Much of the interest is directed to the favorite Shoe Check and seems to be promoted by an individual we will not mention here or within this article, but will put out a clue..it’s the horses’s owner.

This is a listed stake event in British Columbia at 5.5 furlongs on the grass with a wet surface and right now, the stewards are labeling it as “good”. The only stake race at the BC track this weekend drew in a small field of six runners and all but one will be taking home some purse money. Let’s see how well the field stacks up against the favorite:

1 KURL 3/1 is owned by Eminc and is sired by No Nay Never and comes in off a solid win in the allowance ranks with a last-to-first move to capitalize by a half stride. She has three stake tries over her career with a third place finish as her best outcome. Speedwise, she has been in the low 100-range for this season. She prefers the sprints, winning four of 11 races and does have a second place finish on the offtrack surface as a 2-year old. Kurl has struggled in stake races, but her last outing does bring some hope for her first stake victory.

2 GIANT CONE 9/1 is owned by MichaelB and this filly has been sired by Nicconi. She made her first stake race try a month ago and was never a factor in the event finishing 7th out of a field of eight with a 90 speed. Giant Cone has raced once on a wet surface and it was her first career start, finishing third in her maiden race. She surrendered racing on the dirt for the turf this year and has netted a pair of wins and a second in six outings. Her speeds are a large concern as she has been in the low to mid 90 range and her poor showing in her listed stake race in her last outing add even more concern of pulling off an upset in this race.

3 SUNSHADOWS 11/1 is owned by Arnoldedwards and she is a mare out of Charlatan. She has been competing on the dirt surface all of 2025 and will be returning to the turf for his race. On the grass, over her lifetime, Sunshadows has never won in four tries and has a third place finish for her best outing. She is taking a serious jump up in class to make her first stake appearance. Speeds, this season, have been in the mid 80 to lower 90 range and again, that was all on the dirt. Her four turf outings have not broken the 90-level and Sunshadows will have to break through that level and, more than likely, the 100- level too which is too much to expect.

4 SHOE CHECK 3/2 is owned by Beisbol and is a child out of sire Scorpion. She has raced 23 times and reeled in 13 wins with 7 seconds and 2 thirds hitting the board a very incredible 96% of the time. She has been spending the season racing in the claiming class but has turning out speeds of 100+ each time she races, topping out at 109 and these have been at the mile distance. She cuts back to a sprint, which she has two wins in two starts. As for the wet track surface, she is not bothered by it with a pair of wins and a third in three offtrack outings. Sire Solonia has only one child that has won a stake race and that was back in 2013. Shoe Check is very consistent and has been performing well. The only challenge may be taking the huge leap from the bottom of the claiming ranks into the listed stake level.

5 SHADY HILL 7/2 is owned by Chilimac and is sired by Ocean Park. She has won 11 times on the turf and ITM a total of 22 times in 28 races. She has won three listed stake races and has a second and pair of thirds at this level of racing over eight races. Shady Hill has raced 8 times this season and has hit speeds in the lower 100-range half the time and has raced at the allowance level over her last three starts. Shady Fog returns to the stakes level and has been a consistent performer over her lifetime. Wet track running may be a concern as she has two races on moist surfaces with a second-place finish and the speed was 96 and sandwiched between a pair of 100+ speeds showing that she may not desire the off track setting. Shady Hill has earnings over $500,000 and looks to add to this tally and is an experienced stake runner.

6 SPAGHETTI’S ANGEL 7/2 is owned by Jockfan and was sired by Harry Angel. Spaghetti’s Angel has raced 10 times in listed stake races with a 1-3-1 record. She has won 7 of 23 turf races and ITM 15 times on the grass. She’s able to hit the 100-speed level, and has done that several times over her career. Speeds have tailed downward to the mid-90 range over her last three starts on poly and turf races but on the board twice and it should be noted that these starts were bottled up in a short one-month period and could affect the speed figure. The offtrack does not bother her as she has two victories and a third in three wet-track races. She has had a month off since her last race and may be ready to see the speed bump upward again.

My Picks

Shoe Check, for owner Beisbol, looks good in this field, despite the huge jump from claimers to stake racing, which could be the only downfall for this runner. Gets top pick.

Although she has struggled in listed stake races, Kurl has very good speed numbers in this field and has a decent chance to get her first win and looks to be the main threat to the top pick.

Third pick is going to Spaghetti’s Angel….toss up between her and Shady Fog, but I have aways loved spaghetti through my life, so wins the spot as the tie breaker.

Well, made it through the article, without mentioning Beisbol’s name once as the owner of Shoe Check. Good luck to everyone in this race!

Seeing that there seems to be some interest in one of the runners in The Curragh Turf Mare Sprint, I’ve

[2

post-72761","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
