Four For Florida

Four For Florida

Florida – It must have been rumors of a hurricane or maybe a tornado that kept trainers away from the entry box on Wednesday.  Neither tornado nor hurricane came to pass and the racing secretary was left with only four brave souls in the mile and 3/16 Wavering Screen.  Written for fillies and mares three and up, the Wavering Screen carries a purse of $95,000, will be run over the grass, and was named after an own daughter of Woodman who managed only one win – but it was a stakes race.  She is the dam of two foals to race – one winner.

The heavy favorite on Saturday will be the big brown 6YO daughter of Unbridled, Flawless Tribute (4/5).  Owned and trained by Cragwood, she is ranked in the top 100 in the turf classic division.  She has a lovely form and has won 10 of 25 starts.  Her worse finish in her last eight starts was a third and that was last time out in the Red Whitey which was just too short for her.  She is back at a distance she loves on Saturday and will be hard to beat.

Affirmed Thief (9/5) is a muscular, dark bay, 4 YO daughter of Cat Thief and she is conditioned by Pazthree.  Her last win was six back and she has done most of her racing on the other side of the ocean.    She was shipped to the USA and has not shown that she cares for the climate, finishing 4th and 6th in her only two starts.

Breaking from post three will be R Two Dee Two (7/2) a lovely dark grey mare by Skywalker.  She has 17 wins from 55 starts and trainer Betdahouse feels that she is still capable of turning in a big one.  She finished second in the Easy Fighter after leading to the stretch and it seems that she might enjoy a shorter distance in her senior years.

Buda At The Ballet (5/1) is another that looks on paper to want less distance.  The 4 YO bright bay filly with black points is by Danzig and Juju will be legging the rider up.  Her last win was some time ago but she did finish third in the Grade I Yolkshire Oaks at 10 furlongs.  She will find this field much easier and you always have to respect one on the drop.
