Grade One racing returned to Queensland last Saturday with the running of both the Adelaide Derby and Adelaide Oaks. Queensland leading jockey C Wyatt had an absolute field day riding six winners including the Oaks and the locally trained 2YO ZIMZAM scored an encouraging win in race eight.<\/p>\n
ADELAIDE DERBY
WEINHARD the 2.60 favourite by Holy Bull scored a strong win to take the Colts feature for the larsonisti stable and improved his record to six wins and five placings from his 11 starts with the grey now the winner of $706,785 in stakes. Ridden by T Brett the colt settled midfield in the field of nine before starting a run to take the lead at the 800m and after a short struggle with TRESPASSING proved too strong to win by 3 lengths over that horse with CORIN running home strongly to get third.<\/p>\n
ADELAIDE OAKS
REED ROAD scored her second Grade 1 victory in the fillies version with an equally impressive performance opening up a ten lengths lead to hold on for a three and a quarter length win to give jockey C Wyatt his sixth winner of the day. This Henrythenavigator filly now has $1.44M in stakes from five winners in her ten starts for her owner worldwide. HOOHAH tried hard but had to settle for second and now has run second at her last two starts in Grade Ones. She deserves a change of luck but will have to be placed carefully to grab that deserved success in the highest grade.<\/p>\n
BEST LOCAL
For me the most impressive Queensland resident was the two year old filly ROYAL ZIMZAM who took out the juvenile maiden for fillies knocking off the odds on favourite FRANK\u2019S MEMORY. The Royal Academy filly from the zimzam stable was having only her second race start and improved her SP to 71 and could get better over longer journeys.<\/p>\n
PUNTERS CORNER
There was a number of well supported runners to score which left the bookies with a worried look on their faces going into the last race and there was no relief with the odds on chance PRISON FOOD scoring easily. The best backed horse all day was REED ROAD in the Oaks who always looked to have the race in her control.
The Pick Six almost went off with puretalent nabbing five of the six winners. Bad Luck.<\/p>\n

The feature race next week is The COLONEL EARL CHALLENGE for two year olds over 1400m on turf for $75,000. I will have a preview on the BTB later in the week.<\/p>\n
