#1 Last Gleaming (The Mecca) 8\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: Winner of 3 in a row since finally breaking his maiden after 7 tries. Seems like turf sprinting is what this one likes best after taking down the NW2L and taking the jump into a listed stakes. It went really well for him as he also claimed victory in the Proper Parade. So what is the likelihood he is able to take another big step today against graded company? I like him better than some others who have shorter odds so I think the value is there. He knows what he likes now and has done it well, so the question is can he do it at this level? I wouldn\u2019t rule him out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#2 Fight Klub (MIDAS) 6\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: Has never routed in his career so should be at home going 6 on the turf. He has won half his starts including 2 listed stakes, including 2 back where he took down the Pro Jed Turf Sprint. Unfortunately, when he tried his luck in graded company he was not successful at all. In 4 attempts, his best showing was a couple of 6th back at the end of last season. So, what can we expect to see from him today? I feel he is hard to back at this level until we see him be competitive here. Might be a touch out of his league but the field didn’t come up overly strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#3 Albereto (Down Under Racing) 4\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: This will be his first ever race against graded company, but comes into it with the highest speed figure at this distance in the field. He has won 3 straight allowance races dating back to the start of the year. There have been two tries at listed stakes in between those where he has been competitive but only managed a 3rd in the Red Zebra. So the numbers make him competitive, but the results raise some questions? I like him to take a step forward against this group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#4 T.T.K. Firey (The Mecca) 5\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: Never been out of the money sprinting on the turf in 6 starts so at home with those conditions today. His second last out in the Highland Cat capped off a nice trio of races since moving back to the grass. Will like to be near the lead and should be the one they are chasing late. He has a tendency to be caught late and is yet to break the triple digit figure like the best here. Should be in the mix but I think a podium finish is the most likely scenario for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#5 Barbaricio (Elite Racing Club) 9\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: Cut back to 6 furlongs last out and rattled off a third in the Stop Snoring. The shorter distance helped as he was not very competitive in longer graded stakes before that. Probably wish the turf came up soft as it seems he runs his best races on that type of surface. His second in the G3 Notting Hill and win in the Devils Sky were both on the soft ground where he is actually 3 of 4 with a lone second. You can make the case the last was a step in the right direction, but might still be a step slow for this group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#6 Pivotal De Vega (No Residency) 3\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: Started his career with a very impressive stretch of races which included a win in the G3 Triple P and second in G2 Champagne Mile. Unfortunately, that stretch hasn\u2019t continued in his last series of races. In 4 of his last 5 races he has only been better than 6th once. Of course, that was a win in the G3 Woette Sprint so maybe he will figure it out as he cuts back to 6 furlongs for the first time since his 2 year old campaign. Back class is there but would have liked to see a lot more consistency heading into this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#7 Golden Pearls (Universal Racing Club) 30\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: Only double digit odds in the field and it is a big one. Has won 1 start in his first 13 and that was going short on the turf. His last four have been on the dirt so making the switch back to the grass could kick start him. Unfortunately, he has never been competitive outside of allowance races and the step up in class doesn\u2019t seem to fit where this one is in his career currently. Would be a surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#8 Lone Pine Battle (Orphan Racing) 5\/2<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outlook: The string of 8 races to start his career were what most trainers wish for. Never outside of the money and winner of the G3 Philanthropist. The last 3 where he has been routing in some pretty strong fields was a step backwards when it comes to results. Looks to reset here as he shifts back to sprinting for the first time since last October. That was a win going today\u2019s distance so it will be interesting to see how he performs. The favourite but one with a distance question mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
