Grade I $500,000 for older F&M going seven furlongs on the Kentucky dirt is a wide open affair, with #1 ranked K’s Broken Dream trying to end the year there. She will be hard pressed to end the year in that spot, as six hard hitting females will try and knock her off her roost.
The race is named after Julie Krone, the first female jockey elected into racing’s Hall of Fame. She was also the first female jock to win a triple crown event, when guiding Colonial Affair to victory in the 1993 Belmont Stakes and first female to have her picture taken aboard a Breeders Cup mount, when trouncing the 2003 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies field atop Halfbridled. Has won four of her last seven, after suffering defeat in her first eight trips to the track this season. Seven furlongs is not her typical distance, yet she does have a victory at 7 furlongs in Wyoming just a few months ago. She had things her own way that day, being able to dictate a slow pace. Saturday she will need to do much better.<\/p>\n
2. K’s Broken Dream (Ky) , 3-1 favorite , Wrecks Stable from Hispano Parlante residency. Five year old daughter of Awesome Again comes into this ranked the #1 older female sprinter. Exits a brilliant second in the Breeders Bowl F&M Sprint at this distance to the freaky good 3yo Extended Power. Has raked in over $1.6m in her career. Is a true 7 furlong runner and has a tremendous late kick for any front runner to hold off. Top jock takes the mount. Seems like many think this is the one to beat.<\/p>\n
3. My Guilt My Shame (Ky) , 6-1 , sdmf , Black Label Stables from the DelPenn National residency. Four year old by Distorted Humor has only won once in her last six races since taking the Gr III Trail Mix Stakes back in May. She was handled easily by K’s Broken Dream when they met in the G I Nutcracker. She is of good quality, question is if she has improved enough to turn the tables. On the outside looking in I think.<\/p>\n
4. Ghost In My House (Ky) , 5-1 , foxon3 , Foxon Stables from Pastures of Green residency. Five year old from Ghostzapper has been rolling this year, winning nine of fifteen. Only two were in stakes competition, minor ones at that, yet she just might have the talent to turn some heads, a good run here and she might start to try the upper echelon more often in the year to come. <\/p>\n
5. Lucky Destiny (Ky) , 7\/2 , coolk , Kevoman Stables representing EAAA Racing. Filly by War Chant comes back after a 5th place finish in the BB F&M Sprint behind today’s favorite. Winner of $1.2m has been running Gr I and II company for more than 17 months now. This will be her 4th meeting in a Gr I this year against K’s Broken Dream. She has bested that one the first time they met and has finished behind her the past two races. Major Major player.<\/p>\n
6. Smoked Ya (Ky) , 4-1 , theogbarn , Robsscoobi Stables representing Empire State Racing. Lets get straight to the point on this five year old daughter of Awesome Again. This is my top selection. She may just be the controlling pace and has done extremely well in winning her last three attempts in front running fashion. Lightly raced this year and is on a four week schedule the past few months. If the others wait to long to come and get her, she could be long gone. <\/p>\n
7. Insome Gold (Ky) , 5-1 , tenpin8 , Rockriver Stables associated with the Yoss Simtools. Four year old by Invasor is yet another millionaire, in banking over $1.2m. This one has me talking to myself. She has proven herself at distances ranging from 6 furlongs which she has competed well, up to 9.5 furlongs which she ran 3rd in the ’09 Vermont is for Lovers. Always gives a trying effort, yet of late has been coming up short. Is the key to the race, will she press hard for the lead, or take back a bit? A solid gal that is a must use in gimmick plays.<\/p>\n
