There is no place to spend the first weekend of Autumn than at Saratoga in New York. We are a ways from the leaves changing but it just feels different somehow. We are here for the Preview Cup, a one mile turf race for the juveniles. This $75,000 stakes looks like a very evenly matched field so lets take a look:<\/p>\n
#1 HAIR NATION trainer – sunkitten, ( 5\/1), Jockey \u2013 Ax. Williams (13%), Avg Sp # (N\/A)
Nice looking Rahy colt out of Chimera is stakes tested as he has been in three Graded Races in a row but never finished better than second. He has continually stretched out further in his five races but this will be his first mile race. Ax Williams will capably guide this colt.<\/p>\n
#2 CELEB HOLLANDIA(IRE) trainer – bentacon, ( 14\/1), Jockey \u2013 R. Foster (16%), Avg Sp # (N\/A)
One of five Irish breds in the race, this nicely bred Barathea colt out of Gilded Hanna has never finished out of the money in four races, including three stakes. He has only run sprints and is taking his first shot at a mile. The extra distance may actually do him well, although the morning line lists him as the longshot here.<\/p>\n
#3 PEDRO’S RAINBOW(IRE) trainer \u2013 pedro1975, ( 7\/1), Jockey \u2013 B.Child (13%), Avg Sp # (85.1)
Last time out this Scenic colt took to the grass for the first time and really seemed to like it. He finished second in an allowance but threw a nice 85 speed figure at a mile which would put him in the mix here. Watch out for this one. <\/p>\n
#4 BBORS BABY TUNE trainer \u2013 bbor3, ( 8\/1), Jockey \u2013 R. Haffner (9%), Avg Sp # (78.8)
This beautiful light grey Skip Away out of Sky Tune offspring has never finished worse than 2nd but in only three races and this will be his first Stakes try. A tad smaller than some of the other colts in this race, he has looked good in workouts this week and has shown improvement each time out. Another one that is tough to figure amongst these youngsters.<\/p>\n
#5 CRONUS(IRE) trainer – chilcoat, ( 7\/2), Jockey \u2013 P.Davis (13%), Avg Sp # (87.0)
One of the favorites and with good reason. Anytime you have a Giant\u2019s Causeway colt on grass, you have a shot. He is out of broodmare Sonoma who had her own race successes and he has two firsts and a second in a Grade Three last out, all on grass. This colt looks like he could turn into something special and will be a force to be reckoned with in this race and down the road.<\/p>\n
#6 DUEL SPIN TURBO trainer – brandt, ( 9\/2), Jockey \u2013 CJ. Anderson (4%), Avg Sp # (80.7)
The only filly is five for five in the top three and nice jumps in improvement every time out makes this her dangerous. The Elusive Quality young lady will be in Stakes company for the first time but has been able to handle anything thrown at her so far. A little surprising that trainer brandt has hired jockey CJ Anderson who has had a tough year at Saratoga. She may show the boys something here.<\/p>\n
#7 PUB CRAWL(IRE) trainer – stormborn, ( 5\/2), Jockey \u2013 N. Lawton (22%), Avg Sp # (87.5)
What can you say about a colt that has won every race he has been in? Four for four, including a stakes and a Grade One, this will be the first trip across the pond for the El Prado Irish bred. He has raced only in Ireland previously and remains to be seen how he travels but the light grey beauty has streaked down the stretch in each race so far and with Saratoga\u2019s best jock up and the best speed figure in the race, I sure can\u2019t bet against him.<\/p>\n
#8 ZANZABAR(IRE) trainer \u2013 peeps8, ( 6\/1), Jockey \u2013 L. Gunn (15%), Avg Sp # (71.5)
Lightly raced Zanzabar won his only outing easily but is making a pretty big step up here. Will the Galileo colt suffer from those second race blues or jump up in his first Stakes to show improvement? His 71 speed figure at a mile last out probably won\u2019t make the board here. He definitely needs to step it up a notch.<\/p>\n
There is no way that I can choose against the perfect record of PUB CRAWL in this race. Juveniles are so tough to handicap but he looks like the class of the group. I think Pedro\u2019s Rainbow will keep ahead of lucky lady DUEL SPIN TURBO for third and CRONUS will hold on for second.<\/p>\n
