While the race may be a G2 affair, it is G1 in both purse and in quality.
The entrant attracting the most attention is Rozelle Zapper who is going for the hat trick after winning The Iceberg-G1 and the Breeders’ Bowl Sprint-G1. The speedy son of Ghostzapper is in peak form, and the extra furlong should not give either thebandit or jockey Herbert Ross any concern. This gy goes out and does his thing, and he’ll be flying down the stretch as the popular 4/1 choice.
Cobrakai looks to be in a good spot to upset the favorite with Keasbey Nights. The four year old son of Gone West absolutely ran lights out in the GRSimster Championship, psting a 113 SF. He’s been primarily running at 7 furlongs, so the 6 1/2 furlong distance should be right up his alley. Another closer, it will be interesting to see who makes the first move – Rozelle or Keasbey.
Third betting choice is Isitingood’s Cranky Squirrel. The seven furlong specialist was sensational in the Foregone-G1, which he won with a 117 SF, but has struggled in his tries at 6 furlongs. I suspect the 6 1/2 furlongs will help, as he’s won several times at this distance, but he’s going to have his work cut out to catch the favorite.
Clarion Call has been running well in lesser stakes, where he has been scoring some nice speed figures and wins. He was fifth last out in the G3 Uncle Vernon, and fourth in the Old Name-G1, so the mrvoice trainee still has to prove he can take it to the next level. Still, based on speed figures, the Special Week colt belongs, and an upset win would not be a shocker.Super stables has had some success in this race, winning with Procedure, and hopes Entity can do the same here. The son of A.P. Indy fell just short in the Breeders’ Bowl Sprint-G1, missing by 14 length, and was more recently third in the Double F. Memorial. Should fare better with the extra distance, and 9/1 offer some attractive odds.
Danger Close has been one of the best sophomore sprinters in training, winning the Stephen Woody-G2 and Carry Forward-G2 for Fairhaven4. The son of Dansili disappointed in the Breeders’ Bowl Sprint when tackling elders for the first time, but rebounded nicely in a listed stakes at this distance last out. Clearly has the talent to compete.
The rest of the field is at 10/1 or higher. Idiotproof’s Japanese Dragon has been competing mostly in allowance company, but has three straight victories there, all with speed figures of 104 or higher. The rain dance his connections were hoping for never materialized, though. Roof has been knocking on the door for some time for ajerkens. The steel grey son of Smoke Glacken has been posting high speed figures, but having the misfortune of running into horses that simply run better that day. Second in the Pat O’Ryan (109 SF), and beaten only a neck in his last try at this distance (107 SF), this stone cold closer needs a little racing luck to go his way. Invastortc sends Any Given Cat postward. The son of Any Given Sunday has been on a hot streak lately, and was most recently third in the JFK Street-G3, his best showing against graded company in a while. Like Japanese Dragon, this guy does his best running in the slop, which he won’t get today. The Wrong Giant was just behind Any Given Cat in the JFK, but earlier in the year has won both the Strong Leader-G3 and the Pat O’Ryan-G2, both at 7 furlongs. The former claimer absolutely loves that distance, and started his recent hot streak with a score at 6 1/2 panels, so he should be able to get the job done. Lots to like about desjettex’ entrant at 13/1. Marlboro Account is yet another son of Smoke Glacken in the filed. He’s not had much luck in graded events, but just missed in a listed stakes at 7 1/2 furlongs (109 SF) for urcfarms. Will need some luck to turn things around against this field, but a talented horse regardless. Sledwith2 has K’s Uncoachable, another talented runner with a K themed name. After working his way through his conditions, the son of A.P. Indy won a listed stakes at 7 furlongs (111 SF) before finishing fourth in the Dennis Rodman Sprint-G2 last time out. Very nice horse who will get a class test here.
At 20/1 and higher are Nitro2000’s Another Contender, and Blankpoin4’s A Special Bond. Another Contender looked great in an allowance two starts ago, winning with a 108 SF. The lightly raced son of More Than Ready was eighth in his prior graded stakes try and will need to run at his best to compete here. A Special Bond’s speed figures are for the most part, in the 90s, although he has two recent efforts where he broke the 100 mark. Third in a 7 1/2 furlong stakes last out, he appears to want longer and gets a real gut check here. A very nice colt, but this is a very tough race.

[2

post-9873","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
