There are many tips and tricks to breeding a local bred horse. First you want to look at the kind and type of local breeds available. Some like PA breeds have lots of races available to them but also much tougher competition. MD breeds, however, are few and far between. So a good plan is to look ahead in the game and see what regions have many Local Breed races available before you go breeding a horse.

So once you decide on a region, you can create your horse. As an example let’s go with the Northwest US (e.g., OR, WA, ID) for our local bred horse. When choosing the pedigree, we can use the same methods as we would for bargain breeding with a few little twists. The primary twist in creating a local bred is choosing a sire that stands in the area you want to use. There is a new feature for the Horse ticker that allows you to filter for sires in specific areas. The ticker allows you to look up a horse by name. However, if you look below there is a box for Standing. That shows where a sire is located and allows you to search only sires in that region. So if you put “ID” in there and select “breed 2 and 3 year olds” in the box below, you can obtain a list of sires available to use that stand in Idaho.

The other trick I have is using the stallion register at Bloodhorse.
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/thoroughbred-breeding/sire-lists/general/idaho to see which Idaho sires are producing the best. Now here is the trick. You can look at that list and you notice some big name sires as the sire of the horse standing there. Gone West, Giant’s Causeway, by picking one of those sires that generally produce well for you or produce well in the sim you have a better chance of a nice horse. Giant’s Causeway has a son standing in Idaho named Cuz Ur Mine. He is 750 dollars to breed which is super low even in the region.

In the horse ticker, Cuz Ur Mine is 157 points currently (Monday) he will be super cheap end of week but he is the most expensive sire because he is what people use. Remember, the sire’s cost has to do with how many offspring they have in the game. The more offspring and the better they do, the higher the cost and the longer it stays there. The other top sire is Reversal (Gone West X Nureyev), he is 121 at this point. So a little tip is look on Bloodhorse for those with good breeding that generally produceswell in the sim. When you find them they may be super cheap in their region not because they are bad but because no one knows they are there. So you can find an excellent cheap sire that produces well.

Remember though, breed for a specific region, and the better the back end likely the better your horse will do. If you want to use a mare that is probably the cheapest way to go, breeding from scratch works too. There is also the random breed feature which can allow you to breed local breeds by picking a location. So you can request a random breed LB and get it at a discount. These horses are generally LB claimers but you never know I see people with open allowance winners that were random local breds.

There are other ways to acquire local breed horses. If you look there are lots of local breeds for the 4+ age group that are often empty because there is no one to run in them. So if you keep an eye on claims and in the auction you can find older horses that may not be able to hack it even in claimers that could be competitive in these races. One allows you to make some points, your investment is minimal. Then you don’t have to worry about breeding or losing the horse. If you are doing this, look ahead 3-4 weeks and see if there is a race available to run them in.

As more and more people figure out local breed racing it will become more competitive but this is a good way for a horse to stay useful longer and for people to earn points with horses that won’t cost a lot and are cheap to breed.

[5

post-8434","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-breeding
["GET
