BEGONE OASIS<\/b>, getting a textbook ride from 19-year veteran rider D Ferguson, made a big move in heavy traffic on the turn to get close, then hit the afterburners late to earn a trip to Kentucky on the first Saturday in May in the \u201cDerby Lock\u201d Grade 1 Florida Derby last weekend.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

The Oasis Dream colt’s backers in the stands were pretty excited, too; understandably because he was 10\/1 on the board.<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

An even bigger surprise at 14\/1 was the place finisher, <\/span><\/span>STARS OF BUDA<\/span><\/b>. The Fusachi Pegasus colt showed that his win last time in the G3 Scam Stakes was no fluke, and it would be no surprise to see <\/span><\/span>joanneb <\/span><\/i>get this one to the starting gate in six weeks in Louisville.<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

The two surprises on top contributed to a $378 Exacta for the happy winning horseplayers.<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Highly-regarded <\/span><\/span>FLAME OF APOLLO<\/span><\/b> closed rapidly to get the show dough, and <\/span><\/span>super8<\/span><\/i>‘s colt certainly didn’t play himself out of a plane ride to Louisville with his strong effort.<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Fourth and fifth-placers <\/span><\/span>RELAX STORM<\/span><\/b> and <\/span><\/span>WOETTE’S POTT<\/span><\/b> also have their trainers dreaming of a Derby spot after their strong efforts. <\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
