Spotlighting: High Demand Claimers

This is a new type of segment for the BTB and my hope is that it helps the newbies to the game.   In this article, I’m featuring the horses that have the most action in the claim box during the week.  Generally, I’m focused on horses with 10 or more claims, but my breech a bit lower as I did this first week setting the threshold at 9.  I do apologize for any I may have missed in advance.   My intent is to try to give readers and newbies some insight as to why trainers were after the horse that was claimed.  Basically answering the question…What did so many people see in this one that I may have missed?

This week, most activity was with the low end claimers.  Not much surprise there as they are very affordable and don’t require a huge outlay of BP’s (Breeding Points).

6/11   Blaming  $3,500  claimed by Riverclaimers   18 claims

The week’s high of 18 bidders for this colt out of Blame has tailed off from speeds of 100 early this year in allowance company.  He dropped from $50k claimers to $3.5 this week and finished second with a strong finish.  Dirt runner has ability to be earner for new trainer and looks to prefer the wet track over the dry.

6/12  Robust Reply  $2,000 claimed by Antisuper  9 claims

Horse that is sired by Eddington has been racing in claimers for quite some time and just got snagged with a drop to the dirt cheap level.   Just missed this week in a photo for the top spot and has been on board about 2/3rds of the time.  Godd BP earner.

6/13  Betica   $2,000  claimed by Bellissimo  11 claims

One of two highly sought mares in the same race.  Betica was claimed solely for breeding purposes immediately following her 2nd place finish this week. The blood line of Green Desert x Cat Thief was appealing and Mrs Venezuela is the offspring, which was sired by Fighting Brave.

6/13  Silver El Prospect  $2,000 claimed by Ebucher   16 claims

This is the other highly desired horse claimed in same race with above mentioned Betica.   And, for the same purpose.   After winning her 7th career race, she was immediately retired and was used to breed Sunny Sez Pr.  Silver El Prospect’s bloodline of Silver Charm x El Prado was used with Ordway as the sire to the new bred.

6/15  Dippy Doubt   $2,000  claimed by Quilly4   10 claims

After being off the board for 8 races, this mare was dropped drastically from allowance to the dirt cheap claimers.   The grass runner finished 2nd and the bloodline of Redoute’s Choice x Galileo drew a lot of trainers to the claiming box.  Expect this one to be retired in near future.

6/15  Dylan IX Chel  $2,000 claimed by Redhill2   11 claims

This gal was in same race with Dippy Doubt and had slightly more interest from trainers.   She won her second in a row and has won 4 of her last 6 starts.   She had easy win after drop from $30k where she hit speed of 94.  This weekends race was an unispiring 81 and winning by 3.  Tells me she still has some wins in her.   Dylan Thomas x Montjeu bloodline is favorable to breeding.  May see her in some starter races before retirement to squeeze out a few more bps.

6/15  Olson  $7,500  claimed by Duncan06   16 claims

This 6 year old mare is now with her 6th owner.    She’s out of the Midnight Lute x Moutain Cat pedigree.    She has won two in a row and three of her last four.   She’s a good bp earner, winning 15 of 34 races and is capable of running speeds in the 100 neighborhood.  Looks to be a good acquisition.

6/15  Slew Au Jeu   $45,0000  claimed by Wispa2   10 claims

9-year old mare who has been sidelined for quite some time.  In 2011 she had one start at the end of the season.  This weekends race was the first start for her since that time.  A solid blood line of Montjeu x Seattle Slew is definitely the attraction here and I would expect that this lady will be used for breeding in near future.

6/16  Three Finger Hobb  $3,500   claimed by Whiteriverfarm1   12 claims

A four year colt out of the respectful Fusaichi Pegasus x Dynaformer lineage has moved onto his eighth trainer.   This one hasn’t fared well, 8 out of 20 on the board careerwise, but is coming to life as he’s been on board 5 of last 6.  He’s raced once on the grass and may well be worth another shot there with the Dynaformer in the blood.

6/16  Welcome To Costco   $2,500  claimed by Asr13   11 claims

Another frequent barn mover is now on to his eighth trainer and the fourth one this year.  It’s easy to see why this Noonmark x El Prado bred horse is popular in the claim box.  He’s 4-1-2 in eight races this year, a storng BP earner.  Speeds in the 90 range keep him as a good claim/starter runner.
