The son of Fantastic Light won this race the last two years, and set the track on fire last year in a flat out fast 1:33 2/5.

This year, the sixth running, sees only one horse returning from last year’s race, and several young three-year-olds set to challenge their elders. But don’t think that those youngsters can’t pull it off! Dom Tendencies was only a sophomore when he won this race for the first time, so it has been done before.

Nextbonus’ Twice Told Tale headlines this year’s running. The five-year-old by Java Gold may have only one graded win to his credit, but he’s no stranger to the winner’s circle, and has hit the board in many elite graded stakes. He has run a mile in 1:33 4/5 before, and appeared in last year’s Breeder’s Bowl Turf. He won five races in a row this year, including two stakes, before a subpar effort in a G2 last time out.

Amandas’ Come On You Blues is a relative newcomer to the turf scene, despite being five years old. Who knows what inspired amandas to try turf after 27 races on dirt, but it certainly breathed new life into this son of A.P. Indy. He responded with five wins in a row, three of them stakes. The jump afterwards to G1 may have been a bit premature, but his performances suggest he has the ability to do well here. With few other true frontrunners entered, he may have little competition to open up a lead on the field.

Third in the morning line odds is Sender Burglar. She has put over $1.6 million in trainer stargazer’s coffer. The chestnut Cat Thief mare has a G1 and four G3 victories on her resume, along with several listed stakes, many finishes on the board in graded stakes, and an appearance in last year’s Breeder’s Bowl Turf Distaff. Although one might assume that she is on the downside of her career, she did win the G3 Tai-Bo Stakes in May for the second time in as many years, and ran second in a listed stakes last time out in July. She is well-rested and is a seasoned veteran, a star on turf who certainly belongs here even though she’s facing males.

Runaway99’s Forest Agent is a G1 winner. The five-year-old son of Forestry won four races in a row earlier this year, three of them stakes. He has won twice on an off track, which could help him here. Although his graded win was at 9 furlongs, he ran his top two speed figures at a mile, and surely could win if he can repeat one of those efforts.

Last Groom T has done quite well in his short career. The four-year-old Gone West colt only began racing one year ago this week. He first ran on turf in February, and wasted no time in making his name known, winning a listed stakes in his second turf start, finishing third in a G1 in his fourth, and winning the G2 Merced Stakes in his fifth. His has also won a G3 since then. His efforts have earned him a turf classic ranking of 26, and his best days may still be ahead of him.

Varsitytwo’s Golden Bridle has only run on turf twice, winning an open allowance last time out. He appears to be best at today’s distance, having run his best speed figures at a mile, including a second-place finish in a G2, albeit on dirt. He’s been somewhat inconsistent, but if he can reproduce his best effort, he could be in contention.

Foggy Prospect is a real veteran, having over fifty races under his belt and over $1 million in earnings. The seven-year-old Spinning World horse is a G2 winner on dirt. Although he has not won a stakes on turf, he placed in two G1 races and a G2 late last year. He has not run as well this year, but has had a couple of races to get back in shape after a long layoff earlier in the season, and could be looking for one last hurrah before retirement.

Tequila With Lime has not even won a stakes, but he has hit the board in two G3 sprints. Don’t label him as purely a sprinter, though, as his best speed figure was run at 8.5 furlongs, and his sire Lemon Drop Kid gets 56% routers. Off six weeks between his last two starts, it appears as if he may have needed some time off. If his last race was just to get back into shape, he could surprise with a big run.

The three-year-old with the best odds today is Rebellion. A son of War Chant, he has won a G2 and two G3 in his career, just missing out on another G2 by a quarter-length. He hasn’t had much luck here in Illinois, although he has a much better jockey this time than he has in his past races. He actually has the best jockey in the race, and if Munoz can coax a good race out of him, he may be adding to his trophy shelf.

Although A.P. Night has seven career victories, this is his first appearance in stakes company. The four-year-old Night Shift colt is coming off his best effort, an easy victory over this same track in a conditioned allowance, beating two graded winners in the process. Jockey Y. Dunbar is in the stirrups once again, and the rapport he has established with this colt could result in another superb race.

Azuma25’s A.P. Jack CB ran in this race last year as a three-year-old. He appears to have matured somewhat since then, winning three of his five starts this year. He hasn’t run since early August, so he should be fresh, and likely has not reached his peak maturity yet.

The rest of the field consists of three sophomore colts. Fort Meade has won five listed stakes this year. His best effort came when he ran a 105 speed figure two weeks ago in a stakes in North Dakota, defeating a graded winner. Centaurus(Ire) has won a G3, and ran a 107 speed figure over a mile in an open stakes on good turf. A repeat of that effort could see him there at the wire. Dr Mano(Ire) is the longshot of the race, primarily because he has never set foot on turf. He is graded-placed on dirt, but he also has never routed, so predicting his performance is a shot in the dark at best.

There you have it, a full field vying for the winner’s share of the $150,000 purse. We have a morning-line favorite who has been to the Breeder’s Bowl Turf, a millionairess who has also been to the Breeder’s Bowl and would like nothing more than to show these males who’s really the boss, sophomores on their way up, and more! Which one will it be?
