It\u2019s a full field for the ninth running of Germany<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s Grade II King Classic, a mile and three-sixteenths for fillies and mares over a \u201cgood\u201d dirt surface.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

Part of the reason the field is full is that three trainers had multiple entries.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The Jrogue Stables are responsible for four entries all by itself.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

In half the previous King Classics, the winner got her first graded stakes victory.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>That\u2019s a likely result here with a field that contains only one graded stakes winner.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

I\u2019m in a foul mood and not particularly impressed with the field, so I went to the chat room. Kloie always has nice things to say.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I found a way to get half my article written:<\/P>

kloie: she\u2019s been in the money a lot lately. oh, I don\u2019t like that her only stakes race was on an off track and she didn\u2019t do well<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: that was at a much longer distance.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I am more worried about class than the off track. you hardly ever see horse get their first stakes win, much less their first graded win after 38 starts<\/P>

kloie: hard to disagree with that.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>we should move on.<\/SPAN><\/P>

PP 2 Titania(KY) <\/STRONG><\/SPAN>(Kingmambo x Cat Thief x A.P. Indy) trained by bagur <\/I><\/B>\u00a0<\/SPAN>(Rafa Stables, 16%) Odds: 4-1*, Style: E\/P<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

timmn: here\u2019s the favorite. she\u2019s earned a check in every race since march 1st<\/SUP>, but she\u2019s never won against graded company.<\/P>

kloie: the fields she was facing were much stronger than this, and she absolutely showed she belongs.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>what does your E\/P style mean?<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: E is for early, P is for pressing, and S is for sustained runners.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>E\/P means she likes to be near the lead, but doesn\u2019t need it.<\/P>

kloie: is that what past winners are like?<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: actually most of the winners have been from well off the pace.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>also only one winner in the past five years has been among the top three choices.<\/P>

kloie: there\u2019s a lot of early runners here. that might hurt her.<\/SPAN><\/P>

PP 3 Spinning Quest(JPN) <\/STRONG><\/SPAN>(Coronado<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>\u2019s Quest x Spinning World x Secretariat) trained by inaspin<\/I><\/B> (Ace Stables – Scandinavia<\/st1:place>, 11%) Odds: 13-1, Style: P<\/P>

kloie: although she won her last try, she hasn\u2019t run a triple digit speed since last may.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: oh those speed figures! she doesn\u2019t belong in a graded stakes. and when she faces early speed she folds lie an origami crane.<\/P>

kloie: lol<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: that\u2019s not quite true \u2013 I just wanted to use that line.<\/P>

kloie: she is coming off a stakes win<\/SPAN>.<\/P>

timmn: owner restricted and a very soft field.<\/P>

timmn: some say the horses won\u2019t run faster than they need to win. her 90 might not be that bad.<\/P>

kloie: she ran in a grade 1 that was also owner restricted<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: that was a strong field<\/P>

kloie: she was only out of the money 3 times. once on an off track and the other two were a listed stakes and an equinics<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: off track. I forgot.<\/P>

kloie: things don\u2019t look good for her. I take that back. she might be ok.<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: 13-1. you wouldn\u2019t lose your house if you just missed one payment would you?<\/P>

kloie: but I would blemish my perfect record<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: where do you get an unraced sadler\u2019s wells x seattle<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> slew 4yo? I want one.<\/P>

kloie: I always like horses with sadler\u2019s well in the pedigree. especially as sire.<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: there\u2019s no way this one looks ready for the class jump, but i\u2019d trade just about any horse I have for her even up<\/P>

kloie: this horse is making a big class jump and doesn\u2019t look ready for it<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

kloie: lol. gmta<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: she was the 15th<\/SUP> ranked horse entered, but got in when one was scratched because of the off track<\/P>

kloie: 18% trainer. nice.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

kloie: and only out of the money twice in her career<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: i\u2019ll still pass<\/P>

kloie: ah, another sadler\u2019s wells x <\/SPAN>seattle<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> slew, just the ds and dds this time<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

kloie: she broke her maiden at this distance and has two solid tries on off tracks<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: another longshot that deserves respect<\/P>

kloie: I think this is my favorite of the longshots we\u2019ve looked at so far<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: I worry that her style is too close to titania\u2019s, and if this is the style that will win, the favorite is the better horse<\/P>

kloie: her trainer was going by the book with her, taking her through her conditions.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I like that<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: mostly by finding smaller and weaker fields than this.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>she was further back last time than normal.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>that can\u2019t be good entering a graded stakes.<\/P>

kloie: I still like her, even though we don\u2019t know how she\u2019ll handle the class.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: a 6 yo.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>and I was skeptical about a 5 yo looking for a first GW<\/P>

kloie: it\u2019s never too late to try<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: so I can go out for high school quarterback?<\/P>

kloie:\u00a0 <\/SPAN>go ahead.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I bet you have the same chance of making it as you did then.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: Kingmont Road<\/st1:address><\/st1:Street><\/P>

kloie: she\u2019s coming in off a stakes win with one of the highest speeds in the field last time<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: it was a very ordinary field last time.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>she tried this level once before \u2013 a year and a half ago and did nothing<\/P>

kloie: and the one time she tried this distance was one of her worst.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: the off track doesn\u2019t help her<\/P>

kloie: it doesn\u2019t hurt her. she runs about the same on wet or dry.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: I was just trying to find something to get excited about.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>4-0-0-1 on off tracks doesn\u2019t do it<\/P>

timmn: she should add to the early speed. this race is looking like it sets up for a late runner<\/P>

kloie: do we have any late runners?<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>we don\u2019t have access to the PPs yet. <\/P>

kloie: I know. and I know you\u2019re mad about it<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: there\u2019s not much negative to say about this one \u2013 it\u2019s just that I\u2019m having a hard time finding something positive<\/P>

kloie: I am having the same problem. nothing really jumps out. <\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: she\u2019s the second highest ranked runner in the race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>there must be some love we can show her<\/P>

kloie: well, she\u2019s proven herself in stakes, many others in here haven\u2019t<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: she seems to fade<\/P>

kloie but still ends up in the money<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: not many wins this year<\/P>

timmn: let\u2019s list the horses we know that win their first graded stakes in their 40th<\/SUP> start when they are 6 yo. you go first.<\/P>

kloie: a game? I love games\u2026ok..um\u2026errr\u2026well, what about that one who, no, nevermind<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: she is averaging nearly $4500 in earnings per start, but then so is my Studebaker<\/P>

timmn: we said we were looking for a late charging horse.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>How about Song Cat?<\/P>

timmn: and her lone wet start was terrible<\/P>

kloie: this one has more graded tries than the rest of the field combined I bet<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

kloie: and two graded wins, one pretty recently<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: I\u2019m pretty sure she\u2019s the only graded winner her. clearly the class of the race<\/P>

kloie: 2 wins in 3 starts on off tracks, too<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: the mona lisa field she beat in May was as good a grade 1 field. much stronger than this.<\/P>

kloie: but spinning quest beat her by several lengths in the equinics.<\/SPAN><\/P>

timmn: and she seldom wins without the early lead.<\/P>

kloie: I wouldn\u2019t go to <\/SPAN>Arkansas<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> to see the mona lisa. it is small and behind very thick glass. not worth it.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>
