The Monster Mash is making is being raced for the second straight year in Portugal<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Last year, the race was run on a fast surface, but that did not stop Dead Zone from winning in a high speed of 112.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This year, the track conditions will be fast for the mile and \u00be race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Several horses in this field are capable of running speeds of 112 or higher, so Dead Zone\u2019s speed record is in jeopardy.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Three year olds and up are eligible for this G1 race and the competition includes:<\/P>

1\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Past Denials\u00a0 <\/SPAN>7-1<\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Past Denials put in a career best effort in his last start, a lower grade stake race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He went 12f with a speed of 112 running out of real estate with a late charge and had to settle for second.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>That was also his longest race of his career.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Past Denials adds another quarter mile and he should handle the extra distance without difficulty.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This is also his first graded race which is always a concern, but I feel he has upset potential.<\/P>

2.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Stormonthehorizon\u00a0 <\/SPAN>6-1<\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Storm is also adding some distance and trying 14f for the first time.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s appeared in two graded races (one on dirt and turf each) finishing well back in each.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>From September 2009 through May 2010 Storm won 7 consecutive races at the primarily at the allowance level with a pair of races with speeds over 110.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s capable of hitting the speed that will be required to win this race, but his performance in the graded level needs some polishing.<\/P>

3.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Seattle<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in Awe 6-1<\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

In 4 graded starts, Seattle<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in Awe has one win and two forths.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He comes in off a non-graded stake race win; defeating Past Denials in the same race (12f) with a speed of 113 (career best).\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Seattle<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> has only one race below a speed of 100, that being a maiden race early in 2009.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has excellent breeding and tons of untapped potential.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Hard to tell if he\u00a0 <\/SPAN>will rise to the occasion in this race.<\/P>

4.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Board of Governors\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>13-1<\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Board of Governors brings a 3-race win streak into this race, which includes his sole graded start (g3) which he won at 11 furlongs with a speed of 104 in his most recent start.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has never gone further than 11f, thus added 3 more poles to pass by in this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The last race was easy, as he wasn\u2019t challenged in his gate-to-wire run.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He loves to run on the lead and will need to fight Haack Attack in this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I don\u2019t think he\u2019ll have thing his way this time out.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

5.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>As Wells Mambo\u00a0 <\/SPAN>27-1<\/SPAN><\/P>

The old timer in this race is the 8-year old As Wells Mambo.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has won 11 races over his 38 career starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In 6 graded starts, he has finished 2nd<\/SUP> twice.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His speeds have been on the low side, hitting 100 once since this past January.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s had a good career, but hd just doesn\u2019t look to be up to the demands of graded racing anymore.<\/P>

6.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>My Destingy\u00a0 <\/SPAN>5-1<\/SPAN><\/P>

My Destiny comes off a monster second in a non-graded stakes, running 11f in a speed of 116.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has 7 graded stake races under his belt with a record of 1-1-1.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It should be noted that the three \u201cin-the-money\u201d races were in his four most recent graded starts, showing vast improvement.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The one graded race, in his last 4 graded starts, where he was off the board was in a 16f race which may have been too far for him.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has not tried 14f before, but 12f seems to suit well.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019m throwing out the 16f, as I believe he just ran a bad race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He shined in his last start and this late closer will be one to fear.<\/P>

7.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Marengo\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>4-1<\/SPAN><\/P>

Marengo is tagged as the favorite in this race and after his last performance, it makes some sense.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He ran in a non-graded stake race, going 11 furlongs and dominating his way to the wire with a two-plus length victory with a lightning speed of 119.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>2010 has been a great season with Marengo boasting a record of 4-2-2 in 8 starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019ll probably lay off the lead and close hard.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He won on this track almost a year ago and will be a contender.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Only concern\u2026this is his first graded race start.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>But his last 6 races are speeds of 105 and higher, with three over 110, which still makes him a contender. <\/P>

8.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Now pray 17-1<\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

At the end of 2009, Nowpray won a pair of graded races at a 2-mile distance.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>2010 has not been a good season for this horse, at least in stake races.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>5 starts (includes graded & non-graded), Nowpray hasn\u2019t been close to hitting the board.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s gone distance from 12f up to 16 during this season.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He does have two wins this year, both in allowance races.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s struggling too much this year to support in this race.<\/P>

9.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Haack Attack\u00a0 <\/SPAN>9-1<\/SPAN><\/P>

An experienced contender in this race is Haack Attack, who has won 17 races in 45 lifetime starts, and in the money 31 times.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has 6 graded starts with a record of 1-2-0.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>he has four starts on this track and a record of 1-1-1, much of it as a 2-year old.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Haack likes to set the pace and will be challenged by Board of Governors for this spot.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>But it\u2019s been a long time since Haack has hit a speed over 110, and that looks like the benchmark needed to win this race, making him look unlikely. <\/P>

10.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Irius\u00a0 <\/SPAN>11-1<\/SPAN><\/P>

Irius had a slow start in his racing career, hitting the board twice in his first 10 starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Since that start, he\u2019s hit the board 16 of his last 19 outings.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has won his last 3 races, most recently his sole graded race (14f, G3) which he established his career speed record of 110.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s been racing well, but hasn\u2019t raced a field of 10 or more horses since early 2009.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Past history shows that Irius has struggled in larger fields, but with an asterisk\u2026those races were around a mile or less and in his 1st<\/SUP> 10 career starts before he found the liking to routes.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Longshot players may like this one.<\/P>

This horse is very diversified, able to run successfully on both dirt and turf.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Thirty Four in Red has raced 14 times in graded races (both surfaces) and a record of 4-4-2.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His last start on the dirt was in June where he finished 2nd<\/SUP> in a G1 race at 14 furlongs with a speed of 112.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Thirty Four in Red is a master at the 14f distance, hitting the board in all but one of his 12 career starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Do not ignore in the exotics!<\/P>
