The youngsters hit the dirt for 6 furlongs and a decently sized 55k in prize money. Two residents take a shot at the
Residency contest in which they win a prize horse should they come in first.

1. FOREST BALAD(KY) – stalmanu – D Sanford – 5/1

Wellington Stables of the Benelux residency visits our finr track with this son of Forest Wildcat. This will be his 5th career
race and first in Minnesota. Starting his career close to home in Europe, Forest Balad headed to Nevada last time out for the
Grade 2 High Rollers. That bet turned out bad as he finished 9th over 7 lengths behind over the same distance as today. With two year olds it is hard to tell whether today’s group is or is not up to par with the competition in Nevada, but Wellington Stables is betting that the step
back into ungraded company will work. He has 1 win over 4 races, that being his Maiden in New South Wales in April. Sanford gets the ride and he has been having a solid meet this year.

2. TWIN TIE(KY) – biogod – O Man – 18/1

Biogod an unassociated stable which belongs to Pastures of Green has a son of Rockport Harbor who won his first race last out in Michigan.
That was Twin Tie’s first try on the dirt and he ran a respectable 70 speed over 5.5 furlongs to accomplish the win. It is definitely a sharp class
jump here, and he’s trying to do it over an unfamiliar track. Old Man gets the mount, and his stats have dropped sharply since his rookie year here in Minny.

3. TOPSHELF SLEW(AUS) – jrodneyg – N Ballard – 10/1

Minnesota Resident jrodneyg send this son of Couvoisier from his flagship stable. Topshelf Slew won his first time out in South Dakota over 5.5 furlongs posting a nice 75 speed number. This seems like an ambitious move for jrodneyg, but his familiarity with this race course has probably been instilled in his horse. Ballard gets the ride.It is a little disappointing to this writer that a resident rider isn’t on board, but Ballard is a solid 9.7% rider though. At 10/1 odds, it may be worth taking a flier that this one will make the necessary improvements to make an impact here.On an interesting note, this is Couvoisier’s only runner in the sim and he’s 1 for 1.

4. MACH OF A PRIME(IRE) -horsequest – S Foster – 5/1

A son of Primary, who has won 2 of 3 races on teh dirt. His only defeat came in the graded Television Stakes in Kentucky. Last out
in Georgia Mach of a Prime won an allowance over 6 furlongs. Horsequest is an affiliate of eirann from the Ireland Residency. Rumors have been that some locals have been trying to prove to eirann that the Johnno Pub serves better Guinness than any in Ireland, but those have not been substantiated. Primary is from the Giant’s Causeway line but has not sired a stakes winner yet.

5. EASY AS PIE(AUS) – danno1 – K Bowen – 3/1

RASH invades Minnesota with this son of Octagonal. Easy as Pie won first out in Rhode Island over 5 furlongs posting a 70 speed
number. In that race he sat just off the lead and then took over at the third call. Danno1 of the Danno3 group, has a 13% strike rate so
I must give the benefit of the doubt even though there is doubt. At 3/1 my money is better spent elsewhere, but Bowen is a good rider and knows how to get the best out of his rides. Never count out a colt that Bowen likes. That Storm Cat listing as the DS is always scary too.

6. DIXIEPARK RATS(KY) – drdj – M Douglass – 7/1

Darnath, everyone’s favorite rat, takes his chance with this son of Dixieland Band (wrote that even before i checked to see
if i was right 🙂 ) He won his debut in Rhode Island at 5 furlongs but posted only a 65 speed number which lags behind what some
of these others have already done, thus the 7/1 odds. I can only imagine that he’ll like the extra ground, but the race still may
be a little ambitious. Sometimes a chance at a prize gets to even the best of us like darnath, huh. I’m glad to see I am not the only one.

7. BRAVE ULYSSES(KY) -clapton – K Friar – 2/1

Today’s favorite comes from Socalslew’s clapton stable as a representative of Pastures of Green. He has the services of the track’s best jockey, K. Friar. This son of Seeking the Best won his debut in the Freshman Sire Series held in Vermont. additionally he won another Freshman Sires series race at this distance in May. A solid 3rd in Nevada in the High Rollers grade 2 puts this colt with the best history of the eight entered. His best race should beat this field handily but he’s never been to Minnesota and the land where anything can happen.

8. M IS FOR MARK(KY) -cradley – B Craver-7/1

Cradley is from the Oshtay Stable group, who is not a member of any residency. Recruitment material has been sent to his stable to promote the Minnesota residency. This veteran of 9600 + races has an impressive 11% winning percentage and is in the money over one third of the time. Craver gets the mount today, an 18 tear vet with a lifetime 10% winning percentage. This colt out of sire Aldebaran takes his second stakes chance as he moves up in distance again, like he has in every race. Last time was a 4th place finish in California over 5.5. He has improved at each distance step and any improvement here puts M is for Mark right in the think of things.

Chuck’s Picks
Win: BRAVE ULYSSES(KY) Place: DIXIEPARK RATS(KY) Show: M IS FOR MARK(KY)

This week in Minnesota: With Smackdown now behind us attention has swung to the Equinics team selection. Tseals and Marmac lead there respective divisions in the Minny Cup Contest and Chuckrock holds a slim lead over Marmac and Cothill in Mountains of Money. Of course the big event, the Claiming Championships that are on today’s card, is expected to bring larger than normal crowds to this very track.

Claiming Jewel – The Steel Pony: Winner to receive Theo Come Home: BEING MISSED(GB) from tobiman is the favorite at 5/1 but at least a half dozen horses have a good chance here. I’d box POPPING BUBBLES(KY) of swale and AGITATED of stoneage (which is apparantly a new Minnesota resident stable) for a pricey exacta.

Claiming Jewel – The Ruby: Winner to receive Bleach: EL COMMANDANT from rappatomac is a 4/1favorite and rightfully so. I’d put him on top of the following three for some exotic bets: ZYKHANI(IRE) radioman3 , YOU SCHMOOZ U LOSE(IRE) gsxr600, and VERTICAL DROP(GB) trotter201 .

Claiming Jewel – The Dash: Winner to receive Bag of Bricks. A tough battle in the middle between Exhibit A and Crafty Dixie but watch outside for long shot Crafty Sooner.

Claiming Jewel – The Spiked Heels: Winner to recieve Teddy’s Vision. These fillies are pretty evenly matched acros the board with few exceptions. Hollywood Hero and Garrison State are both getting money and ANABAA PROSPECT(KY) is certainly a risk worth backing.

Claiming Jewel – The Fast Mover: Winner to receive Maglia. Severe longshot MR. INSPECTOR T comes from a veteran barn, must respect and worth a flier. Luke warm favorites I’M ALL SPEED and Steady Eddie are both using resident jockeys and should have significant backing from the crowd.

Claiming Jewel – The Diamond: Winner to receive Tabsaco Top. The only race I was able to draw into, with SCOREBOARD GO(KY) will likely be dominated by either Edge of Reality or Punch Bowl.

Claiming Jewel – The Crown: Winner to receive Tabasco Squared. Trotter has another good chance with CHANGESNATTITUDE, but I’ll try and beat him with either LAND OF DREAMS(CA) or THE SHADOW KNOWS.

[2

post-6277","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
