Say you always have great luck with Unbridled’s Song. When choosing a bargain bred sire you probably want to look at using a bargain son of Unbridled’s Song.

When breeding a Bargain bred the first thing I like to do is find a sire I would love to use. I have had great luck with a sire such as Unbridled Energy. He is Unbridled’s Song X Hold your Peace. He is also 34 points currently. So I like that sire I have had good babies by him. So my next step is to look into what sires cross well with Unbridled’s Song. Most prominent is Northern Dancer, Storm Cat, and Seattle Slew. So I can either access a list of sires with Seattle Slew as their sire. Sadly, unless you’re using Pulpit or A.P. Indy I find that Seattle Slew lines are absolutely useless.

Storm Cat I find is a much better influence when bargain breeding. So in this case I will look for a sire with storm cat as the sire and Seattle Slew as the DS. This way I achieve getting all three of the top sires in there. So then I go to this website. http://www.racingwhisper.com/simfair/siresearch.asp and stick Storm Cat in the box. I then I look for horses with A.P. Indy, Seattle Slew, Pulpit in them. Then I would right click and open new tab. I first edit for the BP price make sure those fit within my needs, in this case about 60 points leaving 6 minimum for the Dam’s Dam’s Sire. I then look at each individually, their status as a Dam’s Sire.

We have 3 sires, Crowing Storm, Lake Austin, and Roaring Fever. Lake Austin has no wins as a Dam’s Sire and a 1.7k in earnings. Roaring Fever has a 50 % win and actually looks pretty good as a cheap Dam’s Sire. Crowning Storm has a decent record but produced mostly claimers. I think using Roaring Fever would be the best method. He is 35 points making my total 69. I have 31 points to play with for the Dam’s Dams’s Sire a decent amount.

So now we got Unbridled Energy X Roaring Fever. Now to find the last sire, in my mind we can use a Mr. Prospector line or something unrelated. I like using old stable influences such as Nasrullah, Princequillo, and Gallant Man. You can go about this two ways, one is the same way as the Dam’s sire going and searching by sire. But I tend to like to go to the older horse link. I find some really good sires just by looking by breeding point cost. First one I notice is Restless Native, Native Dancer influence. Nice but not quite what I am looking for. Banquet Table is by Round Table which is a son of Princequillo. I like that as a Dam’s Dam’s Sire and he is 41 points.

So my Bargain bred is Unbridled Energy X Roaring Fever X Banquet Table and his hypomating looks like this. http://pedigreereport.com/pedigreesim.asp?horse1=450037&horse2=239358&horse3=4608330 Costs 34+35+20 so 89/2=44 points. The only sire that appears on their twice is Secretariat though mare influences which is a good thing because in real life the best Secretariat horses are his daughter’s foals.

So that is my method for breeding bargains. I am going to try to do another article next week on using retired mares.

[5

post-8320","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-breeding
["GET
