Field Of 14 Fillies Takes On lool Oaks
lool Oaks
Grade I / Group 1 – Purse : $500,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds, Fillies Only
8.5 Furlongs | ~1700 Meters | One Mile and One Sixteenths
The field of this Saturdays lool Oaks contains fillies that are seasoned and accomplished, along with some looking to prove themselves in their first
Graded race starts. It looks to be an absolutely beautiful day in Kentucky, and the weather will not be an issue as the fillies take to the fast dirt track.
This race should be an exciting spectical and will crown one filly with a shot at the Bluegrass Oaks in May, but the winner here will have to show heart
and courage with a full field of 14 entered. Perhaps even more than one will earn the chance if they can impress their respective trainers and perform
well enough to qualify, it looks to be a true test of readiness for these young fillies and the spotlight awaits as they race to become part of the Sim history
on Saturday.
Lets have a look at our entries….
#1 EDNA KAY-
Tapit x Fourty Niner x Deputy Minister(Can)
This scratch bred daughter of Tapit has never finished worse than second in her five lifetime starts, and this filly looks to be peaking at the perfect time.
She’s in the more the capable hands of trainer/masterm and hes prepared this filly perfectly for this race, shes increased her speed and distance with every
start, working through allowance conditions then landing in the G3 SilverBulletBeer which was her last outting. At 8.5 furlongs it was a nice gauge of the
fillies stamina and she collected her first Graded win. She broke strongly and briefly held the lead but settled back and happily stalked in second for jockey
W. Cahill along the rail, she passed the leader Fine Specimen in the second turn and went on to win easily never being truly challenged again in the stretch.
This performance surely convinced her connections that shes ready for an even bigger step up, she fits perfect here and who wouldnt love to have this filly
in their own barn? She goes off at 10 to 1, but I think the rail post postion is an advantage for her and if the early speed fizzles ahead of her she’ll be sitting
in a spot to strike.
#2 POINT OF LIFE-
Point Given x Pleasantly Perfect x Storm Cat
This deep brown daughter of Point Given out of the mare Switchblade has run extremely well of late, with her last two starts resulting in wins in which she
finished with enough of a lead that her first try at the mile and a sixteenth shouldnt be an issue. Her finish in the Granny Exalted Dirt Mile, her latest start,
found her 3 3/4 lengths ahead at the wire as she opened nicely through the stretch for the win. Some of her speeds may not be the fastest but she wins with
ease when she gets to run her race, take away the clunker three starts back and shes never failed to hit the tote board which indeed makes her betting fans
very happy. She’ll go off at odds of 10 to 1 here for trainer/dochman2 with jockey V. Webb up for the mount. This Kentucky bred filly should feel right at
home on Saturday, she’ll need her best effort here as she also steps up for her first Graded try.
#3 KING OF STUPID-
Dynaformer x Fourty Niner x Seattle Slew
Trainer/redhills filly out of the mare Mama Fourty is no stranger to GI racing and tough compatition, she spent her 2yr old career winning the Frickazee and
the Movieland Starlet but had a bad run in the Breeder Bowl Juv Filly with an uncharateristic poor finish, never seeming to find her stride. But lets focus on
her 3yr old starts now, she ran a strong race in the G1 Vermont Is 4 Lovers but couldnt quite hold on and faded abit in the final drive and ran fourth there. She
still ran a 101 speed figure and she loves to be challenged late in her best finishes, which could well happen here. Trainer/redhill switched her to a turf surface
in her last start taking a shot at the G3 Kewney in Victoria but the filly was either just out for a jaunt or didnt care for the surface as she only managed a 7th
place finish in the field of 14. This trainer knows exactly what hes doing and Im not about to underestimate his fillies chances here. Shes looking to score her
5th lifetime win in what will be nine starts. Her odds on race day are 8 to 1 and shes the richest gal of the bunch with earnings of $620,520 and she could add
another large chunk to it with a win here. Can you say ka-ching!
#4 ELUSIVE STYLE-
Elusive Quality x Storm Cat x Unbridled’s Song
Heres another filly whos trainer/tazdevil has been to the bank many times thanks to his fillies efforts, with a excellent run in her last start as a 2yr old this
one just missed with a closing effort in the G1 Movieland Starlet against rival King Of Stupid to finish second. She comes in here fresh with only one prior
start at 3 in the G1 Vermont Is 4 Lovers in which she ran an impressive 105 and narrowly missed again to finish second behind Barbstone in Febuary. This
filly loves to close hard and with four lifetime wins in eight starts she definetly knows how to do it. She looks to be right there in the stretch among the other
closers and jockey G. De should keep her well in range to strike, although with her speed she could well stay closer up to the pace and run more of a stalker
type style. Odds makers place her at 7 to 1 on race day.
#5 SHIZZLE STREET-
Street Sense x Bernardini x Seeking The Gold
This filly out of the mare Bandiera has come around in the beginning of her 3yr old career, shes seeking her first win in a G1 here, a big step up but with im-
proving efforts and speed figures she may surprise with a game appearance here. In her two starts of the year thus far she won a allowance with a rather
light field but her second place finish in the G3 SliverBulletBeer behind Edna Kay proves she can handle the distance and shes run in larger fields already
at 2 so she can handle the traffic as well. She might not be as seasoned as some others here but trainer/shizzle40 must feel shes capable of a strong outting
and could bring home a trophy and her biggest payday yet. She goes off at 12 to 1 and scores a great jockey in W. Cahill up for the mount.
#6 KASH ON TAP-
Admire Moon(Jap) x Tapit x Tale Of The Cat
Trainer/kashbarns filly out of mare Attip has Graded race experience, but has yet to bring home a win, although shes scored two seconds in G3’s at 2, breaking
the 100 speed mark as a 2yr old as well. Also her two starts at 3 include a third in the 8f Babes Sheep Dirt Mile Stakes and a very respective third in the G1
California Oaks in her last outting, but shes due for a win and with some luck it could happen here. This filly has shown some speed but shes got tough com-
patition here and its going to take a return to her top efforts to outgun them Saturday. Her odds are 6 to 1 reflecting her ablility to capture the prize.
#7 SEEKING VOODOO-
Bernardini x Seeking The Gold x Caerleon
This filly broke out strong in her 2yr old season scoring three wins in a row, closing like an outlaws horse on the run in each of them. From her maiden start
to an allowance and then a win in the G3 Mistaken Soda Identity she claimed victory in each. Yet in her 3yr old starts shes been rather uninspired as of late.
This filly out of the mare Belle of the Bayou needs to find her form again for trainer/texasace but with her outstanding pedigree and prior performances she
is capable. Her two 3yr old starts consist of the G1 Vermont Is 4 Lovers and the G2 Miss Bonnie with a 6th place and a 4th place finish respectively. Perhaps
she’ll take a liking to the Kentucky track and storm home for a win once again. Odds on her are 6 to 1 raceday.
#8 MISTY MELODY-
Speightstown x Danzig x Seattle Slew
Here is another filly looking for some redemption in her 3yr old campaign after a strong season at 2, she scored a G3 win in the Dr. Shut Yer Lips Juv and then
went on to run second in the G1 Walnut Tree, only to finish umm not so well in the Breeder Bowl Juv Filly that year. Her only start at 3 was the Vermont Is 4
Lovers where she ran a deserving third with a nice effort. She’ll be facing fomer rivals in this race and shes bound to want to show her stuff and prove herself
here on Saturday. Its a big step up for this filly if she can win and it would be a nice kick-off to jumpstart her season, trainer/baggio will be all smiles on race
day if she pulls it off and why wouldnt he be? She’s a longest shot on the board at odds of 14 to 1.
#9 PURELY PLATINUM
Awesome Again x Storm Cat x Easy Goer
This filly out of the mare Zero Tolerance II has done very well in her six lifetime starts, hitting the board in all of them and winning her last start as a 2yr old
in the 8f Paint Nana Dirt Juv Filly Stakes. It was a rather light field but the filly rated well, waited for her prompt to make her bid and closed thru the stretch
to win by 2 lengths in front of Serenade T who nearly wired the field. Her only start at 3 in the G1 Los Vinegrette Stakes was a solid effort and was the first time
this filly ever finished third. Trainer/Tisjuliet can be proud of this filly and shes earned a shot here, shes abit more rested than some coming in for this start
and she just might be sitting on a lifetime best. Odds on her are 12 to 1 for race day.
#10 DELICIOSO-
Medaglia D’ Oro x Storm Cat x Seeking The Gold
Trainer/adrian has a filly on a winning streak here, shes run back to back wins her last three starts and although two of those are allowances the last is a Stakes
win and shes never finished worse than second..ever. Thats an accomplishment reguardless of level in my book, it shows a horse who likes to win and this one’s
looking like she could surprise this field Saturday. She likes to stalk the leader and wear them down, no doubt she’ll have to improve even more than in her last
start, but has she truly been challenged yet is the question. After scoring a nice win in the 8.5 Kase Dismissed Dirt Filly route shes gone the distance and run her
best speed figure but its going to likely take more to win this race. Odds are 8 to 1 for this filly out of mare Geddesburg.
#11 HOUSE OF TRICKS-
Falbrav(Ire) x Unbridled’s Song x Storm Cat
Its hard to say how this filly out of the mare House Of Games will perform on Saturday, this ones running a bit hot and cold and hasnt had a win since last years
October G2 Camlaw Stakes at 2. She had come into that race with two prior wins in allowance races, but shes been less than stellar for the start of her 3yr old
campaign, her first try was in G3 Santa Jezebel thru the slop where she ran a very distant last, but that can be forgiven. Trainer/super1 is gonna need alot of
luck as the filly also ran last in the G1 Los Vinegrette and with really no excuse as to why. Maybe by race day he can get this filly on her toes and ready to run
but she goes off at odds of 33 to 1.
#12 BOLBOUS-
Hurricane Run(Ire) x Gone West x Sky Mesa
Here’s a filly coming in hot, theres no need to talk about much except her 3yr old starts as she has more than earned her start here. Lets begin with her first
try at 3 the 9.5 Pico Pequeno Dirt Filly Route where she easily wired the field, next she took on the Crimson Pirate Turf Stakes with a switch up on surfaces
at 9.5 furlongs again and she nearly wired there only grudgingly giving up the win in the last strides to Love From Above. Trainer/tyedye cut her back on
distance in her most recent start and put her back on dirt again in the G1 California Oaks, where she once again lead the way and only lost by a little more
than a length that day to finish with her best speed a 104 and second place. She looks to be in top shape and has a excellent chance of running away with
big check and the rest of the field, watch out for this one. Odds on this prime filly out of the mare Pacific Oil Field are 10 to 1.
#13 BUY THE MOON-
Malibu Moon x Saint Liam x Dubai Millennium
This filly out of millionaire earning dam All The Riches is off to a strong start herself rolling thru allowances after breaking her maiden in her second start
and going on to win her final allowance start at 2 as well. For her first effort as a 3yr old she tryed a 9 furlong high level allowance and finished with a very
game second closing as per her running style. She then stepped right up into the G1 Los Vinegrette closing from the very back of the pack and had to settle
for second behind Explosive Nine by 3 and 3/4 lengths, with Elusive Style running third who she’ll meet up with again in this race. Trainer/flagdown’s filly
hit her first triple digit with a 100 speed rating in that start, shes going to need to stay closer up to this group containing more than a few fillies with closing
running styles. Odds for her are 13 to 1 and this outside post should let her settle back while the early speed sets up the pace.
#14 K’S IMPASSE-
Street Cry(Ire) x Storm Cat x Seattle Slew
A filly with a pace setting or stalking style this one’s coming in with three back to back wins, climbing the allowance ladder like a pro, increasing her speeds
and distances with each start and its almost like trainer/kasavage aimed this filly for this specific race. This filly will make her first appearance in the States
as shes been quite the jet-setter in her career. Her first start at 3 was an nw3L allowance and she stalked leader Green Form throughout then overtook her in
the last strides to win comfortably jockey Ledwith never needing to show her the whip. Out of the mare K’S Klobby II this dark brown filly then took aim at the
8f Minister To Deb Dirt Filly Mile Stakes for her second start where she took the race from gate to wire winning easily once again. Her start here will be her first
attempt at the 8.5 distance but it doesnt look to be a problem when you consider her past starts and pedigree. It’s a big jump to a G1 here but she hasnt shown
that shes not up to the task as of yet, and goes off the board at odds of 15 to 1.
That wraps up our field for Saturdays $500,000 lool Oaks and this race looks to rather wide open with different combinations of running styles coming together
in what should be a very brilliant performances from these young fillies all wanting their time to shine in the Bluegrass State, and who knows perhaps the Blue-
grass Oaks as well. Good luck to all!
