Normally this time of the year you’d see a full field in a grade 3 trying to get by an easy field to get those stakes points to move up the ranks towards the Breeder’s Bowl. However the Full Island which is for 3 year olds and up going a mile and an eighth on the dirt has only attracted eight due to the number one ranked older horse being entered to run.

Drawing the rail is seveii’s Mastroianni a four year old Bernardini colt out of Whos Leading Who, a Danzig mare. Winner of eight out of twenty starts, he’s been on the board a total of fourteen times. Coming into this race Mastroianni is riding a two race winning streak. Look for him to go to the lead and run like someone stuck a firecracker in him. With Mastroianni in the race the speed figure is guaranteed to be high, but whether or not he’ll be there first is the question. His speed tends to stretch well and he loves 9.5, the cut back to 9 may hurt him today. At 8/1 he could be in the mix.

Tegaan’s Carry Me Ohio a lightly raced five year old colt by Kingmambo out of Sixteen O’clock a Summer Squall mare will break from post two. With eleven wins in twenty one starts Carry Me Ohio is a pace stalker who will enjoy having some speed to run at. He comes into the race after a strong allowance win at this distance posting a 111. A few races back he came close to winning a grade 3 at this distance, but missed by a half length. At 6/1 with the speed in this race I really like the closers.

Taking the turf to dirt angle is mtkplaz2’s Vis Vobiscum a four year old son of Victory Gallop out of Robin Till Buoy a Danzig mare. Winner of six of twenty two starts he is a grade 3 winner at this distance. In the race prior to his graded win he won an allowance, so maybe fate can strike twice. Vis has a tendency to press the pace some which could be the demise of him if the fractions are too fast. At 12/1 I’m going to pass because of his running style.

Deajai2’s Boogalee will break from the middle of the pack. The five year old son of Seeking The Gold is out of Lagniappe a Danzig mare with sixteen wins in thirty seven starts. Another stalking type runner Boogalee comes into this race off of a few tough losses. How many horses run a 110 and still finish fourth? Not many, but that was at 8.5, the added sixteenth of a mile may help him out. At 3/1 the odds maker thinks he’s the one to beat, I think highly of him as well but he has had a few tough races in a row and close together, is he fresh enough?

Alypoint from the hoof hearts stable has drawn post five. The six year old son of Point Given is out of an unnamed Alydar mare. A grade one winner at a mile, he has never won going further than eight and a half furlongs. Another closing type horse, who has gotten a little bit of a freshening running last here in NJ about six weeks ago. At 7/2 he’ll have to get rolling soon enough to pull off the upset.

Wistful0’s Naked City a four year old son of Giant’s Causeway is out of On a Quest a Seeking The Gold mare has won four times out of twenty two tries Naked City is likely to go running for the lead with Mastroianni, which should spice the race up nicely. With only two wins this year both being allowance

races it seems unlikely that this 8/1 shot will do much more than get the race over quicker.

Henry Clay from gipper8’s stable will break from post seven. A five year old son of A.P. Indy he is out of Forgetful Diane a Deputy Minister mare. Winner of nine races out of twenty six outings Henry is coming into this race off of two consecutive wins, including a grade three last time out he’s looking sharp. Henry Clay will benefit from the quick speed duel up front as he lopes along saving his energy for the big close. So far at 7/2 this is my favorite of the race.

Completing the field is the number one ranked colt is bobcat’s Hecametomeinadream. Hecametomeinadream is a five year old son of Deep Impact out of an unnamed Lyphard mare. In thirty three tries he has visited the winner’s circle thirteen times. Undefeated at nine furlongs this closer looks like a winner. At 5/1 I wonder why the odds maker didn’t like this one. He is coming off of a dismal effort but that was going further than this race, and once again he is undefeated at 9 furlongs.

That’s the race a tough go for the grade three event, the grade ones may be easier this week. My choices are Hecametomeinadream, Alypoint, and Henry Clay. Good luck to all, may your horses run fast and return to the barns safely.

[2

post-8333","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
