Here in the North Fork Stakes (G2), fourteen two-year-old colts would vie for victory in the mile long dirt race on a track listed as firm. Hail The Empire owned and raced by simsters7 of the Evil Empire was a little hesitant about loading into the gate, but was able to move forward into the post without too much trouble from the track assistance. Then the tense seconds began until the fourteen juveniles thundered out onto the track. When the eight furlong race was all said and done, it was a surprise performance by Incredible Law, owned by tg, who took the win by 3/4 of a length in the first graded win of his racing career.
When the gates crashed open, as expected we had The Big Picture, for trainer dublinlad, going straight to the lead in the race by one-fourth of a length early on over super16’s first entry into the field, Kit Kat Club (ENG). Two lengths back behind in third out of the gate was Pure Smoke, trained by galloplaz, who was trying to secure his first graded win and was also making his first trip at a mile. Right up with him in fourth was sargent’s Sorrowful Jones, whom we had expected to see more up on the pace out of the gate at this early point in the race. Back a good four lengths off the pace from the leader early on out of the gates was The Shortest Straw, owned by outinfront. Trailing the field early on as they came out of the gate was reminder’s Silver Tongue (IRE) who was eight and a half lengths off the pace of The Big Picture who was the early leader.
The Big Picture, son of sire Saarland, increased his lead slightly to half a length over Kit Kat Club (ENG) with Pure Smoke being held back a little, now three and one-fourth lengths off the pace of the two front runners. Sorrowful Jones was still maintaining his position in fourth while Photonic Andro (IND), trained by craterus was making an early move on the outside of the field and and was now six lengths off the pace in fifth, moving easily past The Shortest Straw who was quickly fading as he was passed by Photonic Andro (IND) as well as tg’s Incredible Law, son of freshman sire Lawyer Ron, who had also snuck by on the outside. Silver Tongue (IRE) still trailed the field by thirteen and three-fourth lengths as they made their way over the mile long distance.
The Big Picture extended his length again, now leading Kit Kat Club (ENG by one length as they made their way towards the stretch. Incredible Law was making an incredible move towards the outside of the track, going around horses, and was now just two lengths off the leaders running in third, looking to pass them by as they made their way to the stretch. Photonic Andro (IND) was also moving up on the outside of the track and was now in fourth with Pure Smoke fading into fifth. The Shortest Straw was trying to fight back on the outside against Sorrowful Jones to his inside, but both horses were beginning to loose ground on the field. Hail The Empire, owned by simsters7 was making his move now and was in eighth towards the outside of the track. Thetiler’s colt Hishi’s Academy (JPN) was also making a late run now and was currently running ninth in a hole he found on the rail. Getting relatively nowhere in the race so far was fortune500’s My Lawyer who was nine lengths back in tenth with chezlea’s Cryptosmurphy running in eleventh. Desiring, trained by peter12 was running nine and a half lengths off the pace in twelfth and didn’t seem to have any more gas left in the tank as the field headed for home. Super25’s second entry in the field, Thunder Cracked was back running in thirteenth with Silver Tongue (IRE) still running at the back of the field, off the pace of The Big Picture by sixteen and three-fourth lengths.
The field of fourteen was in the stretch now, the grandstand going wild as Incredible Law and Photonic Andro (IND) both went up on the outside to challenge The Big Picture for the lead in the final furlongs. The Big Picture quickly dropped out of it and the North Fork Stakes (G2) was quickly turned into a two-horse race between Incredible Law and Photonic Andro (ND).
