CANADIAN JEWEL

G McMurtry

8/1

3yo filly sired by Grand Jewel who is the son of Java Gold.  She was claimed in her 1st race out this year when she was dropped into a mdclm 3500.  She than won a 5000 clmr for her new owner and proceeded to hit the starter allowance trail.  She managed to win one of those at 14f. in a short field with an SP44, which by any standard is slow.  After that race her SP’s began to improve to the point that she has managed a 3rd place finish in her last race, which happens to be an allowance one mile event!  She led into the stretch, and weakened, but still managed a SP92.  Her jockey leaves something to be desired, and the extra 1/8th mile may be a tad too long at this point in her maturity to compete with the horses on the outside.

3yo filly sired by Karen’s Cat, a son of Storm Cat.  The trainer was fortunate not to have her claimed when she started her short career in mdclming events.  She broke her maiden in a MSW when she started to show signs of life.  After that she cashed a couple of minor checks in starter allowance races and her SP’s improved.  Her last effort can be throw out, as it was on the slop and she couldn’t get her footing.  She has a decent jock and the distance is attainable, but again as with young horses she may have to mature a bit more to compete with some of these.  She may have some late kick for a minor check.

3yo filly sired by Defensive Play, son of Fappiano.  Her D and DD sires have some class.  She has yet to show her true colors due to lack of maturity.  She will probably improve as a 4yo.  Her last two outs show that she is not ready for this.

3yo filly by Maze Craze, son of Storm Bird.  She’s been in three different barns since her initial victory 1st time out.  She than ran in starters for a while, picking up minor checks.  After her tag ran out she was then raced in a few 10-15000 claimers, where her present owner picked her up to race in the Bargain Oaks.  She finished a credible 5th in that, in a twenty horse field running a mile.  The distance in today’s race is within her capability, but her SP’s would need to improve.

4yo filly by Bellvoy, son of London Bells.  She is the favorite in this, and with good reason.  Her SP’s are consistent 90+’s, and she closed a ton in her 9f try two back.  The only minor knock is, she hasn’t won past 8.5f in which she broke her maiden.  That could easily change here as she will be in a claiming event(sort of) for the first time in her career.  With her present form, I expect her to be flying at the end, if she duplicates her last win.

4yo filly by Stadler, son of Sadler’s Wells.  This gal already has 100+ thousand in the bank and can run forever.  She has won from 7f to 13f, and visited the claiming ranks for a period of time.  For some reason, she was placed in the auction and purchased by her present owner.  A great buy, as distance females are hard to come by.  Even though her last race was dull, she will be a formidable foe if she can get it in gear early enough.

DelPenn based, this 4yo filly is sired by Sunny’s Halo, a son of Halo.  She has been around the block a few times with this being her 38th race.  Not being able to win in MSW’s, she finally broke her maiden in a 4000 claimer.  She ran a few claimers before being picked up by her present owner.  Since then, she has won 5 times and has been very competitive in allowance fields.  This distance suits to a tee.  Her style is to come from off the pace, but tried for the lead in her last.  She appears to be honed well for this and should be at the wire for a photo.

Lightly raced 4yo filly by Emmson, a son of Ela-Mana-Mou.  This gal already has 100+ thousand in the bank, with only 18 races.  She has never run less than 10f. which is an oddity in itself.  Her wins have been at 12-13f., with placings in stakes events.  She has speed at those distances, and probably will stalk here.  With her stamina she will be tough come stretch time.  She certainly rates her 5/2 status.
