The field of 12 will fight for the majority share of the $500,000 prize and the prestige of a Grade 1 win.

1. SIGNS OF CHANGE (KY) 4 year old colt (Dynaformer X Storm Cat X Alydar) This horse is trained by Eml1, and at 6/1 is at good odds. He has shown he can handle 16 furlongs though if you look at his last 7 I see his 14 furlong races are very dominating. His 16 furlong races he has managed an allowance win by 5 lengths, an absolute embarrassment of the field. A 2nd in the G2 Baltimore and then a 4th last time out in G3 Jacksonville. His 108 speed is great for this distance and if he can pull that off should do well here. Again, I do not think this is his preferred distance but even it not being the favorite of his it may not matter much.

2. WRISKY CAT (KY) 6 year old horse (Storm Cat X Dynaformer X Pleasant Colony) This horse is trained by Tcrowell, this colt just started long routes. His last three races have been at 14 furlongs. His first two an allowance and a G3 resulted in wins with 111 speeds. His last start was also at 14 furlongs where he ran a fading third in a G1 to SIGNS OF CHANGE. However, it looks like he might have been hurt in that race as it has been over 2 months. He won the first two 14 furlongs so impressively, over three length wins each, that I don’t think this distance will be a problem. However, some horses take a race to come back. If that is not the case this one is a monster.

3. LOCHGILPHEAD (KY) 4 year old colt (Giant’s Causeway X Kingmambo X Buckpasser) Trained by Kilmory, this allowance runner is making the jump to graded. He has won his last two races going 13 and 14 furlongs each and with a 105 and 102 speeds. Both wins were in restricted allowance races. He has never gone 16 furlongs and I am not sure if that is too far or not. I would have liked to see a stakes attempt before taking on this level of competition. He has a shot and is bred well, so good luck and here is hoping he loves the distance and relishes the jump in class.

4. BEASTER (KY) 4 year old colt (Street Sense X Danzig X Awesome Again) This horse is trained by Midas trainer Larsonist, and has just made the switch to longer races this year. With very good success I might add. After a 4 length victory in a stakes race he ran 2nd in a G2 going 12, and then 2nd again in a G2 going 16 furlongs. He posted a 99 speed here which if he wants to get in the money he will need to beat. As a 4 year old I can easily see him getting that jump in speed. I am a bit surprised at his breeding getting this distance, but hey what do I really know, nothing. He has the background to do well here; he has covered the distance and could do very well here.

5. CHASE THE SKY (GB) 6 year old horse (Powerscourt X Conquistador Cielo X Raise a Native) This horse is trained by Trotter5, and I don’t know why he even bothered entering him. Just kidding my friend, this horse is the co favorite and there is little guess as to why. He won the Breeders Bowl Dirt Marathon going 12 furlongs and if that was not impressive enough for you. Two starts ago he won a 16 furlong G2 Baltimore Special with a 110 speed by almost three lengths. Then last time out romped by 4 in another G2 going 16. Beat that buckos, oh wait you cannot, my money is on this monster.

6. WISE HAACK (KY) 5 year old horse (Songandaprayer X Kingmambo X Pleasant Colony) This horse is the long shot of the race at 36/1 and is trained by Zampateste. It looks like his best race as of late came in a 16 furlong restricted allowance back in April. He won by over 5 and that was the only fast dirt 16 furlong he has run. There are some big guns in this race; he will have to improve off that run to get in the money. 5 length win says there is a chance despite what his odds say.

7. DEAD ZONE (SAF) 5 year old horse (Daylami X Darshann X Sir Ivor) Trained by Tripwire, this co favorite is also a tough guy. Winner of the 16 furlong Equinics race as well as G2 Buckeye Stayer and most recently Jacksonville G3 which he beat the number 1 horse. His speeds are good and the best is the Equinis where he won with a 110, and when he wins he wins big. So far seems like a showdown from to monster distance horses.

8. TAPIT AND BOUNCE (KY) 5 year old horse (Tapit X Rahy X Unbridled) Trained by Desimster, this colt has never gone the distance. His two longest races both 14 furlongs on dirt one was a G3 where he didn’t finish well and his last start where he finished a closing second in a G2 going 13 furlongs. I think if he can get the distance he could get there but he will need to improve speeds as well as get the distance. He does seem to get faster longer so here is hoping.

9. NECK NECK NOSE (KY) 5 year old horse (Silver Train X Gone West X Theatrical) This horse is trained by Whocares and might I asked if he was named after a race you watched. This colt was also in the Jacksonville and finished 3rd by 5 lengths with a 103 and closing. He has not won a race in over a year and even though there are lots of seconds that concerns me. He did post 112 going 14 furlongs when he finished 2nd in a G2, so there is speed there. The inconsistent tanks also concern me. I see he was rested and came back and is doing as well as he was before. Hopefully he perks up a bit more here.

10. MOON OF ENDOR (IRE) 4 year old colt (Sadler’s Wells X Dynaformer X Bold Ruler) This horse is trained by Peeps1, this well bred colt is jumping back in to stakes after a break in allowances. This horse is nice, and though I would love to say he will do well here I think he is better going 11 furlongs. All his best races and speeds have been at that distance and the 14 furlong races have been poor. His last race does give some hope but a 102 in a restricted allowance would have been better tested in another allowance. I fear he will get pummeled here. This is a tough field. He is still young and looks like he may want more ground both are pluses for this race, good luck to you!

11. AWESOME FORCE (KY) 6 year old horse (Awesome Again X Danzig X Saint Ballado) Trained by Camry, this colt has over a million dollars on both surfaces and 8 million total. He has been running graded races since mid 2 year old year and has won some very nice big races, Middle Jewel, New Yorker, Sand Castle Classic, and after a brief sojourn winning turf graded races he is back on dirt and trying a bit more distance. He has never really done more than 12 furlongs and his last graded 12 furlong race didn’t turn out to pretty. He did win the New Yorker by 2 and seemed happy there. Hopefully the added distance will be ok for him. Hate to say it but when you’re as hot as this guy was, you fade some eventually. I am astounded he lasted this long, must be excellent training and placement. His chances I think are not as good as his odds suggest but this is worth a try always hard to see an old one go, Hopefully he loves this distance and shows us that winning talent again.

12. REGAL PRINCE 7 year old horse (Mineshaft X Cozzene X El Gran Senor) Trained by Crown, this is the oldest runner in the field and might I point out aptly named by his trainer Crown. Another Jacksonville G3 starter this one however did not fare so well. He finished 6th by 35 lengths. He loves 16 furlongs and three starts ago finished 2nd in a G1 posting a 103 speed. He will really need to get moving in this race to finish at the top. I think his odds are fairly accurate despite his love of the distance the closest he has come to a win in his last 4 starts is that 2nd place where he was 7 lengths back. I don’t think 2nd place will be that far behind 1st in this race. I hope he can fire and do well over his favorite distance.

Picks
Chase The Sky – I like that he blew a monster than got an easy win, should be set to dominate
Dead Zone – very tough also, fast and dangerous could easily get up for the win. I think it will be between theses too and this is the first time I truly agreed with the odds makers.
Signs Of Change Or Wrisky Cat. I would pick Wrisky over Change if he comes off the rest well.

[2

post-8378","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
