Our second race on the Claiming Crown card features some of the best lower tag sprinters out there.\u00a0 <\/span>Again, we have a full field of 14 ready to shine on their one special day.\u00a0 <\/span>However, you can really sum this race down to a three horse race.\u00a0 <\/span>At almost identical odds, King Pins, Tension <\/b>and Mystic River ER <\/b>seem to have a heavy advantage over the rest of the field.\u00a0 <\/span>You really can\u2019t separate one of these three for a clear cut favorite but I\u2019ll give a slight nod with experience to Tension<\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>If you want to play the spoiler angle, Price Per Earning <\/b>and previous Graded winner Wolf\u2019s Slam <\/b>could ruin an otherwise good trifecta.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Scrappy is the best word I can think of to describe our first horse.\u00a0 <\/span>The first of two NWO<\/i> stables entries in this race, you could also refer to this type of horse a trifecta spoiler.\u00a0 <\/span>That seems to be the case lately as he\u2019s hit the board a few times at medium odds and occasionally put\u2019s up some decent speed numbers.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ll leave him off my ticket but it would be a huge payout if he hits again.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Our long shot of the day, Declare<\/b> is\u2026.well, a long shot.\u00a0 <\/span>With SP ratings in the 70\u2019s, this three year old colt would have difficulties against horses his own age and really doesn\u2019t fit well here against older competitors.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

At 12\/1 the talent pool starts to drop off fast from here on out.\u00a0 <\/span>This Deejai <\/i>trained horse is nicely bred but has been a disappointment.\u00a0 <\/span>He has two lifetime wins in 35 starts has just recently broke 90SP.\u00a0 <\/span>He comes off a dismal 8th<\/sup> place finish in a $2k starter so he\u2019ll have to show something that he hasn\u2019t had in the past to come away with anything.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Our only female entry, Price Per Earnings <\/b>has had a crafty career in her 31 starts.\u00a0 <\/span>Despite rather average to fair speed ratings, her previous connections have managed to an almost 50% ITM average.\u00a0 <\/span>She makes her debut today for her new owners Puretalent Patriots<\/i>.\u00a0 <\/span>(a name my Dallas Cowboys would like to humiliate).\u00a0 <\/span>That being said, it may take a little more than just pure talent here to find the winner\u2019s area as you need to throw in a little bit as luck as well.\u00a0 <\/span>She may have a rough going against the boys here.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Our first of two co-favorite, King Pins <\/b>is trained\/owned by one of the long time veterans Dixiecoto<\/i>.\u00a0 <\/span>He makes his debut for his connections this race after being claimed last time out for $20k but still has an active $10k tag.\u00a0 <\/span>Not a bad product from the little used New Zeland sire Pins.\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s managed to hit the board in 15 of his last 18 starts on dirt posted a lifetime best 100 SP three races back.\u00a0 <\/span>I can\u2019t see why that trend won\u2019t continue here today.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

PP 6<\/span><\/b> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>9\/1<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>IN MY EYES(KY)<\/span><\/strong><\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In My Eyes <\/span><\/b>is a bit of an anomaly in today\u2019s races.\u00a0 <\/span>He is one of just a handful of Claiming Crown entrants to run under only one set of silks.\u00a0 <\/span>Empire City Racing <\/i>has owned this horse since a two year old but now at five it\u2019s hard to see where he might fit in here.\u00a0 <\/span>You have to go back 18 months to find his last win and he hasn\u2019t broken the 90 SP mark in his last five races.\u00a0 <\/span>Although this race doesn\u2019t show a lot of blazing speed as a whole, it will take a little more in the gas tank to grab some of the $50k purse.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

PP 7<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>16\/1<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>BOTTOM DWELLER(NM) <\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

Winless in his last 21 starts, Bottom Dweller <\/b>looks to be living up to his name.\u00a0 <\/span>However, he did manage to hit the board last time out in a full field s-7500 race and posted a 90 SP in the race prior to that.\u00a0 <\/span>However, those three recent 79 SP\u2019s just seem to stand out and it\u2019s hard for me to pull away from that .\u00a0 <\/span>A noble try but I\u2019ll have to pass.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Also making his debut for a new owner, Meeses Pieces <\/b>is in desperate need to rebound to his efforts that he showed from September to April.\u00a0 <\/span>He looked strong during that stretched but failed to respond in his last two races under his new owners.\u00a0 <\/span>Perhaps the Trotter200 <\/i>stables can do bring some of that magic back.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

While not the longest shot on the board, Hannah\u2019s Delight <\/b>will struggle in today\u2019s race.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>This five year old E Dubai horse finally managed second win this past March with a record that now stands at 25 and 2.\u00a0 <\/span>Nothing on paper indicates much of a chance here compared to the favorites so he will have to prove that he belongs here.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

PP 10<\/span><\/b> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>18\/1<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>WHAT’S IT GOOD FOR(KY) <\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n

Perhaps a bit of life here with the #10 entry of What\u2019s It Good For.\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>After being traded back and forth several times between the Tsunami Stables <\/i>this War Front horse did will in his first start for the Dydalt Stables<\/i> last time out.\u00a0 <\/span>He takes a much needed drop in class from allowance to starter-allowance company so I wouldn\u2019t be surprised to see him improve in his second start for his new connections.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Our second co-favorite, Tension<\/b>, gets the small edge in my book over King Pins<\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>This five year old Gulch horse is three for his last four including an allowance win.\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s had multiple 100 SP races but you have to go all the way back to March of last year to find his last.\u00a0 <\/span>However, he\u2019s still a strong competitor here and can still bring it in the high 90\u2019s.\u00a0 <\/span>He race for the Nineteen Stables<\/i> who ironically only has four stables.\u00a0 <\/span>Hmmm.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Look for him to stalk the pace.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

PP 12<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>16\/1<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>WOLF’S SLAM(JPN)<\/span><\/strong><\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Ah, the cruelty of this game.\u00a0 <\/span>It was only two years ago that the 16\/1 Wolf\u2019s Slam was a G2 winner but has fallen on hard times as of late.\u00a0 <\/span>However, he does boast the highest lifetime best speed rating of 111 but that was quite a few races ago.\u00a0 <\/span>He makes his third start for the Wolf\u2019s Den<\/i> stables but it looks like this horse is destined for a short career.\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s only managed an 85 and an 84 SP in his last two races for his new owner.\u00a0 <\/span>Is there one more race left in there?<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

PP 13<\/span><\/b> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>5\/1 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>MYSTIC RIVER ER(KY)<\/span><\/strong><\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Just ever slightly back in odds, it\u2019s hard to see much difference between Mystic River ER<\/b> and the two co-favorites.\u00a0 <\/span>It looks like a virtual lock from where I sit.\u00a0 <\/span>Racing for jdtrotter<\/i>, this horse has hit the board in nine of his last 10 races.\u00a0 <\/span>However, he has shown moments where he just doesn\u2019t have his best stuff but ran well in his last four.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Hard to call where he might place.\u00a0 <\/span>It just depends on which horse decides to show up.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

PP 14<\/span><\/b> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>12\/1<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>NASHRAN<\/span><\/strong><\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

You just have to give it up to the connections of <\/span><\/strong>Nashran<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span>Who knew that it would take 62 races for this Red Ransom horse to post a career best 98 SP but that\u2019s exactly what happened last time out.\u00a0 <\/span>Winbabywin Stables<\/i> has owned this horse since December 2004 so I think this has more to do with tough love than anything else.\u00a0 <\/span>With one win in 2 \u00bd years I wouldn\u2019t count on too much here.\u00a0 <\/span>With just about every other race before this last one posting speed ratings in the 80\u2019s, I\u2019ll have to chalk that big race down as a fluke.\u00a0 <\/span>Can you repeat?<\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
