Unlike the male division of this race already many of the horses looked to be making their way out of contention early. COCHITI(KY) laid just off the pace while BITES possessed the 3rd position. There were some suprises at this point however. ACQUITTAL(KY) and ALL IN BLACK (IRE) who figured prominantly in the betting at 7-1 each were 15th and 16th at the first call of the race and couldn’t seem to find any room to run.

At the halfway point of the race FAP’S GUN (KY) continued to lead the way. The 10-1 shot seemed determined to have two double digit odd horses win these races. COCHITI(KY) still stalked just behind. At this point PADDY’S LAW passed a couple of horses to take third place under the expert handling of Nevada’s top jockey V Jef. At the 2nd call 6 horses were still within 5 lengths of the leader and so realisticly it was anybody’s race.

Coming into the stretch COCHITI(KY) took the lead over FAP’S GUN(KY) but though she gave up the lead she was determined to finish strong. PADDY’S LAW(IRE) was making her move gaining groud with each stride. The only question was if there was enough distance to catch up. Two of the other betting favorites finally found some running room and began to make a move. ACQUITTAL moved up from 15th TO 9th while ALL IN BLACK (IRE) moved from 16th to 10th.

In the end COCHITI(KY) proved to have just enough to defeat PADDY’S LAW(IRE) to take home the first place check making mtnman very happy. The win paid out $9.90 to win. FAP’S GUN(KY) finished third while ACQUITTAL(KY) and ALL IN BLACK(IRE) finished just out of the money. The speed figures for this race was as impressive as their male counterparts. COCHITI(KY) ran an 82 while PADDY’S LAW(IRE) ran an 81.

Last place went to TATTIC(MD) who finished 30-1/4 lengths behind the winner to “win” the dubious honor.

There were two claims in this race. mike216 claimed GOLLY GOSH who finished 8th 9 lengths behind the winner. In addition BITES who finished 11th also 9 lengths behind was claimed by caracol. Good luck to both with their new acquires.

I look forward to next years version of the “Glue Factory Special” and hope to see races like I saw this saturday.

The weaker sex?
