Big Race Preview 2741
Only one grade I race this week and it looks to be a pretty good watch. So with only one grade I this week I will quick hit all the grade II races in a week that could prove to be a coming out party for several runners.
Race:
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 4 years old and up
Distance: One mile on the Dirt
On the surface this appears to be a two horse race between Unprecedented and Bfiftytwo. Unprecedented has a very good record in dirt miles and has done it at the top level. He has a win and two on the board finishes in his last three races all in grade I dirt miles. Go back a little further and you see this guy is pretty good at a mile and an eighth as well. Unprecedented comes from off the pace and often times is near the back of the field.
Bfiftytwo flip flopped in his three year old season running some routes and running some sprints but has seemed to have found a groove at a mile. His last two races have been in listed stakes but he won both with very fast speed figures. Bfiftytwo has been going to the front in his last couple of races so look for him out on the lead in this race.
Danzig With Sal is not in the best of form now but he must be respected. He is a grade I winner at this distance and has placed in multiple graded races at this distance. He is plenty capable of running fast enough to win this and even though he is five years old he is lightly raced. Kingpin Jacob has been sprinting mostly and will step out a mile for the first time in a while. He has been running in long sprints and has put up some nice speed figures but still needs to prove he belongs at this level.
There are a couple of decent long shots here. Campaniling is a bargain bred (Toddsy check out the Bargain Bred Racing Series) that just cleared his 4x allowance condition. He is in great form right now and maybe he has one more big run in him to cap the streak off. Alyrush is a newly turned four year old that has exploded in his last two races. Oddly enough he did not win either race however the speed figures could put him right in the thick of things in this race.
Race: 2741.5215 Disco Inferno Stakes – Grade II – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 4 years old and up
Distance: A mile and three eighths on the Dirt
This race is wide open if the favorite does not run her best. Donner is the favorite and has a clear edge in class being a multiple graded winner including a
N. Portman has won four of her last five all at longer distances. Her speed figures are not quite as good as the favorites but she is on a roll. Xtremely Awesome is an excellent betting choice at 11/1. She has the speed figures to compete and has been competitive at this level. The rest of the field is very similar. They all seem capable of winning with a little improvement running speed figures in the mid 90’s at or near this distance. It should be an interesting race.
Race: 2741.5715 Everclear Handicap – Grade II – $250,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 4 years old and up
Distance: Five and one half furlongs on the Turf
With four horses sharing favoritism at 6/1 it makes one think this think might be wide open. Digital Overture may be the better of the co favorites. He is speedy and has finished first or second in twelve of fifteen lifetime starts. In all of last year he only finished off the board once and that was a fourth place finish.
Tete Not Galileo (IRE) had a very good run of second place finishes in graded races. Last time out he never got going but should probably turn it around here today. Gold Inferno has two of his last three in listed company but has run some fast speed figures. Tiger Nation (IRE) is the last co favorite who has a couple of recent wins and was third in a grade I last time out. One of these four if not all four should show up today.
Race: 2741.0115 San Valenzuala Breeders Bowl Stakes – Grade II – $250,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 4 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one sixteenth on the Dirt
No real big names here but a couple of older more traveled horses are favorites. High Raiser is older but in pretty good form but is not a stakes winner. His only wins have come in allowances but he has placed in stakes many times. This level at race thirty-eight in his career could be one of his last chances at a stakes win.
High Otto is a thirty race veteran. He won a grade I and a grade II as a three year old but that was a long time ago. He was pretty competitive at the stakes level last year as a four year old finishing the year up is good fashion. He looks solid for his five year old debut. Stereotypical Cat is a grade III winner in solid form. Throw out that last race at a distance that was too far.
Sissonhill is probably the most likely winner here. First or second in ten of thirteen starts, he has very good speed figures and is cutting back in distance. He stretched out in his last two and ran well now he cuts back to a distance that may be more in his wheel house so expect a big performance, maybe a break through type run that vaults this guy to the next level.
Race: 2741.2915 Yanta Snez Stakes – Grade II – $225,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old
Distance: Seven furlongs on the Dirt
With a grade I last week in this very same division I think as a whole having a grade II this week has thinned out the fields of both races which is a bit of a shame. A race like this will often times be a stepping stone for a runner that is looking to route racing in the future. Not this race it seems to be full of pure sprinters. Smokin Lois is the favorite. She finished third last time out in a grade I and had a grade II win early as a two year old. Solid little sprinting filly who seems to have the class edge.
Shovelhead (AUS) has won two listed stakes in a row in front running fashion and that puts her right in the thick of things here. Groomed To Romp T has been in routes recently not have a lot of success but has placed in a grade I. Maybe the cut back in distance will do her good. I’ve Met Barb is a grade I performer who could use this as a stepping stone back to route racing. She seems to run better on the pace so if she flashes speed look for her to hold that speed.
Race: 2741.6916 Hello Goodbye Stakes – Grade II – $250,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old
Distance: A mile and one eighth on the Dirt
Three year old fillies are stepping out and Zytown leads the way. A winner of six of eight starts Zytown has put together back to back graded route wins in her last two. You have to worry about that last race 98 speed figure. In recent weeks we have scene runners coming off big speed figures fall flat in their next race. Her come from behind style might not be the best thing if someone really pushes the pace in this race.
Breeder’s Bowl Filly Juvy winner Pro Dubai makes her three year old debut here. She faltered last time out in the Movieland Starlet and will be coming in off a little layoff. Getting a mile and an eighth off a little rest might be tough not to mention she may be encountering the distance limits of her pedigree. Still she may be ready for another improvement in speed figure. Whip Smart is a grade II winner and just missed another grade II last time out. She too took a small break before this race but she seems better suited for the distance than Pro Dubai.
