He’s A Gay Devil Special
(SP)Wyoming- The Glen Code Special is in the books and it was a very exciting race for all. There was not many surprises in the race but a photo finish is a nice way to make a race memorable. The pace setter Touch And Stop broke from the gate in first and never looked back cruising to what should have been an easy win. At one point the was ten lengths out in front of everyone. On the back stretch he started to tire and the outstanding closing effort by Galapagos was almost his undoing. As it was, the two horses came under the wire at the same time and it took a photo finish to determine Touch and Stop had won by less than a nose. Especially started his run for the front about the same time as Galapagos, but could not maintain the blistering pace. In the end he had to settle for a show six lengths back.
Once again the WRC has come up with an unpopular stakes name and has WHOA breathing down there backs. WHOA has been trying for years to get better and more regional named stakes races, but to no avail. It is a situation that will probably take a long time before the parties can reach some sort of agreement. In any case up this week a the seven and a half furlong jaunt on the turf. It is the $50,000 He’s A Gay Devil Special for horse four and up. A solid field of ten have entered, so let’s take a look at our entrants.
Carsfly Well entered by brundlefly. This pace setting horse comes into the race with a strong liking for the classic distances. He is no stranger to the winners circle and has several stakes wins, but he has been having a little problem with stamina of late and dropping a little distance could help with this.
Mirror Image entered by isittrue. This elder chestnut colt exploded when he was moved to the grass showing this is where he should be and started out strong with several wins. He is a natural closer that seems to have forgotten how to effectively use this style if his last few races are any indication. He needs a strong showing this weekend.
In The Evening entered by duke. This elder colt as eased over the $1M dollars earned an not been in the money only twice in his 22 races. He performs well on both surfaces, but is more of a short sprinter. His last few races have not been up to his usual standard and going at seven and a half furlongs could not help his confidence much.
Fusaichi Magpie entered by punter59. This horse comes in as one of the odds on favorite without even being close to a win in his last several races. He likes to close on the field and can be very effective twice winning three races in a row. Needs to return to form if he wants to be anywhere near the front.
Crescent Lake entered by bigskyfarm. This light gray pace setter comes into the race looking for his first win at stakes level. He has done well at allowance level but has been struggling when he steps up to stakes. The ability is there, but maybe it is one of those horses that likes the allowance level.
Blazing Sevens entered by braylee. This elder statesman is still going strong and comes in as the other odds on favorite. After spending some time on the dirt he has come back to the grass where it is softer for his old legs and in so doing has lengthened out his career some. He is a stalker and will have the hot jockey Jesse Sands in the irons.
Sing Phyl Sing(GB) entered by sam. This closer comes into the race probably more of a router than a sprinter. Even if this is a longer sprint his closing style shows he needs more room to work with. He has shown in his past few races that the turf is where he belongs.
Smart Canadian entered by chasitey72. This chestnut elder statesman has seen better days and should be put to pasture. His recent speed output in a claimer is not a good indication of what he is capable of any more. Claimers is the best place for him right now.
Regent Emblem entered by gowand4. This elder chestnut horse comes into the race a very consistent performer but unlucky at stakes level. This will be his 17th attempt and is still looking for that elusive win. He has a couple of seconds but otherwise a bunch of forgotten runs. He will try to chase down the leaders like most of his races.
Mine All Mine entered by nemifarms. This elder colt enters into his second stakes race. He has been slowly getting better with each race, but still has a slight problem with consistency. He drops back to the range where he is most comfortable and will try to close on the field like so many others in this race.
