The Mute Button GIII has been closed with just five entrants, running for a $150,000 purse ($90,000 to the winner). The race oddly enough is open to all horses three and up, who will be asked to win a six furlong turf race. I say oddly, because isn’t it the women that try to mute the tv out on the men, so shouldn’t the race be for fillies? I wonder why it is whenever I run in a graded stake it fills or is at least fairly large, yet other trainers find these light races, which guarantee at least a small purse earning.

Cvbear will saddle the first entrant, the oddly named Australia. Oddly named Australia, because he is an Irish bred son of High Chaparral out of Hijo De Kangaroo a Forty Niner mare. Australia has won nine times out of thirty-four tries, and is a listed stakes winner at six and a half furlong, and graded placed at this distance. Australia’s typical running style keeps him within five lengths of the lead. At 4/1 he comes into this race off of a win, and is facing a field that hast been slightly off form, but includes two top twenty older sprinters. To be in the mix he’ll have to replicate that last race, and be able to do it while cutting back in distance.

Pjlstable’s will send out Appropriately, a five year old son of Pulpit, out of Cat O’Nine Tails II, a Storm Cat mare. Appropriately has won seventeen times in forty tries, and is a multiple graded stakes winner at this distance, as well as longer sprints. Appropriately has been appropriately placed being the twelfth ranked sprinter in the world on the turf for older horses. Last time out in his grade one try, which he lost to fellow entrant Haack’s A.P. he failed to run to his usual form. A normal running style for Appropriately is very close to the lead, if not on the lead. Last time out either was not his day, or the trainer opted to try to stalk. Whatever the reason, it did not work and has him coming into the race with a question mark over his head. At 2/1 he is the second choice, and is facing a fairly weak field, but I only like him on the lead, as he showed he cannot come from too far off the pace.

Consorrow sends out Marsupial, a four year old son of Strategic Prince out of a Maria’s Mon mare. Marsupial has won seven times out of twenty two tries, with only a maiden win at this distance. Marsupial is a listed stakes winner at six and a half furlongs. Marsupial is another entrant who likes to push the pace, or make the pace, which could make for a speed duel with Appropriately or Mr. Universe, which could wear them down for a closer. At 7/2 even though this is not a very strong field, it is still a step up in competition from where he is used to running. This will be a heart check for sure.

Appower will saddle the most handsome horse of the field Mr. Universe. Mr. Universe is a five year old son of Rock Hard Ten out of First Edition a Storm Cat mare. Mr. Universe has nine wins in thirty four starts, and is a multiple listed stakes winner, including a win at today’s distance. Mr. Universe’s running style will add to the speed up front, making him the third horse who may be vying for the lead. Mr. Universe has produced speed figures in the low one hundreds, which may not be good enough to out sprint this field. At 5/1 he’ll have to break sharply and clear the field, if he gets caught in a speed duel there is no doubt in my mind that he will fold before the wire.

Ottico sends out race favorite, and number nine ranked turf sprinter Haack’s A.P. Haack’s A.P. is a five year old son of A.P. Indy, out of a Blushing Groom mare. With nine wins in twenty four starts, Haack is a grade one winner at six and a half furlongs, and a grade three winner at this distance. Adding to Haack’s A.P.’s appeal is the two race winning streak that he rides into this race. Haack’s A.P. has a closing running style, which can sometimes be hard to overcome in sprint races, but with this race being heavy in speed its likely that the speed will fold, and let him catch them before the wire. At 9/5 Haack’s A.P. has the form coming into this race, is the best ranked horse of the race, and has the running style that should benefit from this group of horses.

After looking over this race most likely the other entrants were scared off by the number nine and twelve turf sprinters. As the saying goes you gotta be in it to win it, so all those other horses miss out on the chance to become grader winners by passing up a light race. My choices are as follows, Haack’s A.P., Appropriately and Australia. As usual good luck to all the connections, may your horses run fast, and return to the barn safely.

[2

post-8351","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
