We have a special week on this island, one stakes, one graded three, one graded two and one graded one. I will do the cover of the graded two race. Its a mile race on the green grass. The race is for Fillies and mares that are 3 years old or above. There are 14 hungry ladies that are here for the $400,000 in price money. Name of the race is The Mother Stakes and many of these mares may be mothers within the next years or they may end up racing several more years.

1. MADCAP BANDITA (8/1)(AWESOME AGAIN x DANZIG x GONE WEST):This 5yo mare with Awesome Again as sire and Danzig as damsire will have a good chance in this race, she will probably not be a horse that will start with strong speed, she is more of a spurter and if the race is right for her she may come really strong at the end. Last race was a graded 2 that she won doing 112 on turf 8,5 furlongs long. She is a bit uneven and from time to time and if the speed is right and she have a decent position after 4-5 furlongs she will be up for it.

2. EL GATO AGUDO (14/1)(SHARP HUMOR x STORM CAT x NIJINSKY II):This Sharp Humor sired mare needs to do something extra to win this race, she have never won a graded race, but have a few stakes wins. Her best distance is 8 furlongs, but she haven’t moved to graded speed yet. She have never been top-3 in graded, could this be the time now? Sometime it could, but as I said before she would need something special to win.

3. LEAD ACTRESS (7/1)(THEATRICAL x ROBERTO x LYPHARD):The second oldest mare in the race, six years, ranked 11th placed in her group. She have been running for many years now, but didn’t start until she was three. She have made some good money over the years and seems to be a horse that gets into good form a few races in a row. She is coming off two wins in a row in graded stakes, will she make a third? I think so, this is my winner of the race. She have what it takes and a great pedigree.

4. NORTHERN PULP (11/1)(PULPIT x NORTHERN DANCER x BUCKPASSER):The oldest horse of the race, seven years and still going strong! Have made an impressive 48 starts and won 21 of them, in another 12 of them she have been second or third. She is one of the candidates to be top-3, but her form haven’t been that amazing the last races. It was also 1,5 years since she won a graded race as well. She managed to win a stakes last year and only made three starts this year so far. Does this Lady have some good speed left? We will see, this could be one of the mares going to breeding soon if she doesn’t start performing.

5. BITTERBLOOMS (9/1)(DANEHILL DANCER x MISWAKI x MILL REEF):This 4yo by Danehill Dancer have won 9 starts of the 22 in total. She have won graded 1 race and will be up for the first place in this race. The weakness seems to be that she is a bit uneven, but she made a really nice 113 two races ago, so she have really good speed, she just need a good performance to make it. She will be one of he horses going for the lead from the start.

6. BEST THERE IS (11/2)(KING’S BEST x DIESIS x SADLER’S WELLS):One of the mares that had trouble winning the last year and only have 1 win over the last 12 months, she also made her debut on dirt earlier this year, but it seems like she like it best on the grass. Last 2 starts have not been that great for her coming sixth and eight, so will her form be better this race or will her poor streak continue? I think she have a chance, but I believe that there are better horses with a better spurt.

7. GUINEAS TOAST (12/1)(KINGMAMBO x NIJINSKY II x NUREYEV):A Kingmambo sired mare can’t be wrong in a mile race on the turf. She have won two grade 1 races before and seems to be performing extra good sometimes, but is a bit slow sometimes as well. Just 2 starts ago she won a grade 1 doing 111 on the same race conditions as this one. Last race was a bit longer and she only did 89, will she be able to turn that race into a good form or will she continue struggling.

8. VITELLI (16/1)(PIVOTAL x DUBAI MILLENNIUM x DANEHILL):This mare is one that have struggling to reach graded level and even struggled to reach stakes level, she won her first stakes race last race, doing 104. The question will also be if she have what it takes to do 8 furlongs, she haven’t been that solid yet and she only started performing really solid speed a few races ago.

9. GOLDBUG (15/1)(KINGMAMBO x EMPIRE MAKER x EL PRADO):The mare with fewest starts in the field. She only made 10 starts, but winning 6 of them still makes her a horse for the top-3 positions. She only made one start as 3yo, then she moved to allowance class and started to improve her speed, she won her stakes debut and have another stakes win as well, but have not been able to move to graded topclass yet, this will be her third start in graded.

10. DOUTE’S LIGHT (12/1)(REDOUTE’S CHOICE x FANTASTIC LIGHT x DEPUTY MINISTER):Another one of the light raced horses and the only horse foaled in Australia in this race. She have made 14 starts, winning 5 of them, 2 stakes. No graded win yet, but came in second in a graded 2 races a few months back. Does she have what it takes to go to the next level? She will be up for it and haven’t really been tested enough on the distance, she can still improve there.

11. REIGN IN HADES G (8/1)(E DUBAI x FORESTRY x SEATTLE SLEW):35 starts and winning 10 is a good racing career! She made incredible 9 starts as 2yo and had really a good career just after she was done as 2yo. She continued with a good 3yo season and moving into the 4yo as a really good mare, she have made a lot of starts already and will she continue to improve she can probably stay in the finest races in the next couple of years.

12. CADASI (8/1)(CAPE CROSS x DANSILI x SIR TRISTRAM):One of the mares that haven’t started that many races yet. Started racing as 3yo and didn’t really produce fantastic numbers, she didn’t beat the 100 speed mark before she turned four, but she did it in her first race as four years of age. After she completed the 100 mark she haven’t been below and in the last race, that was a stakes race she did a really nice 115 and won her first stakes. I think she have what it takes for the next level and we can see steady improvements of her running all the time. I have her as my third placed horse in this race.

13. KHARTOUM XIV (9/1)(SADLER’S WELLS x DEPUTY MINISTER x SECRETARIAT):This is the mare with the pedigree that I like the most of the 14 horses in the race. Sired by my favorite Sadler’s Wells of the mighty Coolmore Stud in Ireland. The problem with this mare is that she haven’t started turf mile before. She have made 2 starts on mile on dirt, but that was long time since. She have been running a bit longer before and if she can adapt to the mile she will be dangerous for the others. I have her as my outsider of the race.

14. ULTIMATE MACHINE (7/1)(PIVOTAL x A.P. INDY x DANZIG):This four year old mare have been really impressive since one year back, she haven’t been below the 100 speed figures and I doubt that will happen in this race. She started with good racing as a 2yo and in the beginning of age 3 she was tested on different surfaces and lengths of the race. When she was moved to the mile or a bit around the mile she have been really good. Haven’t won a stakes yet, but I see the potential is there, she just needs the right race. She is my 2nd placed horse in this race.

This is the toughest fields I have tried to do a preview of, I am willing to say that all horses in this field have a chance of winning and that is what makes this field really interesting, everyone can win! It will be up to the horse with the best form for the day and maybe the smartest jockey. All these horses have amazing pedigree and will all be good mares for breeding when that day has reached them, there are still a few young mares in this race, but maybe the older mares will be considered going in to breeding if they fail this and a few more starts.

Seven horses from Kentucky and seven from the rest of the world. The battle between the oceans has started once more.

This will be the top 3 from my view and I also have my outsider for the race:
1. LEAD ACTRESS
2. ULTIMATE MACHINE
3.
