While some of the really bigwigs are resting for the Breeders\u2019 Bowl in two weeks\u2019 time, California has still managed to snatch up some quality horseflesh for the Grade II Walnut BB Mile on the turf.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Anyone three-and-up can and will play:<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

Alberta<\/B><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> Gold<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Bertaal<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>11\/1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Bold of a 3yo filly to take on older males, but coming off a G1 win, she can afford to be bold.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>That race was a lifetime best for her, though, and was against girls her own age.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She showed that she\u2019s capable of big things, but I\u2019m leery of backing her against older boys at this point.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>On the plus side, she has a superb rider aboard.<\/P>

Grimnosh<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Knightmare<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>8\/1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Regularly hits the board in these races, but hasn\u2019t won in ages.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Is shortening up a smidge here, will that be enough to let this frontrunner hang on to the lead all the way to the wire?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Will have an impact on the race as he fights to the front, but I suspect he\u2019s just a little outclassed by the best here.<\/P>

Jimmy the Greek<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Smokeglack<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>8\/1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Red Ransom colt has really been off his A-game in recent months.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Coming off a layoff here.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Probably at least needs a tuneup and then it\u2019ll be time to see whether he can regain his former turn of foot.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Has a few things to prove before he looks like a horse worth backing again.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

Mizzen Dizzie<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Spain<\/I><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>7\/2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Consistently a factor in graded affairs of late, he recently won the Maudlin Cup at this distance.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Only two weeks off here, but I don\u2019t see any reason to expect that to be a problem.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019d be more worried if he\u2019s headed to the BB, which would give him another short two-week break.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>For this race, though, this frontrunner is looking very tough.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Expect him to be right in the mix.<\/P>

Gold Inferno<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Correction<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>11\/1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>3yo ran an outstanding race two back in the Grade 3 Violin against his elders, but failed badly next time out when he tried graded company again.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The Violin was his first turf race in quite a while, and it looks like he got a boost from the switch that didn\u2019t repeat in his next outing.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Based on that I don\u2019t expect too much of\u00a0 <\/SPAN>him here, though he\u2019s certainly shown that his best race is good enough to take on this field.<\/P>

Union Colony<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Luckyhobo<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>24\/1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Best races are on off tracks, other than that his races just barely break into the 90s.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>That won\u2019t cut it here.<\/P>

Twice Told Tale<\/B>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Nextbonus<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>7\/2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Veteran of 32 starts is coming off 5 straight wins, though none of those were in graded company.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s shown in the past, however, that he can compete at this level.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Watch for him to come from several lengths off the pace.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>If he\u2019s still up to graded competition, he\u2019ll be right there and will do some damage.<\/P>

Back in Your Arms\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/B>Iant4<\/I>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>4\/1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Classy filly has been phenomenal, winning her last 3 and a Grade I last time out.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s been running against the girls and has been just a tick slower than the best races by the best horses here. But she\u2019s not far behind them and the slightest stumble by them, or the slightest extra effort by her, could put her in the winner\u2019s circle.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Pretty decent jock aboard.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Has a very real chance at this race, but so do several others.<\/P>

I I don\u2019t have any real insights this week \u2013 several horses are quite capable of winning and there\u2019s not much that I can see to separate them.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Should be a very exciting race and likely a close finish amongst the top bunch.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Good luck to all the trainers and their horses!<\/o:p><\/P>
