We won\u2019t be seeing a Triple Crown winner this year in the New Yorker, but we will have the winners of the Bluegrass Derby and the Middle Jewel Stakes will be matched up once again.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Lucky\u2019s Howie, the 20-1 longshot winner in the Bluegrass<\/st1:place> put in a poor race in the second leg of the Triple Crown, not liking the off-track conditions.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>\u00a0<\/SPAN>You See LA finished a strong second in the Bluegrass<\/st1:place> and followed that up with a stronger win in the Middle Jewel.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Conditions for the mile and a half track will be fast for this dirt race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Each of these horses will be going this distance for the first time and the only filly in the race is the Middle Jewel champion, You See LA.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Last year, Jockey J. White became the first person ever to win this race twice.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His first New Yorker win came in 2000.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Mambo Heat had a horrible outing in the G2 Captain Hook, finishing last and beat by some of the entrants in this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>You can blame an off track for his poor outing, but I\u2019m not sold that was the cause.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A year ago he finished in second on an equally poor track.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Mambo Heat ran well in the California Derby (G1), taking second and missing the win by a length, capping a career best speed of 101.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Mambo has good late speed and if he can recover from the last outing, he just may be the spoiler in this race.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

As the only filly in the field, You See LA has proven herself to be a formidable foe.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She is the winner of the Middle Jewel, the second leg of the triple crown.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She came up short in the Bluegrass Derby, finishing second behind Lucky\u2019s Howie.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Jockey A Rolling is back aboard and can eek out another win with her.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Positioning will be the key for a repeat win and she looks to be the one to beat.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Just Vengeance typically runs near the front and we\u2019ll probably see him 4th<\/SUP> or 5th<\/SUP> in the early going.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s been in 8 graded races and collected purse money in each race, although he doesn\u2019t always hit the top three positions.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He comes off a third in the Bluegrass Derby where he ended four lengths back.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The distance concerns me with this horse.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In the Arkansas Derby, he lost 3 lengths in the final quarter when notching up to 9 furlongs.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In the Bluegrass<\/st1:place>,\u00a0 <\/SPAN>he drifted back 2 lengths in the final quarter when extending to 10 furlongs.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Best be cautious with this one.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Matusalem\u2019s speed in his last outing is scary, posted at 79, however, this was in a very beatable short field of allowance horses and he took an easy walk around the track to win by 5, not requiring any substantial effort.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s been doing extremely well at the allowance level, hitting the board in every race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It\u2019s the graded level that Matusalem has underperformed, finishing well back in each of his three tries.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019d take a pass here, however, it would be interesting to see how he\u2019d fare in the non-graded stake race level.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

In the non-graded Metro Ack Stakes, Summerinsaratoga put in his best speed of 101 and finished second by a head.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I think this horse will make a bid to be on the front end but I have problems seeing him last.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s inconsistent in graded racing, hitting the board once in three starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Although I love Saratoga<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, and that\u2019s my home track, I feel guilty taking a pass on this horse.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Chelokee Again has been knocking at the door, seeking his first graded stakes win.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He finished 3rd<\/SUP> in the Captain Hook, 2nd<\/SUP> in the Heat Less Stakes and 2nd<\/SUP> in the Chicago Derby.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>All three races with speeds ranging from 102 to 104.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Chelokee looks very sharp and should be a contender.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Jockey D Hogin may not be having the best of years, but a 15% winning percentage is enough to get the job done.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Prussian General took the win in the Captain Hook, which was run on this track, with a speed of 108 on an offtrack.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This was a big speed boost for Prussian, moving upwards from his prior career best of 99.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This colt is an interesting entrant considering he has never finished lower than 2nd<\/SUP> in his career and he has two wins over this surface already.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Potential upsetter.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

I\u2019m finding it difficult to get excited about Tizjazz.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He hasn\u2019t been able to break through the 100-speed level which will be necessary based on the past history of this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>With 7 graded starts, Tizjazz hasn\u2019t been able to collect a win and been on the board twice.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He does draw the post that has won the most times in this race, but still, things don\u2019t feel right to me so I\u2019ll be passing on him.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Jockey J. White has the most wins in this race of any other jockey and has selected the Bluegrass Derby winner to ride in an effort to win his third New Yorker.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Lucky\u2019s Howie stunned the Kentucky<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> crown by pulling off the upset at 20-1 but didn\u2019t do well in his pursuit of the Triple Crown, finishing well back in the Middle Jewel.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Lucky does have a checkered past of running good and bad races.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In November & December he put in a pair of poor races. \u00a0<\/SPAN>He managed to hit the board in the next two but in late February and in March, he was again off the board.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In April and the beginning of May, he found the board again which included the before mentioned Bluegrass<\/st1:place> win.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He seems to be running a pair of good and a pair of bad.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s now on the bad side which started with the Middle Jewel.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019m not liking the risk, but I always have a fondness for the Bluegrass<\/st1:place> winners.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Stars of Buda is a scrappy young horse who is an extremely slow starter and the best bet is that he will trail the field early.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He does dig in deep and can eat up the track late in the race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I like his style.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Unfortunately, his sole two races off the board came most recently.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He finished 10th<\/SUP> in the Bluegrass Derby making up some ground against the huge field of 20.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In the Arkansas Juvenile he just never found his late surge and also finished 10th<\/SUP>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Stars of Buda has talent and needs to step up to the plate.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This would be a great showcase to do it in however present form create significant doubts.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Begone Oasis has come up short in his pursuit of the Triple Crown.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In both the Bluegrass<\/st1:place> and the Middle Jewel, Begone finished well back and was not a serious threat in either race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It\u2019s hard to see that things will change in the third leg of the Triple Crown.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Top notch riders are at the track and Begone has taken on local Jockey S Israel (13% win) which makes one scratch their head as to why none of the best jockeys in the Sim circuit have ignored him.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

14.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Dancer\u2019s Secret\u00a0 <\/SPAN>11-1<\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Things were looking shiny for Dancer\u2019s Secret when he won the Felipe Alou Stakes (G1) in March with a speed of 103.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Things went down hill from there as Dancer finished off the board in the California Derby (G1), Heat Less Stakes (G2) and Middle Jewel (G1).\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Dancer has raced all but 2 races at the California<\/st1:place><\/st1:State> track and has needs to get his act together to be a serious threat.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He drew local jockey T. Bates (11% win) for the race, which tells me a lot about how the top jockeys invading the track for this weekend feel about him.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

I hate to say it, but I\u2019m in agreement with the oddmakers in this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Getting my top pick in this race is You See LA.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This filly is in peek form and has beaten many of these entrants in the Middle Jewel.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>As long as she doesn\u2019t implode, she will be tough to beat.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Prussian looks awfully good lately.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In fact, too good to ignore.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019m not going to ignore him at all.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019m making him my second selection.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Chelokee Again has good speed numbers of late and the added distance may also proof to be beneficial.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>
