I suspect for most people this is a good thing. This race is named after one of the best Jockey’s ever Sir Gordon Richards he is still the most wins flat jockey in British racing history. He also holds the world record for number of winning rides in a row 12 which included going through the card on one occasion.

The real race is run at Sandown Park this weekend on what is a good card of high class flat races and jump races. It is well worth a visit.

PIRINEOS (KY) ANY GIVEN SATURDAY x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x AFFIRMED

This horse fails the quality control checklist. Of the 11 horses entered in the real race ten have passed the checklist which means at least either their sire or dam sire ran in Europe or Australia. This is pretty common for all top class turf horse around 90% worldwide. Any Given Saturday’s first foals sold last year and the results were not good they most failed to make a profit it is no surprise to see his stud fee drop. He offers very little as a turf sire but should sire a few decent dirt horses. This horse has a good record on the racecourse so far and won a graded race over 10f last year. Therefore the trip is ideal. He has been putting up good speed figures of late as well. He is worth a place in the filed and has place prospects.

UNIVESAL COMBINE (ENG) MEDICEAN (GB) x GREEN DESERT x LYPHARD

Medicean has done ok at stud so far. He started very well and has had 13 graded winners so far He is also getting some better horses coming through which should bear fruits with his three year olds this year. This horse is trying something new in this race. He has never run beyond 9f in the past. He has a decent record in sprints as well. His breeding suggests this trip would be to far but sim requirements on pedigree are very different. In truth it is hard to fancy him trying a new trip in graded company in this race.

KINGU’S CAUSEWAY (ENG) DOYEN (IRE) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x CAERLEON

Doyen has been a failure at stud and was quickly dumped by Darley. Giant’s Causeway has seen his star fall considerably in Europe and it is very interesting that Coolmore do not appear to have any 2yo’s by him in training here for 20101. In fact outside of his firs crop when based in Ireland he has managed one grade 1 winner. This horse has been slowly getting better. He has won over the trip which is an added bonus. He was well beaten in a stakes race over 12f last time. That could have been down to the trip but may just have easily been due to class. It is hard to make out a solid case for this horse in this race.

KHLYSTI LAMILEO (SAF) DAYLAMI (IRE) x GALILEO (IRE) x WITH APPROVAL

Daylami was sold to stand as a national hunt sire in Ireland for 20101. In sim terms this means he needs to be rated a skid from now on as he will not be breeding hardly any horses to race on the flat. This horse is a graded winner over 10.5f but has not won that many races to be honest with you. He posted a big speed figure recently but then probably did not stay over 12f next time out. He has enough ability to manage a place if all the aces fall for him in this race.

PRAETORIAN PREFECT (KY) ROMAN RULER x SPINNING WORLD x STORM CAT

Roman Ruler has done well as a sire so far. Two winners of graded races from his first crop, both on dirt surprise surprise!!!!! He is likely to get better support so has a decent chance long term at stud. This horse is now six. He likes the 10f trip and has won two of his last three races posting big speed figures. The negative is that his last few tries in graded races have not been great. It is hard to imagine after 41 races he is going to get better and a place would be a good result for this horse.

MOULIN KHLYSTI (FR) SINNDAR (IRE) x MONASHEE MOUNTAIN (IRE) x NUREYEV

Sinndar has had 9 graded winners since he arrived at stud. He is probably good for one a year from a crop of about 75 live foals so could easily get 2 every other year from a full sim crop. This is because more foals do not mean the same number of top class horse bigger crops mean reduced quality. He had a grade 1 winner last year from his first French crop which is positive. This horse ran a stinker of 12f last time but can bounce back from that. The speed figures are good though in stakes company he tends to find a couple to good. In truth a win seems remote but a place is not out of the question.

KINGULEO (IRE) IVAN DENISOVICH (IRE) x GALILEO (IRE) x WITH APPROVAL

This sire a close relation of War Chant is one of the worst sires on the Coolmore banner. His sales results were not great as well. His first couple of runners in real life are not outstanding talents but can win. He had a few interesting ones on pedigree so will get a few black type runners that is for sure. The question about his long term worth is another story he could well be another Mull Of Kintyre. This horse ahs a decent record and is up to stakes company. The extra class in these races means it is harder for him but he has won at the level. His speed figures are decent as well. He does have an honest shot at making the frame here the negative factor would be the trip he may require a bit further.

NATALMAN (ENG) CACIQUE (IRE) x LAMMTARRA x THE MINSTREL

It is interesting Lammtarra is still in the sim from what I know he is still at a Darley stud in Newmarket enjoying his retirement after being purchased back from Japan. There was plenty of interest though to stand him as a national hunt sire. Cacique has his only crop racing as 2yo’s in 2010. It is therefore hard to gauge what this horse would be like on pedigree but if we look at Beat Hollow it is easy to say that Cacique would have struggled big time to achieve his sim results in real life. Beat Hollow was a far better racehorse in Europe and not a bleeder either. This horse has a good record and likes the trip. He also has an impressive list of speed figures. The main let down is his stakes form which shows he does struggle when upped in class. He still though has place claims in this field.

As for my selections:-

1Pirineo’s appears to hold a great chance
2 Natalman speed can carry him here
3 Khlysti Lamielo can run into a place

[2

post-7992","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
