This Saturday in California 14 fillies will go postward in the Grade 1 Breeders\u2019 Bowl Juvenile Filly race. This edition of the race is wide open with seven fillies all going to post at 8 or 9\u2019s in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of those fillies is Desperado Stables Race to the Light (#5, 8-1). The daughter of City of Light is unbeaten in three starts. She made her debut in June with a smashing win and it led to her first stakes score the following month. Trained to perfection for the Grade 1 Walnut Tree, the bay filly rolled home strongly through the lane to win with a new speed badge of 94. She passed a class and distance test and she looks to come right back on the same surface to stamp herself a Champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tenpoint Racing has Losing My Soul (#13, 8-1) in this race at the top of the market. The chestnut filly lost her debut and then rattled off three consecutive races. She showed her love of the California racing strip with a good score in a Grade 3 test in June. With plenty of preparation, the daughter of Justify stepped up in class and won the Grade 2 Camlaw in September. Loving the 8.5 furlong distance, she made a move early to take control and widened late to score a mild upset while taking a new speed badge of 96. A repeat would put her in contention against this group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Desperado has another of quality in this race, Hey Girl Hey (#10, 9-1). A chestnut filly by Bolt D\u2019Oro, she\u2019s never tasted defeat. A perfect 5-for-5 in a nicely spreadout campaign. She\u2019s been increased from 5 panels to 7 and her best win came in the Grade 1 Dell over this track. She earned a new speed badge of 95 and has been legged up wonderfully for this big test. She was last on the track racing in late August and they\u2019ve given her every chance to mature and improve for this race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m Through (#11, 8-1) is another at the top of the market. A daughter of Tapit for Tenpoint Racing. She made a winning debut in May and immediately tried a Graded race in June in which she hit the board. Last time out she tried 8.5 furlongs in the Camlaw and was beaten by only her stablemate, Losing My Soul. She did improve her speed again and it puts her right in the range of the best in this spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beerkeg Barn has a War Front filly, Lana Sharapova (#14, 9-1) in the gates on Saturday. She\u2019s come around nicely and she\u2019s been allowed to mature and handle the rigors of racing at a good pace. She made a winning debut back in March when she was a hot-thing. After two more sprint victories she stepped up in company and even though she was fifth it was a fast closing run-out-of-racetrack-fifth. More preparation and a longer distance was on her card next and she aced that test to earn her first Graded win. Her new speed badge last race, 95, and her further training and marurity could serve her very well on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pastures Stables brings a grey filly to the Breeders Bowl on Saturday. Tapinto (#12, 13-1) a daughter of I Am Invincible was making a name for herself sprinting including a 10-1 upset of the Grade 2 Iron Deck. They came right back to The Darley a Grade 1 at this 8.5 furlong distance. She ran evenly on the day showing she can get the distance just fine. She was third behind Lilly Bella and Quicktrap and she meets those rivals again Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An early BK Trial (Hot) race is a difficult assignment and one filly who can tell you about it is Maya Woulfe (#8, 13-1). She was defeated in two such trails early this season and it was clearly filled with some talented fillies. At that stage she didn\u2019t stack up. But boy has she found her running shows now. Bouncing out of the Trials with four wins and a second. Beerkeg Barn decided it was time for the acid test, the Grade 1 Walnut Tree. She didn\u2019t disappoint, rallying from far back to grab third behind Race to the Light and Difficult Beach who she meets again here. On breeding, Into Mischief from a Nureyev mare she fits the type who can keep improving. She\u2019s an interesting outsider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gowans has Public Knowledge (#1, 10-1), a Grade 3 winning daughter of Justify. She\u2019s been well thought of from the jump being from a Grade 3 winning mare, Public. She\u2019s never missed the board including a third place in the Iron Deck behind Tapinto and Difficult Beach. She got all the bread in her last start when running away with the Margarine. She jumped up to a 95 speed badge and it puts her right in the mix with this crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019ve mentioned Difficult Beach (#3, 13-1) a few times already. The daughter of All too Hard is one of two Australian breds in the field full of Kentucky blue blood. The wonderful bay filly from a Grade 2 winning mare The Fijian. This filly has speed to burn. Beach is 0-3 on dirt but those races were Graded tests in which she hit the board in all. Corza Racing sends this filly to the BB with clear intentions, catch her if you can. She ran a 92 speed badge last time out and clearly presents a target, but a swiftly moving one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Take a well-bred Tapit filly treat her right, space her races and watch her put up the dubs! Easy game eh! So easy I\u2019m writing about her and not saddling her. Seriously though, Tap Your Babe (#9, 12-1) from FDLLodge is a dream filly. She\u2019s a perfect 5-for-5 while doing it with flair and style. Just doing enough to keep everyone behind her but still looking dominant. The grey filly is a two-time Grade 1 winner sprinting and will enter the BB looking to cap a Championship season. Babe\u2019s mare could go long in good company at a young age which bodes well for her this Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tenpoint Racing brings Pistols in the Air (#2, 13-1) to the BB with a 3-race win streak. After a dissappointing Stakes try in May. The connections regrouped sent her a bit longer and she responded by going through her conditions easily. Last time out, the Grade 1 Frickazee, she stormed home looking like a world-beater. She took a new speed badge that day with a 91 and has the look of a filly who will love the added half furlong Saturday. In the market, her 13\u2019s offer tremendous value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another filly who will love the distance on Saturday is Beerkeg\u2019s Lilly Bella (#4, 10-1). She tried but fell short every time sprinting. After a nice summer off to mature she came back to win her first try at a route. It was a terrific jumping off point as she charged through the lane last time out in the Grade 1 Darley beating a talented duo in Quicktap and Tapinto. The daughter of Curlin has only scratched the surface of what she can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stockswami Stables, Mischief My Lady (#7, 13-1) brings solid form to the party on Saturday. After a big win in the slop going 7 panels in July. The bay filly was pointed to Graded races and she proved she was worthy. First in the Chicago Lassie she was third behind Lana Sharapova. Next up in New York, the Grade 1 Frickazee, her rallying was sustained much better but she found Pistols in the Air just to strong for her. She\u2019s clearly going in the right direction as her back-to-back 90 speed figures suggest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tees Racing has a filly by Nyquist, Quicktap (#6, 9-1) coming into the BB off a near miss in the Grade 1 Darley. After winning back-to-back races she looked like a very tough customer in the Darley. She didn\u2019t let her backers down. She was one of two fillies who motored through the lane but she was beaten on the day by Lilly Bella. Undaunted she\u2019s been trained and prepped for the big race Saturday looking to turn the tables on her rival.
