With the exception of 2020, the purse has been held at the current $6 million amount. 2020 was the one year where it was cranked up to $7 million.

The Classic Race has had some of the best horses in the game grace the event. Five Hall of Famers ran and won this race which include: Distorted Storm, Too Many Larry, I Won’t Look Back, Giant’s Kash and Thewayof The Force. There were also five Horse of the Year winners, which include many of the HOF’ers: Jeepster, Distorted Storm, I Won’t Look Back, Giant’s Kash and Thewayof The Force.

There have also been 9 horses that won the Classic race that won an Eclipse award, so just over half of the races have produced Eclipse winners. Five of the winners surpassed $10 million in career winnings and Distorted Storm won an amazing 50 races over his career.

No horse has ever won this event more than once. Slew Mischief looks to break that trend. The 2025 winner returns to take another shot and become the first 2-time winner of this event. He is joined by last year’s second place finisher He Wants Guns (who also is the 2024 Breeders’ Bowl Classic winner) and is also seeks his second win in this race. Joining them is Big Ron who finished 4th last year.

A solid speed will be commanded to win this race with as the average winning speed is 118 over the history of this race. Thewayof The Force holds the record high speed of 121.4 (2021) for this race with the lowest speed a not so bad 115.1 in 2024 by He Wants Guns.

The three-year-olds have a disadvantage in this race as the half-dozen runners are all pegged at 40/1 odds or higher. In the history of the Breeders’ Bowl Classic, there have been six three-year-olds that have won the Classic race and in five of the cases, each winner came into the race with a career best speed of 114 or higher. The exception was the very first race in 2009.

Here are the 2026 contenders for the 10-furlong Breeders’ Bowl Classic:

41/1

CHINOE is a young 3-year old who nearly made sim-racing history as he took wins in the first two legs of the Triple Crown races this year. He won the Bluegrass by a solid 2+ lengths and followed up with another nice margin of over 3-lengths in the Middle Jewel. Speeds were 106 and 108 for these pair of races. After struggling in the long 12f New Yorker, Chinoe came back with a win in the G2 Shiny Gem by a large margin of over 8-strides and a career best speed of 113. His last start was a disappointing 7th in the Travelers. Chinoe has had a great year for owner Desperado and he is currently the top horse in earnings in 2026 with more than $6.5 million banked. A win here, would surely lock a Horse-of-the-Year award. Chinoe will have improve upon his career best speed as he battles with older horses for the first time.

2. 10/1

CHAMPAGNE LARRY has three very fine dirt races this season. In February, this horse settled just behind the leaders in the third slot in the California Handicap, timed things perfectly, and powered his way through the stretch to run away with the victory by 2-1/2 strides and a 117 speed. Five months later, in the Movieland Shiny Cup he scored a three length win after hanging tight and pressing the top two runners and notched a lifetime best speed of 118. A month later, in the TJ Smith Equinics race, Champagne Larry came up a half-stride short after again, pressing the front pair of runners with a respectful 113 speed. Owner Tenpoint has provided Champagne Larry with a nice rest break while prepping this runner for this big race. His last three dirt starts have all been at the 10-furlong distance and he’s hit the board each time. He should be in the hunt!

3. 14/1

LIFE IS GOLD competed against several entrants in this Breeders’ Bowl Classic race in his last start, the Jockey Guild Gold Cup. He finished a very fine second behind Megatrend with a 115 speed, missing the win by under a stride. This speed equaled his career best, which he notched two months earlier in a winning listed stakes race by a cozy 4-stride advantage. In between these two races, Life is Gold finished sixth in the Bob Woodward Memorial with an okay 110 speed. Only recently has Life is Gold started racing in stake events for owner Wrathbeard. Looking at his last start, he ran well against formidable competition. He may just be reaching the peak of his career.

4. 19/1

I’M MANDA FLY ME is a mare who will be battling with the men for her third time. Her first battle dates back to September, 2024 in the G1 Jockey Guild Gold Cup where she finished last. That was not surprising considering her 76/1 odds in that race. The second time she ran against males was July of last year in the G2 Grumpy Old Man Marathon and finished third. This year she has 7 grade level race appearances and took a pair of seconds in the G1 Nutty Squirrel and G1 Great Dane with 110 and 103 speeds. She also has a pair of wins coming from the G1 Desert Lady and the G1 Sneaky Sneaky, both with 110 speeds. I’m Manda Fly Me loves to set the pace and in her last start, while she finished 2nd in the Great Dane, she lost a ton of ground in the stretch, finishing 9-strides behind the winner. Owner RWhisper’s mare will be facing several guys in this very large field that also like to run on the lead and she will have a big challenge to get there and hold the spot.

5. 8/1

NEXT HUNDRED YEARS has raced six times this season and scored speeds of 111 or better each time for owner Punter34. He took a listed stakes to start the year, using his late foot speed to win by a stride and 113 speed. He moved up to the graded level after this win and scored his first graded stakes win in the G2 West Coaster with a 113 speed and was 9-strides back at the half and ran away with the win by 3-lengths and a career best speed of 118. Next Hundred Years had a fine 2nd place finish in the G1 Hit Me Handicap, rallying late but finished more than 2-strides behind the winner. In his last start, the GoodyGood, Next Hundred Years equaled his career best speed of 118 and came on hard in the second half of the race, closing from 7-back at the half to win by a healthy 2-lengths. Next Hundred Years has been racing 9-furlongs for a while, but can handle the 10-furlong distance as he has broke his maiden at this distance on the turf and won an allowance dirt race too. If this late closer gets the win…his name will be in the record books for at least the “next hundred years”.

6. 48/1

TEAKWOOD ROAD is a young 3-year old gelding who has his ups and downs during the 2026 racing season. He kicked the year off nicely, by putting in a nice second place finish in a purchased G3 stake race in January, missing the top spot by a half-stride and 101 speed. Owner Oakridge set his eyes on the Bluegrass Derby for this runner and placed him into a derby lock in race, the Florida Derby. The free pass did not come Teakwood’s way as he finished fourth and a good margin behind the winner. The G2 Buckey Derby turned out to be the “Derby” he needed to be in as he clobbered the field by over 4-lengths and boosted his speed up to 108. A pair of seconds were followed in the G1 Clerk of Scales and Neville Begg Derby Equinics race, both with 106 speeds. Teakwood Road’s derby success would come to a halt in the G2 South Bend Derby where he was a non-factor in the event, finishing near the back of the field. Teakwood Road is an underdog in this field as most runners are striking speeds of 110 and higher. It will be an uphill “road” for this one to travel.

7. 10/1

A P INDY PHAROAH is a late runner who can make up tons of ground in the later part of the race. His last three starts have all been in G1 events. In the Sand Castle Classic, he was last (20th) in the huge field at the half and 16-lenghts behind and finished second and narrowly missed the top spot by ½-length with a 116 speed. He finished third in his next pair of starts, both with 114 speeds. In the Movieland Shiny Cup, A P Indy Pharoah overcame a 10-stride deficit and reduced it to a little over 3-lengths at the end. He was even further back at the midway point in the Jockey Guild Gold Cup trailing by over 18 and closed to be within two lengths of the winner. Owner Stockswami has a very nice horse who seems to be very sharp but he just hasn’t sealed the deal. He hasn’t won in over a year but he still will loom dangerously as he chases after the leaders.

8. 19/1

DEI TY POWER will be making his fifth career appearance in grade level racing in this Bowl Classic race. His best performance came two races back in the G3 Washington Drive where he finished second with a 112 speed and was 2+ strides behind the winner. This came on the heels of a fine listed stake win by a length and 113 speed. However, Diety Powers last start for owner Jastables was a big disappointment. He finished next to last in the G2 Windy City Gold Cup with a sub-100 speed. Over his career, he has had streaks of top-3 finishes as well as small runs of poor outings. Hopefully, this isn’t the start of a run going the wrong direction and he can make a quick U-turn and head back in the right direction.

9. 21/1

JAMISONLINE enters this race fresh off back-to-back wins. The first came in an allowance race which he won handily by over three strides and a 107 speed. Owner James 34 has to be very pleased with the win in the G2 Windy City Gold Cup that Jamisonline won by a head in his last start. He has a total of three wins this year in ten starts with the other one in February which charted a 110 speed and a healthy 6-length margin. Between the February and the last two wins, Jamisonline had four races in a mix of allowance, listed stakes and graded stake events in which he was beat by sizeable margins. He might just be now getting hot now at the right time!

10. 17/1

CURLY AND MOE has hit the board in five of his seven stake race appearances this season for owner USC Steve. This includes a pair of wins with the first landing back in March in a listed stake event where this runner rallied from last and 8-strides off the lead to win by a good 6+ length margin with a career best 116 speed. His second stake win came immediately when he jumped up into the G3 Waterloo Classic and again came from 8-off the lead and this time winning by over a length and equaling his career best speed. After Curly and Moe’s grade level win, he came close to snagging a second one in the May running of the G3 Peach State Classic, missing the top seat by a head and a 115 speed. He also has a pair of thirds, one at the start of the season in a listed stake race and the other came in his most recent start (which followed a pair of poor outings in G1 events) and missed the win in the G2 Windy City Gold Cup by a mere quarter stride and nice 111 speed. Curly and Moe is a fine late runner who is capable of scoring very nice speed numbers. The G1 level has been tough for him, but he does show good form throughout the year and could find that elusive G1 win in this race.

11. 43/1

JR VIDELA is a 3-year old speedster who used his quick legs to break out of the starting gate and excel to the front and won a pair of early season listed stake sprint races. In May, he ran in an allowance race at 9-furlongs, going a route distance for the first time. He sizzled and destroyed the field by over 9-lengths with a 109 speed. Jr Videla would duplicate that speed number in the G2 Swamps Stake, another 9-furlong race that he would capitalize with a win by a healthy 3+ strides. Owner Tamure realized this youngster has something nice going in the route distances and entered him into the 10-furlong G1 Traverlers. This turned out to be a wise decision as Jr Videla produced results yet again, winning with a 110 speed but by a narrower ½-stride margin. Jr Videla likes the route and has won three-in-a-row and five of his last six starts. He is showing lots of promise and steps up to face older horses for the first time. He will be flying out of the gate but will need to move the needle on the speed figures up a bit to beat out the more experienced runners in this field, and, he may have it in him to do so.

12. 51/1

TIME PLUS TIME is a three year old with only 9 starts and will be fighting with the older horses, for the first time, in the Breeders’ Bowl Classic. He is owned by Harrylan and this colt is loaded with front running speed. He earned an entry into the Bluegrass Derby with a gate-to-wire victory in the Arkansas Juvenile, a derby lock race, with a 104 speed. While he finished 4th in the Bluegrass, he quickly recovered with his second G1 win in the Eddie Haskell where he got into a duel for the front spot throughout the race and held on to win the race by a head, just beating out the late closers. A career best speed of 109 was penned in the Haskelll Stakes. Time Plus Time enters this race off a 6th place finish in the LA Derby (G2) where he was unable to get to the lead during the race. As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the average winning speed of the Breeders’ Bowl Classic has been 118 and Time Plus Time doesn’t have much time to bump his career best up to that level.

13. 12/1

YOU GET QUALITY has raced four times in his career in graded events and has hit the board each time for owner Harrylan. His first time was in mid-2024, finishing third in the G2 Flying Whales Cup. His other three appearances were all this season and in his last three starts. In the G3 Soupy Sails Classic, You Get Quality finished 2nd and just over a length behind the winner with a 114 speed. Another 2nd came in the G2 Gotta Fic the Sprinklers Classic, with a career best speed of 115. His most recent race was the G2 Brookline Handicap finishing third by a bit over three-strides and a 110 speed. You Get Quality has shown that he indeed has quality, but a grade level win has yet to land in his lap. He cranks things up going in a G1 race for the first time. He has been ITM 15 of 17 dirt races and could be in-the-money once again.

14. 62/1

OUYEN KEIRO has won a pair of graded races this year for owner Tulloch. The first came in the first week of the racing season, in the G3 Legoland that he won by a solid 4-lengths and a 103 speed. He had won his last two races of 2025 in an allowance and listed stakes and this win concluded a three-race win streak. Ouyen Keiro also won the G2 Captain Hook in April by over 2-lengths with a 102 speed after trailing by over 8-at the half. He is a late runner and hit his career best speed of 108 in his las start, the G2 LA Derby. Despite notching a career best speed, he missed hitting the board, finishing fifth and 3-1/2 strides behind the winner. This late runner made up a ton of ground in this race, going from last at the half and over 15-lengths behind. Ouen Keiro adds an extra furlong from his last start, which will give him more real estate to get to the front runners. This will be his first start going against older horses who have been hitting speeds well over 110. The extra furlong could help him nudge the speed figure upward which is needed in this big event.

15. 13/1

NOT EXAGGERATING has only raced in graded company once in his career and that dates back to 2022 when he was a 2-year-old and finished in a mid-field position. Since then, he has made a few sporadic listed stake appearances that did not bear fruit. Until roughly a year ago, in late October, 2025, on a sloppy dirt surface, Not Exaggerating pumped out a 113 speed and finished second by two-lengths after running on the lead, hitting the board for the fist time in a stakes race. Success in listed stake racing continued onward, where he finished second four more times and was third once throughout the 2026 season, scrapping out speeds of 110 up to 114. He loves to set the pace but has been caught each time this year. He surges up to the G1 level into the Breeders’ Bowl Classic and is still seeking his first stake win for owner Amir1605. This 6-year-old has been improving like fine wine, and this is probably the race of his life! (I’m not exaggerating….sorry about the pun!)

16. 8/1

MEGATREND is either running “hot” or running “cold”. Last year, he won three of his six starts and concluded the season with back-to-back wins in an allowance race and listed stakes. The speeds were great, 118 in the allowance and 117 in the listed stakes. Speeds were 111 or higher in all but one race last year. Megatrend went cold as he had a pair of graded races in the first 4-months of this season, finishing fifth in each with respectful 110 speeds. After a three-month rest, he came back and things heated up. He put in a solid effort in a listed stakes, winning by a stride and a 119 speed. His last start was in the G1 Jockey Guild Gold Cup, which he won by just under a stride and a very good 116 speed. This was Megatrends’s first grade level win for owner MTK76 and he looks to extend his win streak to three-in-a-row in the Breeders’ Bowl Classic. His speeds are legitimately in the range that is needed to gain the victory in this race and he is a contender.

17. In 2025, Slew Mischief won the race for owner Harrylan by a strong 4+ length distance and a 118 speed, rallying from 6th place at the half to grab the victory. Slew Mischief took a nice long winter break and started the 2026 season off with a win in the G2 Khartoum Challenge. He again rallied from the 6th position at the half to take the race by a bit over a stride and a nice 116 speed. After poor outings in a pair of G1 races, Slew Mischief was dropped to a listed stakes race in an effort to regain his form. And he responded favorably, taking the win easily by over 8-lengths and a career best 121 speed. Unfortunately, the powerful win did not follow him into his last start as he returned to grade level racing in the G1 Jockey Guild Gold Cup, finishing a mid-field 7th with a 111 speed. While the recent listed stake performance looked very promising, Slew Mischief has struggled in his last three listed stake appearances. Hopefully, he’ll find his form again and make history in this race by being the first one to win it twice.

18. In 10 career starts, he has won 7 times and finished second twice. This year, he won his first four starts with an allowance race leading the way. He made a big jump in class to the G2 Land’s End and snagged his first grade level win by a very healthy 4-length margin and a 106 speed. Another 4-length came in his next start, which came in a listed stakes event with a nice improvement in speed to 109. The fourth win in the streak came in the G1 Clerk of Scales where this front-side runner crossed the line 2-strides ahead of his foes with a 108 speed. The streak came to an end in the G1 Travelers where Bonne Magie had an near miss second for owner Adrain, short by a half-length and notching a career best 110 speed in the process. Bonne Magie will need to crank things up quite a bit as other runners are hitting speeds higher than he has been lately, but again, he is a junior runner in this race. Without a doubt, he will elevate the speed numbers but not sure it will happen quick enough in this big race.

19. 13/1

HE WANTS GUNS He Wants Guns has been in a slump of late. He started 2026 off with a nice second in the California Handicap with a 115 speed. He had three G1 races in a row where he finished off the board. In September, he looked to regain his form by taking a deep drop in class to an allowance race, which he won by over a length and a 108 speed. After this positive result, owner Dochman2 brought He Wants Guns back to the G1 level in the Jockey Guild Gold Cup where he finished with a 113 speed and fourth place finish. His form has been questionable and is definitely a concern. Still, it would be very nice to see him elevate his speed back to his career level of 115 or better which would give He Wants Guns a “shot” at having a return trip to the winner’s circle.

20. Since then, he has delivered a trio of grade level wins, starting with the G2 Toilet Scrubbers Anonymous Handicap, where he sported a solid 120 speed and an impressive win by a 6-length margin going gate-to-wire. The G1 Barry Foster saw Big Ron sit in a mid-field position before chasing the leaders and winning a photo by a neck and a 118 speed. Big Ron then battled on the front end in the G1 Western Ocean CA Classic and proceeded to destroy the field by over 10-lengths and striking a career best 121 speed on his first off-track outing.
