Here is the field:

#1 Zealeford (Empire State Racing) 9/1

Summary: 1 of 3 in here from this barn. He has faced NY bred the last couple in claiming events. He took down the latest by an easy 4 lengths going against NW2L for a tag of $60,000. His two lifetime routes he hasn’t finished worse than second so though the speed figure is still a bit light he might prefer this distance. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him be more competitive than he should as this might be the perfect spot for him. If he has talent, today is the day to see him deliver.

#2 Snowhappy (Universal Racing Club) 6/1

Summary: Most experienced in the field as this will be his 9th start. Ran against open company his last race while trying the mile for the first time. Posted the best speed figure of his career and will be happy to be getting back to NY breds where he has been ITM in 5 of his 6 starts. Will the long campaign take its toll or was the last one the experience he needed to be competitive here? Wouldn’t count out.

#3 Just So Quick (Empire State Racing) 9/2

Summary: Only 1 for 5 lifetime but he seems to be getting better with every start. Stepped out of the NY bred races with the 2nd place finish in the NW2L. Good to see his figure continue to rise but as competitive as he has been in his starts, he hasn’t figured out how to get back into that winners circle. Like him to be in the mix late with this group but can we trust him to get the win?

#4 Ear Plugs Required (Only Stayers) 11/1

Summary: Broke his maiden in his second start last out sprinting against maiden claimers. That was open company and gets to face NY bred for the first time today. The speed figure was a nice boost but hasn’t faced winners or the quality of horses he will today. Will need to make another big jump up to be competitive here. Will he be able to have the same effort against winners?

#5 Jazzbank Heist (Florida Racing Club) 114/1

Summary: Not much to say here. Out of his league.

#6 Idling Van (Empire State Racing) 14/1

Summary: Two races into his career and the best finish was when he came 3rd on the poly. Last out he faced maiden NY breds going a mile on the dirt and he only managed to come 5th. This group has come up much tougher than those so will really have to flip a switch to be competitive. If he wasn’t able to do it against non-winners, do we think he can do it against winners? Might be a stretch at this point in his career.

#7 Fog Hab (Hoosier Racing) 28/1

Summary: Has spent the majority of his short career in the claiming ranks and on the turf. Did post the nicest figure of his career last out on the dirt. This will be his first time trying a route. When he went 6.5 furlongs, his longest to date, he faded badly down the stretch. Seems he might be out of his league against these. Will need a huge bump to be competitive today.

#8 Nimble Northerner (Universal Racing Club) 5/1

Summary: Scratch that race off back in July in Ontario as it was in open company and he took a step back in form. When focused just on the NY bred races, he has been really competitive with two victories and a second. That second was at today’s distance but I think it probably suits him better than the sprints. His speed figure will need to keep improving but isn’t he the case for why these races were created? Like his chances.

#9 Snow Politics (Empire State Racing) 12/1

Summary: 1 of 3 in there from this barn. Those 4 four races he was trying a bit of everything to break his maiden. The light went on in his last start as he was back on the dirt and routing for the first time. Posted a speed figure that was more than 15 points higher than we have seen from him in the past. Of course when that happens we must take the bounce into consideration. Was that the real him or will that just be an outlier?

#10 Miracle Run (Empire State Racing) 5/1

Summary: 1 of 3 in here from this barn. This one seems to be the best of the bunch as he is coming in off back to back 3rds in ESR stakes. The distance will be an interesting point of discussion as he went back to a sprint after trying a mile two back. Was it more suited to the schedule or does the trainer think this one prefers shorter distances? The mile run wasn’t a flop, but he did lose lengths down the stretch. Is he suited for the distance?

#11 Feast of Bones (No Residency) 9/2

Summary: 4 of 7 lifetime and 86% ITM in his 7 career starts. Not sure what happened when he switched to the Stuger barn but he has been a completely different horse. Won the allowance by a neck sporting a 30+ jump in speed figure but backed that up with the 2nd in the Bobos Mistake in his last start. Looks to put in his 3rd big run since the switch. Will he revert back to form or is this who he really is?

#12 Yo Bust It (Empire State Racing) 16/1

Summary: 1 for 1 as he broke his maiden in a hot race in his first ever start. Goes longer today and obviously faces much tougher. Handled the others with ease, but can’t say too much as we haven’t seen the real him. Wildcard.

Field In
