The schedule is more relaxed time-wise and allows for a bit more rest to prep for the next big race. Ed’s Kash won the EWC Derby and seeks to be the first triple crown winner in the EWC residence in their first running of this series of races. Will he be successful? The race is at 9.5 furlongs and will be on a wet, good track. Here is the field for the race with many looking to hamper his efforts.

1 Pete’s EWC Thank U 18/1-Won three-in-a-row leading into the EWC Derby. These victories were at sprints and the Derby’s 10f distance was too much for this colt. He ran 2nd in the first half of the race but fizzled out and drifted toward the rear of the field. This race is fractionally shorter in distance and improvement is not expected but this will be his first off-trace appearance and game mare Miss Ocean City won twice in three outings on the off-track, and maybe that trait is in this one’s bloodline.

2 Raven’s Flappage 20/1-Has been first or second 8 times in 12 starts, hitting top two spots a very nice 66% of the time. He ran in the EWC Derby and was never a challenger in the event. Most of his success has come on the turf and on the dirt he has finished second once in three starts. He has one win in a route distance which was earned on the poly surface. He is untested on the off-track which could be his best chance as game mare Flappage won 3 of 6 on the wet track and was ITM 4 times.

3 Mambo of the West 8/1-Filly put in an excellent performance in the EWC Derby, racing with the boys for the first time. She was 18th at the first call and was 12 strides off the lead at the half. She made up tons of ground and finished fourth by a half-length. She likes the off-track too! 1-1-0 record in 2 outings and hit career best speed of 101 on a good track. Girl has class and can handle the boys. Worth watching!

4 Whiskey Mischief 7/1 -Colt ran in a mid-field position in the EWC Derby and was the 8/1 favorite who looks to make amends. He made up 5 strides in the 2nd half of the race but only moved from 6th to 5th and under 2 lengths behind the winner. In the G3 Tesio Test, his start before the EWC Derby, he struck a career top speed of 102 and was also 5th. He does have a third on a good wet-surface, which was a listed stake effort earlier this season. Whiskey looms as a threat as he is able to hit 100 speeds and likes the route (4 of 7 ITM).

5 Exshaw 9/1- Has a 1-1-1 record in four career starts which includes a third in the G2 Heat Less where a 105 speed was popped out and missed the top spot by a quarter-stride. He ran in the EWC Derby and the speed drooped down to 92 as he was overtaken by a number of horses late in the event. He advanced to second at the third call and ended up in seventh. The 9.5 furlong distance is a notch shorter than the 10f EWC Derby and could be a better suit for this colt.

6 Fabulistic 17/1- Had a miserable time in the EWC Derby and never was a serious threat. He has shown promise in the G1 Kewl Whipp where he finished fifth with a 99 speed and gained in the stretch run. He has three career wins and all came in routes. This will be his first off-track appearance and his mother raced once on the wet track and was off the board and it does not look like the rain will help his chances here.

7 Dylan Castle 13/1- Colt has won two of his four career races and the first was with maiden runners the second in a 9f allowance race in late February where he won by 5 lengths and a 105 speed. The speed disappeared in his last outing where he ran 9.5 flanks in another allowance event with a 95 speed figure finishing sixth. This will be his first stake race and if he can drag that 105 speed race out of the closet, he may pull off an upset.

8 Ed’s Kash 8/1-The winner of the EWC Derby returns looking to snag the residency triple crown. In the EWC Derby, he went to the lead and had a cozy 5-stride lead at the third call. This rapidly disappeared as the field rushed towards him and he held on to win a photo by a head with a 96 speed. He has 100 as a top speed, coming in the 8.5f Rebel Yell, finishing third. He has yet to run on a wet track, and his game Eclipse winning mare, Miss Mo, never race on the wet track. Ability to perform on the off-track is an unknown. Wears the target in this event and must have even better effort this time.

9 Dialed in Finance 10/1-Almost took the EWC Derby as he launched a strong late charge from the 11th spot, at the mid-way point, to finish second and getting the short-end of a photo finish. This was unusual for this entrant as he usually runs on the front side of the field early on and that time he was held back. It did show he could run from the back and he hit a top speed of 101 two races back in an 8.5f listed stake race (finished third by a neck). Whichever racing style he uses in the Preakness, whether it be press the lead or come from behind, he will be a threat.

10 Kash Front 9/1-Comes into this race after a trio of turf rout races where he hit 100 and up speeds twice. He returns to the dirt where the speeds have been held below 90 and his only route race on the soil was a fifth place finish. He may like the wet track, as he has a second place finish in a maiden race. He has shown that he prefers the turf but is heading back to the dirt for this event and breeding linage is geared to the dirt. Past history, on the dirt, does not provide a lot of hope.

11 Have A Good Flight 7/2 -Favorite in this event comes off a very fine effort in an 8.5 listed stake event, flying from 11 strides behind at the half to miss by a quarter-length and a 106 speed. Prior start was a 6th place finish in the G2 Heat Less where he finished 6th but 1-3/4 strides off the winner and this was slashed from a 10+ deficit at the third call and 103 speed figure. He is a solid runner who runs late and has hit the 100-speed level in three of his last four races. A threat in this race if he is fine with the wet surface, as this is his first start in the rain.

12 Minas Mana 23/1-Longshot has one stake race appearance and was her first career start where she set the pace and faded to 8th. She picked up a pair of win and a second in allowance races that were on off-tracks. Her speeds have yet to hit the 90-level and she squares off with the boys for the first time. A bit of a big challenge to undertake but she has proven the likes the ground wet and if things go her way, it will be a huge upset.

13 Now I Shall Cry 12/1- At the start of 2025, this runner traded the turf for the dirt and the tradeoff has worked. He has won three times and has a second in five outings. One of the wins was on a good surface where he broke his maiden. He did race in the EWC Derby and was flushed toward the rear of the field early on but was able to fire things up and came from a dozen strides off the lead at the half to finish a tad over strides behind the winner and in 6th place.

14 Dialed In Favorite 8/1- This horse invades this race and comes in off an allowance win (by a neck) and a top 105-speed. This is a big jump from the 93 in his prior start (2nd on off-track) and adds hope and promise. He has been ITM 5 of 8 starts, however, the three times he has been off the board have all been in stake appearances. The speed of 105 in his last looks impressive and could be enough to win this race, however, he has struggled in stake races and his 2nd on the off track had him 8-strides behind the winner. He has a chance if that 105 speed appears again, but past performance in stakes adds valid concern.

MY PICKS

I do not think we will see a triple crown winner with the EWC this year as favorite Have A Good Flight looks to be the best in this bunch with solid late speed ability and the knack to hit the 100-level.

Dialed in Finance was second in the EWC Derby and came from well back to get there. Whether he runs up front this time, or attacks from the back, this pesky runner is bound to find his way into top-three finish.

Mambo of the West was charging hard and late in the EWC Derby and missed by a hair. He also likes the wet track. Figures to do well and gets my third pick.

[2

post-70909","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
