Rolling mountainside scenery, crisp clean lakes, ahhh the joy that is Ontario, Canada<\/I><\/B> …… and this week the home of the Grade I Canada Turf<\/B>, a race worth no less than $2 000 000 in prizemoney to be held on a yielding turf course, open to all horses three years old and up. This year nine horses line up so let\u2019s see how they look. 1 – THE BEAST ENTERS(ENG) \u2013 qwickvett1<\/I> \u2013 7\/1<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (GREEN DESERT x DIESIS(GB) x KINGMAMBO) W Mafit ( 177 – 24 – 15 – 18 – 14% ) A four year old colt who has had two Grade 1 outings over this distance in recent times for a third and a fourth. Five starts back he led all the way in winning a stakes event over this journey. He has a turf long rank of ninety three and has five career wins from twenty seven starts. Trainer quickvett1<\/I><\/B> said \u201cWe are seeing signs of improvment from him all the time, we are hoping he can keep getting better each time out\u201d Each way hope. 2 – PREDATORY(IRE) \u2013 dragster<\/I> \u2013 15\/1<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (GALILEO (IRE) x MR. PROSPECTOR x BUCKPASSER) R Heenan ( 525 – 77 – 72 – 77 – 15% ) A four year old colt with six career wins to his name who narrowly missed winning a Grade 1 event three starts back when just being run down over eleven furlongs. His two runs since then over eleven furlongs have been a little below par which is a major concern and probably the reason he is fifteen to one. The other query is his ability to run a strong mile and a half so he certainly has his work cut out here. 3 – THE END BEGINS(KY) \u2013 lenny28 \u2013 16\/1<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (MEDAGLIA D’ORO x ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x DEPUTY MINISTER) M Ritchie ( 71 – 8 – 9 – 13 – 11% ) One of only two three year olds in the field and a real up and comer.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Has won four of just ten career outings and already has a turf long rank of sixty one. Has won three of his last four with all three wins over this distance albeit at allowance level. \u00a0<\/SPAN>He made a nice graduation into Graded racing with a fast finishing second over fourteen furlongs. If he can take the step up to the next level he may offer investors some value at sixteen to one here.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He certainly has a big future and this race is a real litmus test to see where he is at given his age. 4 – NICENE CREED(IRE) \u2013 mtk76<\/I> \u2013 15\/1<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (MONTJEU (IRE) x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) x NIJINSKY II) D Conrad ( 80 – 10 – 11 – 7 – 13% ) This lightly raced four year old colt looks to have been patiently worked up to a race like this and is ready to produce something big. He may not have won at his past four starts but he has been placed in his last two over ten furlongs and eleven and a half furlongs at Grade III and Grade II levels respectively, the extra distance looks like it will suit perfectly and he can take the step up to Grade I as well.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He could land a big surprise here. 5 – I DON’T STUTTER(KY) \u2013 hoofhearts<\/I> \u2013 5\/1<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (KINGMAMBO x SADLER’S WELLS x SHIRLEY HEIGHTS(GB)) N Linville ( 646 – 154 – 110 – 108 – 24% ) The first of the big guns in this race, a six year old horse who boasts a turf long rank of eight. A winner of eight from thirty four who has won nigh on five million dollars. He may have only won on one occasion from his last eight but that was a Grade I over thirteen furlongs and his last outing saw him run second over a mile and a half at the top level as well. You get the feeling from his last run that he is ready to do something special here too. Trainer hoofhearts<\/I><\/B> said \u201cHe has been working the house down and is nearly at his best for this, that is an ominous warning for his opponents today\u201d. Big chance here. 6 -DRAWING OF THREE(JPN) \u2013 steelcard<\/I> \u2013 20\/1<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (FALBRAV (IRE) x GALILEO (IRE) x DANEHILL) T King ( 102 – 9 – 6 – 12 – 9% ) The second of the three year old colts in this race who is having just his tenth race start here. He absolutely exploded onto the scene last start with a sensational victory over this distance at Grade II level in a three year old event. That was only his third career victory. The start prior to that was the only time he has been tested outside his own age group and he ran third at allowance level over ten furlongs and that is the main concern with this race here. If he can make the graduation to open age racing he may be competitive but he certainly has his work cut out for him. 7 – FUTURE DREAM(KY) \u2013 kevoman<\/I> \u2013 7\/2<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (A.P. INDY x SADLER’S WELLS x NIJINSKY II) P Dylan ( 263 – 43 – 32 – 31 – 16% ) A superbly bred four year old colt who has won seven from fourteen career outings and four of his last eight. He is an on-pace runner who has almost earned one million dollars in prize money. Last time out he ran a nice second at Grade I level over this distance, prior to that he ran home well from just off the pace to win a Grade II race also over the mile and a half trip. He has a real penchant for this distance and if he can handle the yielding turf he is a huge hope. Trainer kevoman<\/I><\/B> said \u201cwe think he is a huge show here f he can handle the going, he seems to work well in these conditions\u201d He is definitely a major player here. 8 – PROUD SOULS(KY) \u2013 desperado3<\/I> \u2013 5\/2<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (AWESOME AGAIN x A.P. INDY x NORTHERN DANCER) B Renfroe ( 575 – 133 – 122 – 91 – 23% ) This five year old horse has a turf long ranking of twelfth and is more than the real deal. He has raced on twenty one occasions for ten wins and already earned over five million dollars. He saluted last time out over this distance at Grade III level and ran fourth the start prior to that in a Grade II over the same trip. His form on off tracks is perfect with two wins from as many outings and that sits him in good stead here. He loves to lead all the way and is conditioned to the minute by astute trainer desperado3<\/I><\/B>. There is plenty to like about this guy and there is no doubt he is a top chance in this race. 9 – TITLE DEFENSE(KY) \u2013 futurestar<\/I> \u2013 5\/2<\/SPAN><\/STRONG> (AWESOME AGAIN x KINGMAMBO x STORM CAT) V Townsend ( 330 – 33 – 44 – 34 – 10% ) This four year old is the big dog of this field and clearly the one to beat. He boasts a turf long ranking of third on the planet and that alone is pretty imposing. He has had twenty six career starts for twelve wins and has amassed a staggering ten million dollars in stakes money. He is a genuine Grade I regular who is always thereabouts and who has raced once on an off track for one win. He like to sit mid-field and run over the top of them and we can expect to see that again here today. The one to beat.
