Well this Grade 2 marathon looks set to be a keenly contested race with a number of chances and a number of different racing styles in the midst. This writer is certainly looking forward to bearing witness to the toughest of equine tests in the sim, the almighty 16F Marathon.<\/P>

Very lightly raced 5 year old having just 16 starts but he’s managed to greet the judge in first place on 6 occasions and looks to be in top form. Bit disappointing last time when well beaten in the Triple Secret Special Stakes over 14F but it may pay to forget that run as his previous form suggests he’s much better than that. Untried over 16F but has a come from behind victory over 14F to his credit when he ran on strongly and won hard held by 4 lengths in The Prospector Dancing Handicap posting a 108 SP. Facing a bit of a class rise today but is capable of a big run and could cause an upset at odds. Each-way.<\/P>

Yet to have any Stakes Points and facing a huge distance rise today makes this guy a bit of a mystery runner. Theres no questions he is in the best form of his career having posted SP’s of 100+ at his last 7 starts, the best being a 108 twice in Allowances with a 1st<\/SUP> and 2nd <\/SUP>finish respectively. Nice run last time when beaten 2 \u00be lengths in The G3 Cubic Zirconia Path Stakes over 8.5 when he made up ground towards the end of the race. Very hard to rate this horse as his last 2 starts have been over 8.5F and the furthest hes gone is 11F in a MSW on the turf. Certainly his breeding suggests he is capable of getting the trip but I think the jury’s out on this one until he shows something over the marathon. Prefer to see.<\/P>

Well beaten last start in The Green Tank Stakes but will appreciate the return to the dirt today and is proven over the 16F having won the Amigos Rumba Handicap over 16F posting a 100 SP. Backing up today with just 2 weeks since his last run and will need a personal best to trouble some of these, however, there aren’t many in this race that have run over the marathon before so that may go in his favor. His pattern of racing suggests he’ll settle a little worse than midfield and put himself into the race at about the 4F as he attempts to thunder to victory. Experience counts for a lot but I think place claims best for this one.<\/P>

With an almost 50% winning strike rate from 21 starts, this guy has been very well placed by trainer cwhisper. Looks to have found his niche in his last 2 races, enjoying the marathon 16F when winning the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series Stakes and The Cat o’ Ninetales Cap impressively. Yet to post a SP over 106 but I think its fair to say that he’s in peak form and a high SP is definitely on the cards today. It will be interesting to see if he tries to take on DESTINY STRIKES and engage in a speed duel for the lead or whether he drops in behind for the trail. Make no mistake, cwhisper will have this guy kicking down the barn door and primed for a huge run today. Strong chance.<\/P>

Runner-up to JOLLY DM HOUSE 3 starts ago in the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series Stakes when beaten a length but making up many lengths in the closing stages. In that race the 1st<\/SUP> and 2nd<\/SUP> placed horses were a class above their rivals streeting the rest of the field with over 16 lengths back to 3rd<\/SUP>. This guy has a racing style which may be suited to this race as there promises to be a lot of pace in the early stages and he likes to settle well back in the field and make his run at the business end of proceedings. If there is one thing that plagues this fellow it would have to be inconsistency. He can pull out a blinder of a run on occasions and at other times he can look far from impressive. Maybe with the way this race is going to be run, conditions may suit and he’ll bring his A game today. Good each-way chance.<\/P>

Dour stayer who is a model of consistency having only been unplaced 4 times in his 21 start career. This guy is up in class a fair bit today but this can probably be attributed to the lack of graded marathon races of late. Loves the 16F having won an open Allowance last time by an impressive 5 \u00bc lengths posting a 102 SP and his only other 16F run resulted in a 2nd<\/SUP> in The NUMBERONESON Memorial Stakes race where he made up many lengths in the straight. He is another who should be suited by the tempo of the race and, as his racing style suggests, he’ll be strong at the end and could be the one to swoop past the leaders if theres a speed duel. With the consistency this guy shows coupled with his natural staying ability and his liking for the 16F, he represents a good each-way chance.<\/P>

Beautifully bred 4 year old colt in the absolute peak of his career. Decided at an early age that turf was not his forte by running an unimpressive first up last in a MSW posting a SP of 52. However after being tried on the dirt, relished the conditions and showed marked improvement. It was, however, to be his 7th<\/SUP> lifetime start until he saluted the judge in 1st<\/SUP> place, this win coming when trying a distance of 9.5F. He then seemed to like the idea of the spoils associated with winning and went on to record 5 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from his next 13 starts. This fellows last five runs have all posted 100+ SP’s with the highest being a 115 when taking out the South Australian Cup G1 over 16F with a bold display of front-running prowess. Loves the long routes and could stay all day. Likely leader in this event and will be extremely hard to run down.<\/P>

Interesting runner. Has passed through the hands of many trainers and at one stage was claimed with a tag of just $2500. He was acquired by trainer austrainer in December of ’06 and was immediately successful in winning a $7500 Starter Allowance posting a career high SP of 96. Strung together 4 impressive victories over 10 & 11F followed up by a close up 4th<\/SUP> in his Stakes debut then went on to win 2 Stakes races, The Oregon Trail Stakes and the Prince Stick Challenge where he posted another career high SP of 107. His form tapered off a little after that but still had some nice placings in good Stakes races and returned to the winners list last time out with a win in an ALW Nwn1 over 12F. Trying the marathon 16F for the first time today but his pattern of racing suggest he should get the trip. Should be running on.<\/P>

Forget last run when well beaten on unsuitable surface in The Gold Class G1. Previous form excellent with some great runs in top company including a barnstorming finish when came from well back to grab second in the G1 South Australian Cup over 16F. Proven over the marathon trip having raced 3 times resulting in 2 2nds where he ran on strongly in the closing stages. He’s racing in peak form and will be delighted with the return to his favored surface today. This guy settles well back in his races but he possesses an amazing turn of foot and when asked to go he responds favorably. Look for him to be storming home at the finish. Excellent chance.<\/P>

This 5 year old stayer is making his 16F debut today but if recent form is anything to go by, he will relish it. Bit of a late bloomer having not raced as a 2 or 3 year old, he certainly was worth the wait. Excellent run last start in The Walther Luck Stakes when well back on the home turn and made up a huge amount of ground to grab second posting a SP of 103 and the way he was finishing that race off suggests that todays trip will be ideal. Taking on a couple of smart types here but having not been tried at 16F he may very well cause an upset and you can be certain that he’ll be steaming home down the grandstand rail in the straight and may finish over the top of them. Winning Chance.<\/P>

In summary its hard to see anything catching the likely leader and Grade 1 winner DESTINY STRIKES. I suspect he will get his way and be allowed to roll to the front where he can dictate the race to suit.<\/P>

I think JOLLY DM HOUSE will relish today’s conditions and will get a cozy trip behind the leader and could very well test DESTINY STRIKES in the closing stages.<\/P>

I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on WARRIOR’S RELIC, the steep rise in distance today intrigues me and it will be interesting to see how he handles it but he is in top form.<\/P>
