There were more old folks here than back at the Senior Citizens center for the Old Man Of The Mountain race yesterday. And I mean ON the track, not watching. There were a bunch of owners that tried to get into this one and they missed out on a terrific race. The caboose end of this race was about as close as you can possibly get. As predicted in my preview, ALBERTA SAMURAI<\/b> ended up being the survivor of this get together and he actually looked pretty spry doing it. I had mentioned in my preview that I thought that our host OUR TOWN<\/b> would do well in the first leg of the OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN series V, I just didn\u2019t expect him to do this well as he took the second position. In the Sun Dial portion of our series we had some folks dragging their walkers up the stretch with two of them practically locked arm in arm. ART HOME<\/b> was able to capture the last place spot and take the early lead there. That is what makes this series so interesting. It is a long series and horses come and go and gain points for the Old Man of the Mountain series Championship and garner all of the accolades that come with that. Certainly a nice thing to hang on your wall at the Old Horses Retirement Home!<\/p>\n

In the race itself, VEGAS HOTSHOT<\/b> started the race like it was like it was buffet time at the Golden Corral and he wanted to be first in line. He even looked like he might carry it throughout the race but the old body got the best of him and he slowed at the end to finish fourth. Our winner ALBERTA SAMURAI<\/b> breezed by the field like he was some young colt after coming from way back to finish in the top spot. He sure looks like he could do some damage in this series although the host OUR TOWN<\/b> might be able to run him down. THE CANADIAN DREAM <\/b> wheezed and geezed to third to gather his point and get on the leaderboard.<\/p>\n

In a separate part of the race, in what we call the Sun Dial Standings,<\/b> the race for last place is almost as coveted in the win in this series for AARP card holders. The winner of the Sun Dial Trophy is held in high regard back at the old folks horme. It\u2019s always a lot of fun to see who contends. In the end, we had two horses that finished more than thirty one lengths behind our winner. How often have you ever heard of a photo finish for LAST place?!? ART HOME <\/b> stuck his tail out and finished last by three one hundredths of an SPF point over BUBBA’S TALE <\/b> in probably the closest last place finish we\u2019ve had in over 40 OMOTM races. STORMZAPPER <\/b> was more than ten lengths ahead of those two old geezers but gathered a point for the Sun Dial award.<\/p>\n

ALBERTA SAMURAI <\/b> has one win here in the series and if he can recover he will certainly be the favorite next time out. It looks like the caboose end of this series might be as much fun as we\u2019ve ever had with the Sun Dial series. There are nine races left in the ten race series and lots of things can happen including quite a few heart attacks and strokes among the participants, so it should be interesting down the road. That\u2019s what makes this series so much fun.. Stay tuned Race Fans!<\/p>\n
