When Given saw that the Irish 1000 Guineas was not represented on the SIM schedule he came through in a big way and purchased the race with his own credits. Our modern day SIM philanthropist not only bought the race but he has a good chance to take home the trophy he paid for as his 2-1 favorite Alayaya looks primed to run back up to the massive number she posted last out. The three year old lady by super sire A.P. Indy posted a freakish 108 last out in winning the Grade 1 Cremation Stakes over the same mile distance as today’s race. Eight fillies lineup seeking to steal her thunder and prevent Alayaya from capturing the hardware her owner looks to add to her growing trophy case.

1. Takhisis representing the SPQR Galileo/War Emblem Joint venture has drawn the rail and is the 7-1 choice in today’s affair. She is an accomplished runner winning 50% of her 10 lifetime races and finishing ITM in 70% of them. Probably the most telling stat is that she is 2 for 2 lifetime on the grass including a lifetime best speed figure of 102 posted in her last race which was an allowance. Like the favorite in today’s race, Takhisis is by A.P. Indy (with an Alydar X Kris S. backend) and looks primed to run a big race. She is a stakes winner and twice graded placed and looks to have a beautiful future running on the grass. She has an early to presser type running style depending on the day so look for her close to the lead if not on it.

2. XTRA PLATINUM representing ejdstable is by Bernardini who is one of A.P. Indy’s top sons. After two unsuccessful dirt races to start her career she has taken a love to the grass and has been ITM in 50% of her 12 lifetime starts including 2 wins. Two of her last three runs have been at 12 furlongs so her connections hope those preps have served her well for her mile long adventure in today’s affair. Her lifetime best speed figure of 100 was posted 2 races back and she has shown excellent ability over the soft turf. With today’s race listed as firm she has no edge there but her running style of coming from off the pace might be an advantage in today’s race that contains a lot of early speed. Odds-makers have tagged her at 7-1.

3. ALAYAYA showed amazing closing kick in her last race out where she came from 11 ¼ lengths back to win by 2 going away, posting a massive 108 in the process. She has already earned over 400k on the grass in 5 lifetime races on that surface and has the look of a superstar in the making. A win in this race would likely have ALAYAYA in a rock paper scissors contest with fellow given trained superstar Otto Tribute for the coveted Equinics nomination.

4. AL GODON DE AZUCAR, which means cotton candy in Spanish is resides in the otto stable which is run by haack who support’s the Hispano Parlante residency. AL GODON DE AZUCAR continues our A.P. Indy connection in this race as his grandson Tapit is the sire of this filly. She is 9-7-2-0 on the grass never having finished out of the money on her favorite surface and amassing 161k in lifetime earnings in the process. She can blaze it out on the frontend or hang just off the pace so look for our 11-1 lady to be near the lead. She has done her best running at 8 furlongs and looks to improve on her lifetime best speed figure of 97 which she will need to do to hang with this crew.

5. REDOUTE’S ROCKS as the name adequately captures is by super Aussie sire Redoute’s Choice (with a Thunder Gulch X Danzig backend). Trained by Jockeymax, this gal is a pure frontrunner so look for her to come out blazing and dare the other ladies to keep up. She posted a lifetime best 101 speed figure last out at a mile in the Fantastic Ollie Handicap and that makes her a strong contender if left unchecked on the lead. Jockey M Russell who sports a 11.1% lifetime win percentage but is connecting at just a 5.5% rate this year will need to get her out fast and hope to hold off what is sure to be a furious close by a few of the top contenders. She earns her way into today’s graded race with stakes wins in just 8 career races. She has the foundation and could be worth a play at 9-1.

6. STOOPED by Theatrical really found her direction on the grass after four lackluster dirt races to open her career. She is 6-4-0-1 on the turf including an allowance win last out over 8.5 furlongs where she posted a lifetime best 98 speed figure. She comes from off the pace as do a few of the other big runners so owner brundlefly hopes she gets the jump on the competition and has enough in the tank to hold them off at the end. She is the first starter for her mare Sadfly’s Desert and looks to put her on the map with a win here.

7. DEERSTANDING by Strong Hope is heavily respected by the odds-makers and has been assigned 9-2 odds. Breeding wise she is a 4X5 to dam Sex Appeal so it is no wonder she has developed into one sexy beast. She is 8-6-1-1 on the grass which is a perfect 100% ITM for my mathematically challenged readers. Her last two race speed figures of 104/105 respectively make her a strong contender in today’s race and she might just be the deepest of all deep closers in this race. Trainer robsscoobi has a real consistent filly here and looks to be a strong lock to finish in the money and can not be ignored by those that prefer exotic wagering.

8. GUINEAS TOAST by Kingmambo is both the greenest and the longest shot (13-1) in today’s field. Trained by yours truly she has just 2 lifetime races and would qualify for an ALW N3L. She has been winning by impressive margins but has been thrown to the wolves in today’s contest primarily due to her name and her trainer believing in fate. She would need a small miracle and a huge improvement of her lifetime best 97 speed figure to grab a share in this classic.

9. CIRCUS PLUME wins the award for the most creative breed in today’s contest (good job dupre). Her pedigree is Piccolo X Rousillon X Upper Nile. Besides creative breeding, she is also the veteran in today’s contest have gone to post a total of 19 times in her career. Her lifetime best of 102 four back at 8 furlongs is enough to grab a share of this one as the odds-makers have noted by making her a 4-1 pick. She seems to be recovering from her well distanced defeat in the 1000 Guineas to Otto Tribute, and ran a nice 99 in finishing 2nd in a stakes last out. She must be respected but something about her recent form has me cautious.

Prediction:
It is hard to pick against ALAYAYA as this race was literally made for her. There is enough talent in this race to trip up that design; however and my first choice to do that would be Redoute’s Rocks who I could see taking this affair wire to wire. I look for Takhisis to run big as well and pick up a major share. No matter who wins I plan to sip on a GUINESS during the race.
