<\/strong>The Canadian flag waves proudly over Woodbine Raceway as we celebrate Canada’s 156th Birthday with the running of the 3rd Annual Elite Racing Club Canada Cup. A star studded crowd including Jim Carey and Ryan Reynolds has shown up at the track and Toronto Raptors Star and Subway Sub Enthusiast Scottie Barnes is on hand for the call of “Riders Up!”. Justin Bieber will sing Oh Canada and once again Molson Canadian is on tap for all.

Eight older fillies and mares have enjoyed a steady diet of Poutine and Maple Syrup all week and they are raring to go. They will run seven furlongs on the dirt in what should be a tightly contested battle for the winner\u2019s share of the $100,000 purse. The victorious owner\/trainer will also pick up the winner\u2019s share of the stakes bonus points the club uses for its various awards.

jbcri’s SUPERB GOAL<\/strong> took home last year’s race that featured fillies and mares on the turf. Who will be posing in the Winner’s Circle this year?

Out of the mapleleafdowns barn (dunn)<\/strong> is this four year old HENNY HUGHES<\/strong> filly out of the Sim Mare RIVERBOAT CASINO<\/strong>. She comes in off a runner-up finish last time out when she ran 104 speed at an Allowance Race in Minnesota. She has had success at this distance in the past and will look to get out front early and hold off this strong field of eight.

Out of the dontbetonme11 barn <\/strong>is this four year old VIOLENCE<\/strong> Mare out of the Sim Mare CHARGING THE VOID<\/strong>. She has finished in the money in eighteen of her twenty-five career starts and comes in off a runner-up finish at an Allowance Race in Florida where she blazed career best 107 speed. Not sure if she will like the distance here but certainly has the speed to compete with this group.

Out of the whaddyaat barn (newfy) <\/strong>is this five year old scratch bred MENDELSSOHN (x FORTY NINER x MEDAGLIA D’ORO)<\/strong> mare. <\/strong>She made her first start for the ownership group five weeks ago and rewarded them with a win when she ran 102 speed at an Allowance Race at this same distance. That was the fourth straight start where she has finished on the board and I think she should have a good chance of continuing that streak here as she competes out of the two hole.

Out of the amir1692 barn<\/strong> is this five year old scratch bred STREET SENSE (x PULPIT x EL PRADO)<\/strong>mare. <\/strong>She has finished in the money in fourteen of her twenty-four career starts including seven wins with two Stakes wins. She comes in off a runner-up finish at the “Cuffaro Cat G Dirt Mare Dash” where she blazed 109 speed at this same distance and was beaten by harrylan’s PIONEEROF SUNDAY. <\/strong>She will likely look to run mid pack in the early going before kicking it into high gear as they come down the stretch and should have a good chance of finding a spot on the board.

Out of the rac11 barn (summerset) <\/strong>is this five year old ANIMAL KINGDOM <\/strong> mare out of the Sim Mare GEISHA CITY<\/strong>. She comes in well rested with her last start being a 108 speed runner-up finish at an eight and a half furlong Allowance Race at the end of May. She was seventh at the “ERC HO HO WHOA” but has a win and two runner-ups since then and has had some impressive speed numbers so I think we should see a good race from her here.

Out of the harrylanlow25 barn <\/strong>is this six year old scratch bred PIONEER OF THE NILE (x SUNDAY SILENCE x FAPPIANO)<\/strong> Mare.<\/strong> She comes in off an impressive 112 speed win last time out at the “Cuffaro Cat G Dirt Mare Dash”. Two back she opened the year with a runner-up at the  “Miss Venezuela Dirt Mare Sprint” with both races having come at this same distance. She will be one of the favorites here and her big speed numbers may be tough to beat.

Out of the chino2 barn <\/strong>is this five year old scratch bred FRENCH DEPUTY (x CRAFTY PROSPECTOR x STORM BIRD)<\/strong> Mare. She is making just the eight start of her career after being claimed by the ownership group when she was a four year old. Her last three starts have resulted in a seventh and two sixth place finishes. Prior to that she had three wins and a third place finish. I don’t think she will be a factor here against this competitive group.
