This is the main trial for the world’s best race The Arc. The fact the winner of that race has run in the race in the five times in the last ten years shows the quality of horses that run in this race each year.

Some of the past winners that have done well at stud are as follows.

Bering – I dealt with this horse earlier in the year and all the comments then are still relevant. It is worth noting that since then his dam sire reputation has gone even higher. Harbinger is highly likely to be rated the best horse in the world in 2010.

Trempolino – still active at stud was downgraded in the sim a few years ago. That was fair as a sire. As a dam sire he although has a far better record 17 wins in the past 7 season is not too bad. He still ahs something to offer in this area and works well with Danzig line sires.

Hernando – he was a good race and is a decent sire. !4 graded wins in the last 7 years is not bad. If we consider crop sizes his real life ones are around 45 with at least 10 of those being bred for jump racing that looks even better. He should be capable of siring a couple of graded winners per year in the sim of crop sizes of around 50. He has a high stamina index and should be one of the better sources of long distance turf runners in the game, better than Dynaformer that is for sure which is not the case at present.

Montjeu – As mentioned several times in the past he is one of the leading sires in the world. He has had 7 graded winners this year putting him just outside the top 10. He also has a couple of crops with low foal numbers due to an injury in the covering shed. This has lead to the fact he is not in the top 10. In terms of horses that have been in the frame in graded races in 2010 only Galileo and Danehill Dancer have had more. 21 graded stakes horses in one season is a very good feat. Compare that to Awesome Again 6 shows you something considering the sim thinks that horse is a better sire.

Sinndar – he was a really good racehorse but has not done so well as a sire. He is though capable of siring graded winners still. He is another source of stamina. From a full crop of horses he should be able to get two graded winners on average.

Sulamani – is not up to much as a sire. He did get a classic winner from his first crop but very little else. He would be capable of getting around 1 stakes winner per crop and in truth is about the same in terms of class as North Light. Interestingly one of his sons won the same classic this year.

Dalakhani – has done well at stud so far. He suffers from not having massive crops. His percentage of graded winners and stakes winners per runners is very good. He has sired 12 graded winners so far Mineshaft who retired the same year has 6. Look at their sim records to see the one that got badly treated in the sim and deserves an upgrade. He has also received better mares since his first runners hit the track which should hold him in good stead going forward.

Hurricane Run – is a first crop sire. He has a few decent runners so far. He has one graded place horse so far. His offspring should appreciate a trip of 10f+ in time. As with his own sire Montjeu expect them to improve as they get older.

Rail Link – by Dansili from a good Juddmonte family so has the pedigree to be a stallion. His first yearlings arrive this year. It would appear they will need time and I expect as with many Juddmonte sires the home bred horses will do best to start with.

As for the pedigrees in the runners in this year’s race they are as follows:-

Cape Cross-Kris-Mill Reef
Danehill Dancer-Giant’s Causeway-Lear Fan
Intikhab-Barathea-Law Society
Neo Universe-Machiavellian-Bustino
Footstepsinthesand-Unfuwain-Iron Duke
Monsun-Ela-Mana-Mou-Elektrant
Sadler’s Wells-Peintre Celbre-Lear Fan

KING KAJINSKYHA (JPN) KING KAMEHAMEHA (JPN) x SEATTLE SLEW x NIJINSKY II (CAN)

This horse’s sire was a very good race horse in Japan. He was though a long way from top class arou8nd 10lbs. his offspring have sold well in Japan and he has a dual fillies classic winner from his first crop. Before you get to excited that filly will not make the international classifications and is a long way short of group class in Europe or Australia. It is fair to say Mike has grossly over rated sires from Japan in general and they need a big down grade as a group. The ability of their horses was shown up in this race in real life last weekend. A top Japanese horse slammed by 10 lengths by horse not fully wound up. This fellow is a very good horse and has been running well in graded 3yo only races at 10f wining one as well. He tries a step up in trip here and has the ability if he handles the distance to make the frame.

SEVENTH SENSE (IRE) MONTJEU (IRE) x KINGMAMBO x NIJINSKY II (CAN)

It is finally in the public domain that Kingmambo has been not active as a sire for 2 years now. Yet will have 300 foals in the sim compared with 3 in real life. In real life his only graded stakes winner s this year are 5yo’s so it is air to say he has been dead in the water for a long time. He is the dam sire of Midday and three other graded stakes winners this year over the last 7 years 24 winners of graded races. He is massively over rated a s a dam sire in the game and needs a reduction in his ability of around 50% mind saying that so does Seattle Slew and many others. Mike really needs to have a look at his area when he has time. The fast majority of stallions have lower percentages as dam sires than as sire. As a rule of thumb maybe it should be 20% lower than sire ability when active. This horse is top class and a dual classic winner though ran in a really strange race last time. It should be easier for 3yo’s to run against older horse in the sim after July just as in real life. He has the class and ability to win this race and unless he bounces he has to have a very good chance in this race.

A.P. POPULAR (KY) A.P. INDY x GALILEO (IRE) x GREEN DANCER

There is not a lot to say about this horses sire than to state the fact he sucks outside the USA and his turf record is poor his best offspring in Europe have won no better than at grade 3 level. He has had some success in the US on turf but those horses form fall well short of grade 1 level and are in fact all worse horses than the Japanese sire above. In sim world A P Indy should not be siring grade 1 or 2 turf horses. This horse has a great record and is up to this class of race. He has not won over 12f but shown top class form and has won a graded race over 10.5f. He therefore has the ability and class to run well here the question I wonder is this his optimum trip. He has obvious place claims.

CAN U FEEL IT (ENG) DUBAWI (IRE) x KINGMAMBO x KRIS S.

Dubawi is the hottest second crop sire in the world and looks a real outstanding prospect at stud. His second crop are also doing well so it is not a flash in the pan. You would expect him to receive a massive upgrade at the start of next year in the sim. He is what the sim though Ghostzapper would be. His race record said he would be a grade 1 winning 2yo and multiple grade 1 winning 3yo against older horses. This is the sign of a horse that has a far better chance than most of making it as a stallion and so it has proved in his case. It does seem strange the Czech Derby gets grade 3 billing in the sim when it is about the level of a class 4 handicap and the world oldest Classic race the St Ledger a proper grade 1 race only gets a sim grade 2 this is just wrong. If you run the Czech Derby have it as a 35,000 claim race its class level. This horse looks interesting as he likes the trip and is on the upgrade. If he is ready for a filed like this is another matter but he may well improve to this level next year. Interesting prospect but cannot be fancied today.

SANDOR (ENG) NEW APPROACH (IRE) x KRIS S. x DANEHILL

This horse’s sire is at present time a better potential sire than Sea The Stars and it would be no surprise to see him achieve like Dubawi has just look at his race record. Unbeaten grade 1 winning 2yo classic winning multiple grade 1 winning 3yo including open age grade 1 races. He was also the joint top rated horse in the world as a 3yo. He has an outstanding pedigree as well. He would appear underrated at present but then it can easily be argued that tall unproven sires at the top end are overrated given past experience. This horse has a great record so far. He is a graded winner over 10f. He tries 12f for the first time will it suit, on breeding it should do but you never know in the sim. He has strong claims if the trip suits.

OUTBACK ANDY (KY) STREET CRY (IRE) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x DANZIG

Street Cry is doing an outstanding job at stud so far. He is doing far better in America as would be expected as he was a dirt horse. His only graded winner in Europe this year is a nice 2yo from an excellent family of the late Gerald Leigh in truth that is where most of the horse’s ability comes from hence why his bloodstock was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed on his death. The other factor to consider is that Street Cry is not a source of stamina he has 28 graded winners of those only 3 have won at 12f or more and two of those were in South America (not top class horse racing) the other was in Australia where horses seem to be able to handle varied trips better. He therefore should be a sprinter miller type sire in the sim especially on turf. This horse has a great record so far unbeaten on turf. He steps up in trip a massive amount and in class. Both may not suit given the lack of stamina in the back end as well. You could not put money on this horse but he may surprise looks an outsider though in a very good field.

EMPIRE PARK (FR) WALK IN THE PARK (IRE) x EMPIRE MAKER x DANEHILL

This horse’s sire had ability but had more mental issues. He only won once and ended his racing carrier being beaten out of sight over hurdles the facts are even though second in the Derby he has no real prospects as a stallion unless over jumps. He is in all truth a skid sire whatever he is bred to on the back end. This is a decent horse that has won at graded level over the distance he was well beaten in a stronger filed after. He has the ability to run a place but if all the players turn up he will find it hard work.

As for my selections;-

1 Seventh Sense
2 A.P.
