A field of nine has been entered, with some entrants eligible for the Breeders Bowl Turf, but have opted for this grade one instead. So lets grab our coffee cups, and get down to business.

Drawing the rail is one of the potential Breeders Bowl Turf candidates, chilimac’s Naked Boot. Naked Boot is a five year old son of Woodman, out of an unraced Nureyev mare. In thirty three trips to the track, he’s gone to the winner’s circle ten times, and finished second twelve times, and third an additional five, earning over $2.3 million. Naked Boot is a grade one winner at this distance, which was earned in his last start. Naked Boot has won at distances from a mile to a mile and three quarters, and does it on the lead. He’s got massive stamina, and speed to boot, winning his grade one with a 112, he has had speed figures a high as 114. Although he has speed and stamina, quite often closers are catching him at the end, and he tends to win easier at fourteen furlongs. At 3/1 there are at least three other horses in this race that go for the lead, which could cause for a massive speed duel up front, which means only the strongest will survive. Considering closers have been catching him, a speed duel will not help him at all.

Breaking from post two will be bandinni’s Ol Ocha, a possible pace spoiler. Ol Ocha is a four year old son of Rahy, out of an unraced Dynaformer mare. In sixteen starts Ol Ocha has won seven times, and finished second and third once each, earning just over $200k. Ocha is a listed stakes winner at a mile, and has not won at over a mile. In fact Ocha has only run today’s distance once, on dirt, in his second start, where he finished third beaten eight lengths in an allowance race. Ol Ocha’s running style is usually on the lead, but he has been known to run from second within a couple lengths of the front runner to win as well. In his last start he wired a listed stake race going a mile by two lengths with a whopping 114 speed figure. At 5/1 he steps up to graded competition for the first time, and adds a half mile in distance, when he’s shown he likes the seven to eight furlong distance, pass.

Post three goes to chloedawg2’s Hoosick Falls, a graded placed dirt winner. Hoosick Falls is a four year old son of Rahy, out of an unraced Storm Bird mare. In twenty three starts Hoosick Falls has won and placed six times each, and finished third four times, earning over a half of a million dollars. Before looking into his stakes and distance history, take a look at his turf history. He’s only run over the surface four times, and finished second and third one time each, not even earning twenty grand. Hoosick is a multiple allowance winner, who became grade two placed last time out running a mile and a quarter. The best he’s done at this distance before was a fading third. Hoosick Falls like to sit fairly close to the pace, usually within a length of the front runners. He comes into this race with back to back 112 speed figure performances, but has not won since July. His longest win came at eleven furlongs, and that day he managed to come from the back, which would probably give him his best chance today. At 4/1 he’s got the pedigree for turf, and everyone knows I LOVE Rahy, but he’s facing proven grade one turf winners, and hasn’t shown he’s up to it yet.

Texasace00 sends out the twelfth ranked older long distance turf star Tex Gold. Tex Gold is a four year old son of Sadler’s Wells, out of an unraced Alydar mare. In twenty one starts he’s won ten times, finishing second three times, and third twice, earning over $4.7 million dollars. Tex Gold is a three time grade one winner at this distance, and comes into this race off of a grade one win last time out going a mile and a half. Like the other grade one winner Naked Boot, he likes to run on the lead, but lacks the excessive speed that the Boot has shown. Now Tex Gold is no slacker with wins in the 108-110 range, he will still be quite competitive in this race. However he won’t get the lead without a fight, and doesn’t generally draw off as far as the other front runners tend to do. In only one of his ten wins has he won from off the lead, so he’ll have to break sharply and fight off the other contenders. In his favor he has been on his A game as of late winning four of his last five starts, three with triple digit speeds. At 9/2 he loves the distance, but won’t be the only one vying for the lead, if he can sprint clear without too much effort he will be tough, if he winds up second or third missing the lead, he’ll spit the bit before the twelve furlongs is up.

Brian215 sends out former claimer, turned graded two stakes winner Good Samaritan. Good Samaritan is a five year old son of Peintre Celebre, out of Full A.P., a daughter of A.P.Indy. On the track Full A.P. was a grade three winner. As a broodmare she has produced seven horses of racing age, five of them winners, and three being stakes winners. Good Samaritan is her graded winner, and best money earner. Full A.P. a grade C mare, is still available for a 2010 foal. In twenty eight starts Good Samaritan has won ten times, and placed four times, earning over a half of a million dollars. Of those ten wins, only four of them were non maiden, claiming or starter wins. Samaritan broke his maiden sprinting at two, but did not win again until early in his three year old year, that time on dirt. His speed figures weren’t hitting it, he was dropped in for a tag, ran for as low at $5k before being claimed, that owner switched him back to turf, his speed figures improved, but he did not so after awhile he was offered for 7.5k and was once again claimed. His next owner used him purely for earning some points and lost him in a win for 7.5k. With his current owner he won two open upper level claiming races before winning a listed stakes race with a 112, against a fairly full field of ten. He tried graded next time out but faltered, on the off track the next start going ten furlongs he wired a small field of five grade two. The majority of his wins have him on the lead or fairly close to it, making him the third horse of the field to be a front runner. Now he has won from off the pace, but his stakes races have been on the lead, At 7/1 he’s had a 112 speed figure once, but most of his runs are low 100s, making him slightly slower than the rest of the field. Also no wins at this distance, I think he’s out matched today.

Post six goes to current 5k claimer tagged Bad Magic, out of the rblking1 stable. Bad Magic is a five year old son of Trail City, out of Boca Ciega, a daughter of In The Wings. As a racehorse Boca Ciega, was a grade three winner. As a broodmare she has foaled two horses of racing age, both winners, with Bad Magic being a graded winner. In thirty one starts Bad Magic has won nine times, placed twice, and finished third four times, earning over $400k. Of those nine wins, only five were against non maiden, claimers ot starters. As mentioned before within the last six month he has run for a tag of $5,000. Bad Magic is however a grade three winner at this distance, which happened in March of this year, however he’s spent most of his life against lower level claiming horses. He also won a grade two going thirteen furlongs directly after the grade three win. In fact after that grade three victory, three months later he was offered for the tag of $5k, which he won, and was claimed away, which was also his last win. The new connections have been running him in listed and graded stakes where he has shown nothing. Even in an allowance last time out he faded to a fairly distant sixth. Once again we are dealing with a front runner, and from the looks of it he’s all lead or nothing. When not making it to the lead in his past five starts he did nothing. He has won from just off the pace, but not very far off of it. He does lack the speed of the other front runners with a 104 being his best speed figure, and being well out of triple digit speeds in his last five starts does not help. At 45/1 he’s a long shot for a reason, in his other graded races nobody fought him for the lead, he won’t get away with that today, nor is he on his A game.

Breaking from the seven hole is tips’ Victory Money, an allowance winner who is looking to branch out. Victory Money is a four year old son of Authorized, out of Artsinthealley, a daughter of Crafty Prospector. As a race mare Artsinthealley, was grade three placed winning fifteen of sixty one starts. Victory Money is her only offspring who is graded placed. In twenty four starts he has won eight times, finishing second seven times and third once earning over $750k. Victory is grade one placed at nine and a half furlongs, and finished a disappointing seventh against race entrant Tex Gold at this distance. Its been over nine months since Victory has been victorious, and even that day it was against an open allowance field. Once again we seem to have a pacesetter, who can also run from a length or two behind but not much more than that. His best speed figure was a 112 at nine and a half, which is where he became graded placed, but his average speed figure is in the nineties to mid 100s. The biggest issue with Victory Money is that he’s been off form for awhile now, facing horses who have been performing consistently. At 6/1 he has not won at this distance, and most of his wins are at a mile, I may like him more if this race were shorter, and I’d definitely like him better if he had won in the past six months.

Widest sends out grade two winner, Blanc De Noirs. Blanc De Noirs is a six year old son of Rahy, out of Champagne Popping, a daughter of Zabeel. As a race horse Champagne Popping was a stakes placed mare winning five of eighty seven starts. As a broodmare Champagne Popping has produced five horses of racing age, with four to win, Blanc being her only graded winner. Blanc De Noirs has raced twenty seven times, winning eight times, placing ten , and finishing third three other times, earning over $1.1 million. Blanc is a grade two winner at thirteen furlongs, but finished a disappointing third at this distance last time out to entrant Tex Gold. Blanc’s last win was in an open allowance in July at this distance where he raced from the back of the pack to close and draw off by five by the wire. His best speed figure is a 110, which should stand up to the other high speed figures in this race as he’ll be closing, and not involved in the heated speed duel up front. In his last start he only faced four other horses where the speed held easily that day. Today there are several entrants who will be sprinting for the lead, which could set the race up perfectly for a closer. At 7/1 if the race plays out like I think it could, with a heated speed duel up front, Blanc De Noirs could be there at the end to play the spoiler.

Drawing the outside post is lawyerron’s grade two dirt winner Destiny’s Glory. Destiny’s Glory is a four year old son of Seeking The Gold, out of an unraced Seattle Slew mare. In twenty starts Destiny’s Glory has won and placed four times, with two shows, earning just under $300k. Destiny has only raced on the turf once, finishing off the board earning no money, and that was as a maiden. Destiny took his time breaking his maiden, taking eight trips to the track before finding the winner’s circle. In January of this year he got lucky and won a nine furlong grade two with a 107, but has done nothing since. In his only start at this distance he finished a far back fifth. About the only positive thing that can be noted on Destiny is he comes from well off the pace, with all of the speed in this race that could help him out. At 15/1 he showed nothing in his lone turf start, things change yes, but I think he prefers the dirt. Don’t think he’ll be in contention today.

Well that’s the field, I don’t know about you but I drank about four cups of coffee trying to analyze this race. This race was difficult to make a decision on since there is so much speed it seems like it should set up for a closer, but it looks like the closers like the dirt! My picks are Tex Gold, Blanc De Noirs, and Naked Boot. Good luck to all, may your horses run fast and return to their stables safely.

[2

post-8580","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
