The race will be the twelfth race on the weekends card and will be open to three-year-old fillies and run over a mile and a quarter on the turf. Last years’ winner of the race was juju’s Buda At The Dance (GB), who went on to win the QE2 Challenge (G1) and to come in as runner up in the Breeders’ Bowl F&M Turf (G1) over in the States. This year we are looking at a field of eight fillies and what will be a firm turf course this weekend. Let’s take a look at the contenders.
1. State Of Disarray (AUS) – (Redoute’s Choice x Kris S. x Caerleon) – beenskunkd of Skunkbarn Stables – S. Graf – 9/2
With a total of eleven career starts, the chestnut Australian-bred filly has four wins in her lifetime. She will be making her first graded stakes start this weekend after being successful at listed stakes level prior to now. The most recent start for the homebred filly was in the Fat Free Car Turf Filly Route, a listed stakes race over nine furlongs in the United States. The filly broke out of the gate just off the lead of one other filly. She settled back easily off the pace of the pacesetter before she would move forward to challenge the opposing filly in the stretch, passing by her in the stretch to win by a length and three quarters, setting a lifetime best speed figure of ninety-eight. Prior to this she’d also won a nine furlong allowance race. In addition to her first graded stakes race the filly will also be starting over ten furlongs for the first time. She will likely be forwardly placed, either on the pace as the race leader or just off the pace of the leader.
2. The Bee’s Knees (IRE) – (Sea The Stars (IRE) x Storm Cat x Fusaichi Pegasus) – mtktoday of Shamrock Stables – C. Cleland – 7/1
Making her tenth career start this weekend, the brown filly is out of the broodmare Total Mess and is already a graded stakes winner. The connections of the filly are looking for her to rebound this week after a disappointing twelfth place finish in The Japanese 1000 Guineas (G1) last month. Prior to this the filly had finished third after fading late in the New Zealand Oaks (G2) at twelve furlongs on the turf. Her graded win came as a two-year-old in The Young Lady (G2) in her home country of Ireland. The filly has faced the ten furlong distance, or longer, twice in her career. She should be forwardly placed this weekend, either on the lead or being held just off the pace of a few front runners.
3. Hard Rock Dancer (IRE) – (Danehill Dancer (IRE) x Rock Hard Ten x Machiavellian) – 10blocklaz of otistaylor stable group – V. McMahon – 4/1
Another filly in the field this week trying to get her first graded win, she has come close to tasting victory at this level a few times. Her most recent start was in the United Arab Emirates during the Charity Filly Turf Special, a listed stakes race at seven and a half furlong, which was this year held on a good turf track. The filly was forwardly placed at the start, held just off the pace. She took control of the race halfway through and narrowly managed to hold on to the win as she managed to get her head down first at the wire in a close finish. She set a lifetime best speed figure of ninety-nine. Her most recent graded start was at a mile in the Ice Cream Gold (G3) where the filly was placed further back off the pace and came on late to finish fourth. The filly will be facing ten furlongs for the first time, having never run beyond a mile.
4. And Stuff – (Mineshaft x Danzig x Secretariat) – fiend of The Squirrel Empire – B. Lugosi – 5/1
Experienced with a total of eleven career starts, the brown filly was bred in the United States and is out of the graded placed broodmare Mud And Suds. With four lifetime wins, she is making her third graded stakes start this weekend, in which the connections of the filly hope will be her first victory at this level of racing. The filly last started in The Grotto (G3) over a mile here in France. The filly broke mid-pack out of the gate and started to make up some ground before the field came into the stretch, but she then began to fade and came home to finish seventh at the wire, though she was only off the pace of the winner by three and a quarter lengths. She set a speed figure of ninety-nine. Prior to this the filly had won two consecutive races including the Costa Rica Rain, another listed stakes over a mile on the turf. The longest the filly has run has been eight and a half furlongs, but this was over the dirt back in the States. The filly will likely be just off the pace of a few front runners.
5. Peekaboo Roots (GB) – (Green Desert x Forty Niner x Nijinsky II) – foxon3 of Foxon Stables – J. Ledwith – 6/1
Out of the graded winning broodmare Bring Me Joy, the brown filly is just one of two stakes winners produced by her dam. In seven career starts, the filly has never finished worse than second in any of her races and she is approaching the career earnings mark of $100,000. However, the filly has yet to win a graded race, but will be making her first try at this caliber of competition this weekend in The Saint Larry (G1). The filly made her most recent start overseas in the United States during the Proud Mary Turf Filly Route, a listed stakes race over nine and a half furlongs on the turf. Prior to this the filly had also won the nine furlong listed Tough Seattle Turf Filly Route. The filly will be shipping out of the country for the first time and will also be facing the ten furlong distance for the first time, though it does not appear that the added distance will cause the filly any problem.
6. Northern Town (AUS) – (Northern Meteor (AUS) x Dynaformer x Carson City) – paddy of Twoofus Stables – B. Wu – 9/2
Finishing off the board only once in her career, the Australian-bred three-year-old is out of the graded placed broodmare New Bolton. The chestnut filly is her only offspring and is already a graded stakes winner herself. She made her most recent start in Victoria, Australia during the Sydney Oaks (G1) at twelve furlongs. The chestnut filly broke out of the gate towards the middle of the field, but quickly started working his way towards the front of the pack. As they neared the stretch the filly found her way to the lead, but it wasn’t enough as she was overcome by another filly, and she went on to finish second, back off the pace by two and a quarter lengths. She set a speed figure of ninety-nine. She also placed in the New Zealand Oaks (G2) and won in the Tristan Fillies (G3), which will be the same distance as The Saint Larry (G1) that she will be running this weekend. The filly will likely take off out of the gate this weekend placed towards the middle to rear of the field.
7. Mont Noir (IRE) – (Montjeu (IRE) x Unbridled’s Song x Giant’s Causeway (IRE) – super16 of Simply……..SUPER! – J. Ventura – 5/1
Lightly raced with just five career starts, the roan filly, out of stakes placed broodmare Quick Take, will be trying to score her first graded win after being winless in this caliber of racing in two graded starts. The most recent start for the filly was promising in The Grotto (G3) at a mile. The filly broke out of the gate right on the lead but was caught by a late charging filly at the final furlongs of the race and she fell back to finish second by a quarter of a length. She set a lifetime best speed figure of one hundred three. Her only other graded start, the New Zealand Oaks (G2) at twelve furlongs proved to be too long for the filly, who staggered home over eighteen lengths off the pace in ninth. We will see this weekend if she is better suited to the ten furlongs of the Saint Larry (G1).
8. Formaly – (Dynaformer x Alydar x Northern Dancer) – wingedfoot of Balata Golf Resort – D. Coulthard – 7/1
A late entry into the field this weekend, the brown filly is lightly raced with just five career starts. She has finished off the board only once so far in her career and will be facing her graded stakes debut, like some of the other horses in the field this weekend, here in The Saint Larry (G1). The most recent start for the filly was in a nine furlong allowance race in Belgium. The filly broke out of the middle post and settled back into the middle of the pack and didn’t gain much ground until urged right before the stretch. She would go on to win the race impressively by three and three-quarter lengths, setting a speed figure of ninety-five, a lifetime best. Prior to this she had also won a mile long allowance race on the turf in Portugal. Her most recent listed start was in the Warm Warning (GB) Memorial, at seven furlongs and on the good turf, where she didn’t fire and finished fourth. She will likely be held off the pace on Saturday, though he is a versatile filly.

[2

post-9213","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
