In last weeks Spotlight race, I threw my support to Sparkus Andronicus but made the comment that he could be beat.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The one who I thought had the best chance was my second pick, Turned to Stone who did exactly that, picking up her seventh career win in the process and paying $6.30.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The exacta was a pretty cheap $9.20 with my top two picks in a boxed wager.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

For the third spot, I backed VT Raven, favoring her over Whathappensinvegas as I felt she was showing some signs of wear.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>As it turned out, Whathappensinvegas grabbed the third spot just a few strides over VT Raven.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

So with that quick background, time to move on to this weeks focus race British Columbia draws our attention this week with the 6th<\/SUP> race gaining the Spotlight\u2019s attention.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This is a 6.5 furlong dirt race with horses age 5 or older eligible that have not won a race over the last three months.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It is a bid race for Pinstripe who has set the race as a claiming event with a very modest tag of $40,000.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

1.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Autograph\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>9-2<\/SPAN>-Took a three month break earlier this year and returned with a nice second with 94 SP versus allowance.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Follow-up race was in a bit tougher allowance field finishing seventh, but by just over two strides.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Drops to lower level and expect a competitive effort<\/P>

2. Subversive\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>10-1 <\/SPAN>\u2013Claimed in January out of sprint race this guy was tested after a rest in April going 10.5 furlongs in allowance race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Distance was too much for him to handle.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He comes back to a more appealing distance where he had average speed of 92 in sprints.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Drops back to claimers and has rested again.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Might be a tad rusty but I can\u2019t see him not<\/I><\/B> improving off of last race.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

3.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Status Pro\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>18-1<\/SPAN>-Ran competitively in low end NW-Lifetime claimers and gets moved up considerably in claiming ranks into this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Career top speed is 91 and this 5-year old doesn\u2019t hit 90\u2019s with any regularity.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Maybe switch to new barn will make difference.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

4\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Distortion Plus\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>10-1<\/SPAN>-Horse has been struggling since being claimed last September.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Comes in after a near 3-month layoff and the rest may proof to be rewarding.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Still, it may take another race to get into the flow of things.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

5\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Gum<\/st1:PlaceName> Drop<\/st1:PlaceName> Mountain<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place>\u00a0 <\/SPAN>\u00a0<\/SPAN>7-2 <\/SPAN>\u2013Horse is the entrant for race sponsor Pinstripe.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has been racing very well over this track since March hitting speeds from 94 to 108 and has been off the board only once in four tries.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Conditions look advantageous for this run.<\/P>

6.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Millennium Bug\u00a0 <\/SPAN>9-2<\/SPAN>-Takes drop from allowance ranks to claimers where he was on the board twice of four starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Speeds in those races ranged from 87 to 103.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>One to consider seriously on this class drop.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

7.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Shoot and Scat\u00a0 <\/SPAN>5-2<\/SPAN>-This chestnut colored horse just can\u2019t get across the finish line on top.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In 8 races this year, he\u2019s brought home a paycheck in all but one race. \u00a0<\/SPAN>Racing in lowest claiming tag of the year for him and speeds have ranged between 97 to 105 in last five starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Could break the slump this time out.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

\u00a0<\/SPAN>8.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I Am Luis\u00a0 <\/SPAN>6-1<\/SPAN>-Made return to dirt in January\u00a0 <\/SPAN>for first time in two years with a decent second against starter allowance with 94 speed.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Tried again in early July with similar effort and same speed against $13,500 claimers.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Likes to lead and will need to fight with others for positioning.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>If speed can improve a bit, he could upset.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

9.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Devil\u2019s Oil\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>29-1<\/SPAN>-This eight year old may be past his prime.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Last race he won was four years ago.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s lightly raced this year with a long 5 month break when he finished fifth over this track in $30k claimer and speed of 83.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This is second start back after break which many horses show big improvement, but at his current age, I think he\u2019ll be hard press to hit a speed of 90.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

It looks to me that this race will be the battle of the front runners.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>No real closers in the race so I\u2019m going with\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Shoot and Scat with the edge drawing the top jockey.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Second I\u2019ll go with Gum<\/st1:PlaceName> Drop<\/st1:PlaceName> Mountain<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> who has done well on the track.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Third choice to I Am Luis who could pad the exotics with some decent payouts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
