I have just got back from last week\u2019s trip to Dubai, even managed to go to the opening of the mega impressive new Meydan Race Course. It is by far the most impressive track I have been to. Just as well you can\u2019t bet in Dubai because my tips last week left a lot to be desired.<\/p>\n
On to Today\u2019s grade II sprint race from Queensland (A3) open to all horses 3yo and up over 6 furlongs. Having lived in Queensland in the past I can assure all our visitors from overseas that the slogan \u201cQueensland; Beautiful one day, Perfect the next\u201d is very fitting for this part of the world and is well worth the visit.<\/p>\n
This race coincides with the real life running of \u201cCoolmore Lightning Stakes\u201d (Group 1) in Melbourne, Australia. A major story coming out of the real life race is the running of \u201cCannonball\u201d, the first American trained horse to run in Australia. The bookies have him at 25\/1 in the opening markets and good judges believe the 1,000 metres may be a bit too short for him and give him little hope. It will be interesting to see how he runs.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s assess the form of today\u2019s 14 runners:<\/p>\n
PP#1 GONE BONKERS(KY) ( GONE WEST x STORM CAT x DANEHILL ) trained by connor1 with jockey K Damo on board. Odds: 6\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 77. Career earnings: $402,733.<\/p>\n
Lightly raced 5 year old horse with racing record of 20 starts for 7-4-1. After going through all the runners I think I like the breeding of this horse the best with the strong Northern Dancer influence on the Dam sire line and the DD sire line and by the impressive Gone West as sire. Has a highest SP#115 over 7 furlongs. Has been consistent in recent runs and whilst is yet to win at graded level must be considered among the main chances today. <\/p>\n
PP#2 MAXIMUS PRIME(KY) (EMPIRE MAKER x WOODMAN x RAISE A NATIVE ) trained by ks00003 with jockey C Wyatt on board. Odds: 6\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 14. Career earnings: $846,650.<\/p>\n
5 year old horse. Career race record of 23 starts for 8-5-3. Horse has the most earnings in the field and the second highest current ranking. Has the best jockey in Queensland over recent years on board. Has a highest SP#111 which occurred 2 starts ago in the Grade I King Kong Sprint in HK were he finished 2nd. Likes to come from the rear of the field in his races. Is a recent grade II winner in The Goldene. Is one of the main chances in Today\u2019s field and I expect him to be at least in the places.<\/p>\n
PP#3 DOWELLY’S CHOICE(AUS) (REDOUTE’S CHOICE (AUS) x SADLER’S WELLS x SEEKING THE GOLD) trained by dowelly with jockey J Dowell on board. Odds: 12\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 363. Career earnings: $203,350.<\/p>\n
5 year old horse; career record of 26 starts for 6-7-1. Nice to see such a well bred Australian horse in Queensland. Trainer is a resident of Queensland Racecourse and has 2 runners in this race the other being Hamilton Island. This is the more fancied of his two runners. Has a highest SP#111 over 7 furlongs. Usually comes from towards the rear of the field in his races. Has won 2 of previous 3 starts in weaker company. Expect him to be flashing home at the end and right in the finish. I would love to see another Queensland resident win this race but the competition may be slightly too tough today.<\/p>\n
PP#4 DICK BUTKUS(KY) (DYNAFORMER x DISTORTED HUMOR x KINGMAMBO) trained by windycity with jockey GLawson on board. Odds: 7\/2. Turf sprint ranking: 6. Career earnings: $764,500<\/p>\n
6 year old horse, whose race record is 34 starts for 14-6-5. Pre post favourite. Has strong recent form including win in Grade II Church Mound Stakes in NZ. Highest SP#114 was recorded in last start stakes win. Has the best current ranking in the field. Even though I am an Aussie I have still heard of what a great tough NFL Player Dick Butkus was for the Chicago Bears. Well bred horse that deserves his favourite status and looks the likely winner on recent form.<\/p>\n
PP#5 THE FEARING(KY) (KITTEN’S JOY x KRIS S. x THEATRICAL(IRE)) trained by elenalag with jockey J Ustin on board. Odds: 10\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 340. Career earnings: $233,540.<\/p>\n
6 year old horse. Race record stands at 36 starts for 8-7-4. Has a highest SP#112 over 6 furlongs but this occurred in late 2008. Has been consistent in recent starts but does not have winning form. Sire has great real life race record with 9 wins and 4 seconds from 14 starts and first crop has been promising in real life. <\/p>\n
PP#6 TUESDAY JOY(KY) (HENNY HUGHES x AWESOME AGAIN x UNBRIDLED’S SONG) trained by quiggy2 with jockey L Lang on board. Odds: 20\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 324. Career earnings: $151,101<\/p>\n
4 year old Mare. Race record is 19 starts for 6-2-6. Only female in today\u2019s field. I like the breeding of this horse. I am really looking forward to seeing how the first crop of Henny Hughes goes in real life, his record in the sim is strong. This mare has yet to win a stakes race and has a highest SP#104 over both 5.5 and 6 furlongs. Has ability but might find this too tough against the males.<\/p>\n
PP#7 BERT’S PROSPECT(ENG) (BERTOLINI x PULPIT x MR. PROSPECTOR) trained by millerfar5 with jockey M Cameron on board. Odds: 9\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 36. Career earnings: $428,452.<\/p>\n
6 year old horse. Race record is 35 starts for 11-7-5. Has a highest SP#111 over 6 furlongs. Sire is lightly used in the sim and is by Danzig. In real life the sire has reasonable success siring 180 winners including 6 black type winners. Horse won Grade II \u2013 Railroad handicap in NZ last start over 6 furlongs. I always say winning form is good form and I expect him to be in the money again.<\/p>\n
PP#8 ROMAN DYNASTY(KY) (ROMAN RULER x SPINNING WORLD x SAINT BALLADO) trained by sportnwood with jockey T Brett on board. Odds: 17\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 1193. Career earnings: $103,726.<\/p>\n
5 year old horse having 23rd race start, record is 7-3-3. Horse has never run in a stakes race previously and was once in a claiming race. Majority of career has been on the dirt but appear to like the turf slightly more. Has a highest SP#108 over 6.5 furlongs which was achieved two starts ago. Stepping up in class steeply and will be interesting to see how he performs. On form I prefer others.<\/p>\n
PP#9 HAMILTON ISLAND(ENG) (RAINBOW QUEST x GREEN DESERT x KRIS S.) trained by parramatta with jockey T Phillips on board. Odds: 15\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 639. Career earnings: $140,644<\/p>\n
6 year old horse. Record from 23 starts is 4-4-4. Previous start was in Queensland in a QLD residency race. Is having 6th start at his home track but has yet to win at this course. Stakes winner with a highest SP#108 over 7 furlongs. Well bred lightly raced 6 year old. Most recent form suggests that this may be a bit too tough. <\/p>\n
PP#10 KOWTOWN LOU(FL) (COWTOWN CAT x MISWAKI x CAPOTE) trained by coqui with jockey A Boyington on board. Odds: 99\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 152 (3 year olds). Career earnings: $45,880.<\/p>\n
3 year old colt having first start as a 3 year old. Youngster of the field. Had 3 starts as a 2 year old for 1-1-1. Has been placed twice at stakes level. Highest SP# 87 over 6.5 furlongs. Pre post outsider in the field at longs odds. Sire in real life has not had any runners and will be interesting to see how his offspring perform. In the sim Cowtown Cat had a reasonably good first crop and is usually available below 70 breeding points at the end of the week.. Hard to pick based on previous form and will not have my money.<\/p>\n
PP#11 SPAWN OF THE DEVIL(IRE) (DANEHILL DANCER (IRE) x KINGMAMBO x STORM CAT) trained by tihsho with jockey M Radke on board. Odds: 12\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 46.

4 year old colt; race record 20 starts for 5-4-2. Strong recent form with 2 second placing\u2019s at Grade II level in last 4 starts. Has highest SP#110 over 6 furlongs. Sire Danehill Dancer has proved in real life to be a strong producer of winners and has a good record in the sim. Well bred colt who has been improving in recent times, should be right in the finish.<\/p>\n
PP#12 REZURRECTION(KY) (DAYJUR x STORM CAT x SEPTIEME CIEL) trained by dog with jockey S DeBerg on board. Odds: 10\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 19. Career earnings: $561,172<\/p>\n
5 Year old horse with record of 32 starts for 8-9-5. Is looking for first graded win after previously being placed at Grade I, II and III levels. Has a highest SP#114 over 6 furlongs. From past performances appears to run best from the front. Last few starts has been a bit disappointing. If can recapture his best form he will be right there in the finish.<\/p>\n
PP#13 POGOPTICAL(KY) (FIRST SAMURAI x STORM BOOT x CHIEF BEARHART) trained by poggendorf with jockey P Wildey on board. Odds: 12\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 299. Career earnings: $198,171.<\/p>\n
5 year old horse. 25 previous starts has yielded a record of 7-5-3. Having first start at grade level but is a stakes winner. Has a highest Sp# 107 over 7 furlongs. Breeding has a heavy influence of Storm Cat. Has a mixed racing style; can either come from the rear of the field or be a frontrunner. Is moving up in class from recent runs and I prefer others on recent form.<\/p>\n
PP#14 ONE SIZE FITS ALL(AUS) (GREY SWALLOW (IRE) x A.P. INDY x STORM CAT) trained by hansg with jockey O Alexander on board. Odds: 13\/1. Turf sprint ranking: 248. Career earnings: $617,770.<\/p>\n
4 Year old colt with 21 starts for a record of 6-6-3. The second Australian bred horse in the field. Sire in real life was an Irish Derby winner. Won at Grade III level as a two year old. Has a top SP# 106 over both 6 and 6.5 furlongs. In last 4 starts all at stakes level has 1 win, 2 second placing\u2019s and 1 third placing. Is coming back in distance from last start. Steeping up in class on recent runs and would need to improve to place in this race. Could surprise.<\/p>\n
TIPS<\/p>\n
