Those going to the windows for this race were not disappointed as the 9/2 favorite Forty Rahys, owned and trained by wildfit didn’t disappoint the fans gathered to watch the race. The five-year-old bay mare sprinted home to win the race in 1:47 1/5 by one and three-fourths lengths with jockey T. Seals aboard.
When the eight horses went to the post on Saturday, there were some tense and exciting seconds to pass as the horses and jockeys waited in the starting gate for the start of the mile and one eighth turf race. When the gates crashed open and the eight fillies and mares moved quickly out onto the track Tete In A Zashaan (NZ), trained by bizalls1 went out to an early one-fourth of a length lead over the rest of the field. One of just two foreign horses in the weekends race, the New Zealand bred six-year-old was running right up on the lead, a comfortable place for the chestnut mare. Trailing to her outside in second was the race favorite Forty Rahys. A wide three and one-fourth length margin separated first and third as otto owned Algodon De Azucar took up the third position. Strung out behind her in fourth and fifth were Tupungato and The Dark Mark (IRE), trained and owned by hipica and sunshine87 respectively. Trailing the leader by six and half lengths leaving the gate was Lady By Day, owned by michaelo. The six-year-old chestnut mare was known for a great closing kick, but she was running a little uncharacteristically at the back of the field.
Tete In A Zashaan (NZ) continued at the front of the pack and maintained her one-fourth length lead over Forty Rahys, who was still running in second at this point in the race, biding her time until she would rocket forward when they neared the stretch. Algodon De Azucar stayed right behind in third position but had dropped back more off the pace and now trailed Tete In A Zashaan (NZ) by five and one-fourth lengths. Trij trained Ghost Whispers was beginning to make an early move at this point in the race and was moving up steadily, going around horses on the outside. She was quickly putting away Tupungato who was quickly falling back in the field and was now running back in seventh, falling out of the fourth place position she held early on. A half length behind the quickly faltering Tupungato ran the late charging Lady By Day.
As the field went into the turn Forty Rahys made an early move in the race and moved past Tete In A Zashaan (NZ) to her inside. The favorite Forty Rahys was now running in the lead by one and one-fourth lengths over the New Zealand bred mare. An early run put in my Kevorkain, trained by nightracin had put her up into third, but still six and one-fourth lengths off the pace of Forty Rahys. Ghost Whispers was continuing her move up in the race and was now sitting comfortably in fourth, though stuck on the outside having to go around horses on the turn. The Dark Mark (IRE) was being asked for run in fifth position but wasn’t responding to the urgings from jockey L. Gordon. At this point Lady By Day was starting to make a big move on the rail, squeezing between horses and the small empty running space left on the inside. Algodon De Azucar and Tupungato were falling out of contention for the race.
As the field straightened out of the turn and headed down the stretch for the wire, Forty Rahys still maintained her lead. Kevokain had gave it her all in the turn and was out of gas as they came down the stretch, the bay mare beginning to fall back as they galloped for home. Lady By Day was flying by horses on the rail and probably posed the most serious threat to Forty Rahys if she was able to catch her as they came down to the wire. Ghost Whispers was also making a nice run down to the wire, but it was clear she wasn’t going to catch either of the two of these fillies. At the wire, favorite Forty Rahys managed to maintain her leading margin of one and three-fourths lengths over the late-charing Lady By Day, who finished second. Ghost Whispers finished third. Though Forty Rahys put in a fast race for the Good Vista Handicap (G3), the stakes record for the race would remain intact as Forty Rahys finished to miss breaking the stakes record by a few fractions of a second.
Also rans: Kevokain, Tete In A Zashaan (NZ), The Dark Mark (IRE), Algodon De Azucar and Tupungato.

[3

post-7297","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reviews
["GET
