Ireland filly Pierce(Ire) owned by muckross. She is by Hawkeye(Ire) out of a Mining mare. She failed to fire last time out, but she has two wins, two seconds, and a third in seven career starts, including a stakes victory. She ran her top speed figure of 77 right here in Ireland, and has a very good jockey in A. Reed.

Rounding out the field at 8/1 is Phoo Phoo owned by svdstables. She is by Dream Run out of a Century(Aus) mare. She has won two of her three career starts, finishing third in her debut. Her two wins were both an 81 speed figure and were both in Norway. She will be out to prove today that she is not just a horse for a course and can run as well outside of the land of Hamlet. D. Doyle is her jockey.

That is our field. V’s High, Literal Connection and Indian Whiskey stand out on basis of their high speed figures, but if any other filly in here gets a huge jump in their figure such as Indian Whiskey did last time out, anything could happen. Pierce(Ire) has the advantage of a top jockey, and Phoo Phoo won so easily in her races that we not have seen her best effort yet. Guesss consistently runs better than her odds on dirt, and Scotian Tiff(Saf) has not finished off the board yet. I guess the best way to figure out who will win, is to watch the race. Good luck to all the runners and may they all come home sound.
