The Partner Tootsie Special Stakes has a field of four ladies running on the dirt, going a distance of 5.5 furlongs. There are two co-favorites, both set at even money, setting a theme of a toss-up in this race. Let’s take a look at this field.<\/p>\n
1. Headbob 5-1
Headbob has one career start which was a maiden allowance going 4.5f. She won by a mere nose, however put in a speed of 73 which is a very respectful debut. She’s lunging into stake competition right away and may find this level a bit more challengin. <\/p>\n
2. Wrist Strong Even
Wrist Strong has been consistant, coming in the money 7 of 10 starts winning two races. Her last two outings have been impressive. She has tons of early speed, and her last race she gave up the lead late, settling for 2nd in a speed of 80 (going 4.5f). The race before was a victory at 5f in a speed of 85. She will be a tough one here and will most likely try to run away with the race.<\/p>\n
3. Secure the Area 12-1
Secure has been in the money 4 of 5 starts, implying a level of consistancy. However, a closer look reveals that she’s never faced a field larger than six, which down plays the consistancy factor. Her speed is of concern as her career best is a rating of 61 running a 7f race. The rest of the field has much better speeds. She seems doubtful to take this race, however, she does draw jockey Wisniewski (23%) who can enhance this filly’s chances.<\/p>\n
4. Desert Fish Even
Desert has won 3 of 6 sprint starts which includes the Bob’s Well Stakes. Three of her last four races boasted speeds in the 80’s making her a contender. She doesn’t sport much early speed, and could feasible be the early trailer, however, she won’t be too far back and has a decent chance to take this race.<\/p>\n
I feel that Wrist Strong has the ability to do a gate-to-wire trip. She shouldn’t have a problem getting the lead and it doesn’t look like any one will press her to hard, giving her a chance to relax on the lead.<\/p>\n
Desert Fish will be making a run late, but Wrist Strong may have enough to hold her off, so Desert gets my second selection.<\/p>\n
Headbob had a great premier race and jumps to stakes. She’ll need to rise to the occassion to beat the top two, and I don’t think she’ll be ready. This race will give her some good exposure with tougher horses and she gets my third selection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
