Preview Leviathan Turf 2012
Prieview Leviathan Turf Grade II / Group 2
Hi everyone and welcome to green New Zealand for the running of the Leviathan Turf 2012. The warm weather promises to bring out the big crowds for the first day of summer racing. Today we have a small but tight field and any horse could win if he has his day, but I think this will be a race between the 2 favourites.

This colt is our early equal favourite and with his record you can definately see why. He is yet to miss a placing at the distance but has never raced at this class. He did finish second in a GRP3 race 2 starts back and at his only start in a GRP1 he was well out of the race over 2400m. He is in good form and I think the trainer has prepared him for a race like this, so he should be hard to beat.
PP#2 SEATTLE RANGER KY onyourmark R Harzheim $5
3yo Brown Colt by U S RANGER x SEATTLE SLEW
Starts:18: 4-3-0
Money Earnt: $142,278

Class Starts: 5:0-0-0
Last 5 Starts: 66680
This colt is the equal longshot of the day and you can probably say that’s due to his form lately. Has won 3 times and a second from 9 starts at the distance, but his record at the class is shocking. Yet to be placed from 5 starts at the class, but has placed once at GRP3 level. Not much I can say about this one apart from that he should be racing in easier company.
PP#3 PAIN IN THE MAMBO KY megaman42 B Tate $5
3yo Chestnut Colt by LEMON DROP KID x ROBERTO
Starts:14: 3-2-3
Money Earnt: $120,715
Distance Starts: 6:2-1-2
Class Starts: First Start
Last 5 Starts: 58221
This colt is the other longshot of the race and probably due to lack of experience at this class. Has great record at the distance, but he is stepping up in class here today. His only start in a stakes race resulted in him finishing some 10 lenghts third in a field of six. Has found some form lately and should be ready for a race like this. He is a bit of an unknown so take him at your own risk.
PP#4 DEXIE’S MIDNIGHT DEN taylormade P Rosportz B Tate $1.8
3yo Brown Colt by DEXTERITY x NIGHT SHIFT
Starts:18: 5-6-1
Money Earnt: $950,300
Distance Starts: 7:0-5-0
Class Starts: 3:1-1-0
Last 5 Starts: 23267
This colt is the other equal favourite and when you see how much money he has won you can understand why. He is running at the 1600m again which is a bit of a jinx race for him as he has finished 5 times second from 7 starts. Has only once missed a placing from 3 starts at the class and has had his last 2 starts at this track so should be third time lucky. Expect him to run well again but just to miss the win this time.
PP#5 THANK AGAIN LORD P IRE 3M thehofman A Tazdevil $3
3yo Brown Colt by LORD SHANAKILL x LORD AT WAR (ARG)
Starts:12: 5-2-2
Money Earnt: $136,855
Distance Starts: 1:0-0-0
Class Starts: First Start
Last 5 Starts: 26211
This colt is our last runner and the middle horse at 3/1. Has only the one start at the distance for a seventh at NW3L allowance. He is stepping up in class here with his best result coming at his last start when he won a stakes race at 1800m. He is getting better with each run but the question mark will be can he handle the GRP2 class? In a small field like this I think he is a good each-way chance.
So there we have it good luck to all involved.
