This mile and a sixteenth race on the dirt course for two year old fillies has a purse of $500,000 and can be a big step up to the next level so lets take a look:

#1 BALDO HOLLANDIA trainer – rintintin, ( 11/1), Jockey – R. Case (13%), Avg Sp # (85.3)
You don’t see too many Pure Prize offspring but may be seeing a lot more if this filly keeps improving like she has. Her last trip was her first at a mile and she seemed to like it. She threw her best speed figure of 85 and finished 2nd in the Grade 3 Making the Grade Stakes. She looks ready to stretch it out and may get a piece of the board here.

#2 ESPRESSO D’ITALIA trainer – lasthope1, ( 15/1), Jockey – Q. Oliver (10%), Avg Sp # (78.8)
Trainer lasthope1 has a really nice Medaglia d’Oro colt out of Arequipa, who now has two stakes placed offspring. This will her second stakes race but the first since she has stretched things out a bit, much to her liking. The pretty grey filly won her last race, an allowance but is stepping up in class here.

#3 THINKMYWAYPASS trainer – greywolf9, (66/1), Jockey – R. Thomas (3%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
Another sprinter trying to stretch it out, this Saarland out of Chief’s Prospector filly is coming off of a long layoff after an injury in a turf race way back in week 2573. Before that she had won her maiden two previous to the turf race. She hasn’t shown the speed yet to keep up with this crew but you just never know about two year olds. I wish she had another jockey guiding her.

#4 BUDA JUSTICE trainer – keryn, ( 26/1), Jockey – K. Word (9%), Avg Sp # (77.7)
Another coupled entry, this one by trainer keryn. This pretty brown filly by Atticus out of Victory Hole has two turf wins but no Stakes or dirt trips to the winners circle. Her speeds have improved, especially since she has stretched things out but she still needs to improve to stay with this crowd.

#5 ITS YOUR CALL trainer – applefarms, ( 9/1), Jockey – C. Stams (10%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
A two time winner but never in a stakes race, this Mountain Cat filly has never run this distance and seems a bit overmatched in this race. Steady and consistent, she seems better suited for regular stakes races and has only run Graded Stakes. Her last two, she started way back and couldn’t quite catch up so the extra distance may be inviting here if she can hold on.

#6 RUDE STELLA(AUS) trainer –freeky, ( 20/1), Jockey – P. Perabo (11%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
The first half of trainer freeky’s coupling, this Aussie bred filly is by Danewin out of Cincinnati Deputy. She has only run one dirt race previously, a six furlong allowance with a small field which she won. She has won three times on the grass, twice in stakes but is making the switch here which is a bit curious. I have to wonder if she has enough speed to compete on the dirt course.

#7 FU FU MASCUS(IRE) trainer – freeky, ( 5/1), Jockey – M. Squitieri (18%), Avg Sp # (85.4)
Breeding is everything with this filly by Giants’s Causeway out of Fumascus who has already produced two stakes worthy offspring. Ad in some Fusaichi Pegasus and Northern Dancer and you’ve got a blue blood filly that can run. She has three wins and five of six in the money against some stiff competition. Her 91 speed figure two back leads this field and makers her the favorite.

#8 A.P. SADLER trainer – lostcode, (5/1), Jockey – J. Benisz (22%), Avg Sp # (84.6)
This Sadler’s Wells filly won her first two then took a bit of a step back last time out starting way back in a 20 horse field in the Grade 1 The ARSE We Win Grade 1 Too Stakes. She finished a hard charging fifth there but was still five and a half back. She needs to get back on track here to contend. With J Benisz up in the stirrups, rest assured that she will be well guided.

#9HANCOCK POND trainer – salamander, ( 6/1), Jockey – M. Harrison (12%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
One thing for sure, this Gone West filly will probably finish from WAY back as her past two races she dropped to 11th and 12th and ended up finishing just off the lead. She is stretching it out from 7 furlongs and the extra distance may be just what she needs. Four of four in the money, with two of those stakes races bodes well for this young lady. She may find the board.

 #10 GOLCONDA trainer – keryn, ( 12/1), Jockey – D. Wuerful (11%), Avg Sp # (80.4)
This lightly raced Touch Gold filly won her only race last time out, a maiden that she won easily with an 80 speed figure. My Daddy always taught me to be careful betting on a horse it’s second time out especially in their first stakes race. For that reason, Golconda makes me nervous in this outing.

#11 MOON QUEEN(SAF) trainer – sprinter, ( 6/1), Jockey – F. Cadbury (6%), Avg Sp # (88.2)
This South African bred filly in multi National with a Daddy in Victory Moon from S. Africa and a Mom and Damsire from Ireland. She already has three wins including two stakes and one of those a Grade Three. She has had a habit of yo-yoing though and this would be one of her bad races. Will that trend continue?

#12 I’VE MET BARB trainer – super30, ( 7/1), Jockey – C. Hargain (11%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
I’ve Met Barb and I like her. This Empire Maker filly has been burning up the short course and now is stretching it out over a mile. This will be her fourth stakes race in her young career and she already has a win and a second in a G3. It remains to be seen if she likes the extra distance but she seems to have had plenty left in past races.

#13 INDY CAUSEWAY(IRE) trainer –triplcrown, ( 15/1), Jockey – L. Bell (9%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
Nicely bred Giant’s Causeway that keeps improving but hasn’t quite gotten there yet. With only a maiden win and this being the first time at a mile or further, she may be looking to the future. And it looks bright from here as she looks to be a classic runner with possibly a proclivity for the grass with all of that Irish blood in her.

#14 WILDWINDS trainer – kinghaven, ( 17/1), Jockey – W. Harrison (7%), Avg Sp # (N/A)
One race and one win in the slop at Jamaica. The Budha filly out of Mother Live ran a nice race in a small field but how do you figure her in this one? A pretty young grey lady that is running over a mile on what should be a fast track all for the first time. I’ll watch along with everyone else.

It’s always tough to pick a juvenile stakes race but that is why they pay me the big bucks so here goes. I like HANCOCK POND to beat out I’VE MET BARB for third and A P SADLER sliding past FU FU MASCUS for the win.

Good luck to all runners!

Paz

[2

post-789","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
