The 2-mile marathon, The Leguisamo Special, a Grade I race, features a moderate size field of nine mares age 5 and up. The field has its hands full, a each of the contestants will take their shot at upsetting K’s Araku, the favorite who has been on a hot streak and seeks her 5th straight win.<\/p>\n
1. K’s Araku 5-2
If K’s Araku wins this, she’ll surpass the $3 million plateau in career earnings. She has been perfect at two miles, winning all four she has competed in. She is a terrific distance runner, winning 22 of 36, primarily gate-to-wire efforts. Her last race was a win in the Two Project stakes, winning by 7 in a speed of 101. She doesn’t race much in the graded stakes, but when she has,she has been competitive. In her last 13 races, she has a record of 10-2-0. She looks very tough to beat, and there is tons of value here at 5-2.<\/p>\n
2. Satisfaction 7-2
Satisfaction has one career race at the 2-mile distance, and that was an easy victory two races ago. She beat a short field of four drawing away from the field late in the race. She can handle the difference, but the question is, can she handle the graded level? Her last race was her debut in graded stake racing, and she finished 13th in a huge field of 18. This field is a softer field than the last race, and she should be a factor.<\/p>\n
3. Pain 14-1
Pain is making her debut in the graded stakes level. She’s also making her first run in a 2-mile race. Not to be funny, but Pain has been feeling some pain lately. She’s been winless since April of 2007. Additionally, this race will more than likely need a speed in the upper 90’s or higher to win. Pain’s best speed in races over 11 furlongs is 91. She has a tough task in front of her.<\/p>\n
4. Casino Gold 8-1
Casino Gold has been in the money 24 of 4o starts going the route. She can handle the 2 mile race distance, however, does have a tendancy to tire late. She’ll be trying to position herself just a little off the leaders, but she will need a some boost late to get the job done.<\/p>\n
5. Blame 19-1
Blame has won several races in the past going the marathon distance. Her speeds have been mainly in the 80-range, however, these were all on the turf. She makes a switch to the dirt where she hasn’t touched in over two years. The smart move is to pass here until we see if this move is fruitful. The risk takers may see a chance to cash in on this change.<\/p>\n
6. Ten Bucks 45-1
Over the last two races, Ten Bucks tried his luck in the Grade I racing sprints. There was no racing luck for her going the sprint and now she moves onto the marathon. Ten Bucks is out of her class here. She has been most effective racing sprints in lower class levels. Added to that, Ten Bucks has never run this distance before and is 0 for 7 in routes and seems doubtful in this race.<\/p>\n
7. Gyron 9-2
Gyron is making her debut in both he graded stakes level and going 16 furlongs. She has run a few lengthly distances recently with some respectible results. In January she won the Our Galoot Challenge going 13 furlongs in a speed of 102. She’s been running with speeds in the 90’s and recently set her career mark of 106 in a 10.5f stakes. She has credentials to put in a good showing.<\/p>\n
8. Star Tribute 5-1
Star Tribute loves routes winning 14 of 31 distance routes. She has tried the 16f twice, winning once and placing once. She runs many of her races in the 90-speed range, picking up purse checks regularly. Her recent form looks good, however, her best speed at 16f is 89. <\/p>\n
9. MT Lard 9-2
MT Lard is making a huge change. MT has never run more than 9 furlongs and the last time she ran a mile or more was back in 2006. She’s a sprint runner who is being asked to run more than double the distance. I have to pass on her. She’s essentially running 2 races back to back in this race and that will take its toll.<\/p>\n
K’s Araku is my top choice and should have little problem in extending her streak. The odds are very generous and jockey Ross (24% win) adds value.<\/p>\n
Satisfaction is coming into an easier field than her last race and should put in a much improved race.<\/p>\n
Gyron looks to be the best of the remaining in the field. She shows capability going routes, decent speeds, and should be able to get part of the purse money.<\/p>\n
